I think you can't travel trough time, the only thing that could be possible is freezing yourself and then get back awake, you are in the future without getting older, but you cant go back

but they also said that it will kill you (not the freezing), but when you get awake, everything will be so different you will shock and die

Ah, that is why you can't go faster than the speed of light. I always knew a little bit of it and never got the whole explanation. Thanks a lot miller.

No problem. :D

In theory, time travel would be possible if one were to travel at light speed, or faster than light speed. But this is also impossible, in theory. We may one day figure something out, but as of now, and for the next century probably, it's impossible.

Yea i have that theory in a science book. It says that if we could go the speed of light we would alter into light and not age. There are a few issues though 1: we can't go the speed of light 2: we can't stop being light if we did 3: it would still be like years to our family wile seconds to us. they still age 4: no ship or metal can stand the heat the friction would produce 5: we wouldn't be able to predict if a meator were in our path light years ahead.

Yeah, even if light travel is possible, no one knows how, and no one will, for a loooooooong time.

I'm not really sure about this subject, but until someone does it, I don't think it's possible to go back in time and physically walk up to a dinosaur. Or something like that..

What would be cool though is if someone made a telescope soooo strong and sent it out SOOOOOO far that you could zoom in and watch the earth being created.

I'm pretty sure the photons reaching your telescope would not be those from when Earth was created.

That is, ignoring the whole problem that there's a massive object shining right next to the Earth so that you can't even see it.

Cool idea though. Too bad Neo is a downer.

I prefer to think of it as "brutally realistic."

Time travel is not only possible it is currently very nearly in our grasp with our new found ability to create Bose-EinstineCondensate. Computers hate me so I can't put a link but you can go to Wikipedia and enter Bose Einstine Condensate. Anyway the point is that time is relative. Since Bose-Einstine is cold enough that its particles don't move any more (or it's so close it doesn't matter) time has no effect on it and, that being the case, it would insulate against time. There fore you could make a capsule (well insulated mind you) put a person in it and surround it with a cloud of Bose-Einstine and a week, month, or even year later you could disperse the cloud and inside the capsule you would find a time traveler with no sensation of ever having traveled at all because the time in the capsule would not be relative to any point beyond the time he was surrounded by the cloud. There are some obvious drawbacks to this, it would be very complicated and expensive to maintain a cloud of Bose-Einstine around a person. The person would be unable to travel beyond mans existance, and after you travel fifty years into the future and realize how much better life was back when you didn't have to deal with HyperPlaugebola XZ there is no way to go back.

A Bose-Einstein Condensate doesn't have particles that don't move. If they couldn't move, you could tell exactly where they were and how fast they were going, something prohibited by quantum mechanics. The idea Bose and Einstein proposed was that at a close enough point to absolute zero, where you would expect subatomic particles to slow down to almost complete stillness, instead they would cease being particles and 'congeal' into a bizarre new form of matter, preventing you from determining where they were and how fast they were going. As it turns out, they were correct.

Bose-Einstein Condensate, while it exists, is still temporally affected. It does not cease to be affected by the passage of time. If it was unaffected, the stuff would never go away. But you can make it go away, simply by heating it (a process requiring the passage of time, like all processes).

If something stops moving who is to say it is affected by time at all, if you "freeze" an atom what can we say it ages relative to? I suppose that there are some flaws in my theory (i.e. that the center of the cloud of Bose-einstine would disapear) but it is interesting to try to think of other methods of time travel aside from the boring speed of light theory.

But that's the problem with your idea: you can't freeze particles so they stop moving. When they get close enough to absolute zero, they cease being particles and become an amorphous Bose-Einstein condensate.

Is that Bose-Einstein thing a form of a substance when it becomes very cold and all the atoms come together or am I thinking of something different?
Dropped the atomic bomb let them know that it's real
