Yeah, that is it exactly. And just when I had begun to explor this exciting new concept with the light of my imagination Necronomicon shoots it down.

That's logic for you. Stuff as to make at least a little sense for it to exist or happen. |

It doesn't necessarily have to make sense. It only has to be within the laws of physics. After all, does it make sense to you that light travels at a certain speed away from you regardless of how fast you move? And so on and so forth... |

As far as keeping it simple goes, you can travel forward in time but not back. By travelling at any speed you will effectively travel through time. Less time will have passed for you than on Earth. The longer and faster you go the more time will pass on Earth compared to how long you spend in your vehicle. The most effective way to do this is to travel away from the Earth in a space ship and come back again. Travelling for two years (one coming, one going) at 0.99c will result in 20 years passing on Earth. You have effectively travelled 18 years into the future. However, this is not what most people have come to expect from time travel. The idea of spending time to travel in time is obviously a waste. It is similar to paying a man $1 for him to give you $5, the difficulty being you have to find the initial $1 before you can make the $4 gain. Now if you have a lot of $1s around then it won't worry you, but most people are turned off at the proposal. While we can travel through time instantaneously and even back in time that requires moving ourselves through more dimensions than most care to acknowledge. Now for the travelling faster than light issue. Nothing will happen, because you can't do it. There is no point in saying "what if we went faster" because we CAN NOT DO IT. Before anybody responds I would like to point out one final fact, a fundamental law of the universe, we cannot travel at else faster than the speed of light. Reaching the speed of light won't kill you, it won't make time stop, it won't make base metal turn to gold, because IT CAN NOT HAPPEN! And don't play the "they used to say you couldn't get to the moon but we did it" card. The reason they said you couldn't do it is because they weren't able to within the scope of their technology/religion/whatever. The reason I say we can't do it is because to do otherwise would break fundamental aspects of physics, which have been shown as true as they apply universally. |

Well, unless they aren't true. I wouldn't be so bold as to claim humanity has a perfect grasp on understanding the universe. And by the way, pie is delicious: I applaud your imagination. Not too often do people come up with original ideas. |

I don't have a link at the moment, but it is currently being theorized that time is not derivable. That is if you were to graph time, it would not be a straight line, but have cusps like frames in a movie. Now everyone knows you can't go the speed of light, the laws of physics won't allow it, but under this theory, you could approach the speed of light and then skip it, or hop the cusp. Essentially, time would have to not be a continuum and then you need to find a way to skip a "frame" in time. Now I'm not too certain moving faster than the speed of light will actually allow you travel back in physical world, but you can bet time won't be normal! |

http://www.tenthdimension.com/flash2.php The above link explains the dimensions and how we can use them to travel through time. Just click "Imagining the Ten Dimensions" on the left hand side. |

Cool article but the "nothing with mass can go faster than light" idea still stands. We have also made light travel backwards. http://z13.invisionfree.com/Exit_Mundi_For...p?showtopic=396 http://www.livescience.com/technology/0605...t_backward.html |

If you were to travel at light speed for a minute, the earth would have aged 60 years. It is technically possible. However, you can not travel into the past. In fact, you're not really traveling into the future, you're actually just dialating time, by slowing time for yourself for a bit. Light speed literally rips time. Time is a thing and not what we perceive it to be. |

Why would anyone want to go to the future? Things are bad now on earth, it can't be much better in 100 years. Think of all the president's we'll have in that time to screw things up. |
