If you did things right (ans I'm not saying you didn't) you would have a considerable fortune right now.  People in auto accidents where they are not at fault usually make about 4-5X their hospital bills in settlements.  I would actually have a big grin on my face in some ass-hat rear ended me and it was his fault.

How is that fair? People make accidents. There's no reason to make them pay more then they have to. What if you were in their shoes?

The person at fault wouldn't pay, the insurance company would. And that is the point of insurance companies, right?

ohhhhhhh

okay. well, the point of insurance is to reimburse you for repairs, not to make you rich, if i'm not mistaken.
This is it
This is the countdown
To extinction

When people are awarded multi-million dollar settlements, how much does the premium of the person at fault go up?

I'm assuming that it would depend on the accident. I would say a lot. I know a simple speeding violation reported to the BMV will raise your insrance premiums dramaticlly. So I can imagine that a multi-million law suit would probably mean ,for me anyways, calling a taxi when I need to travel.

Those people are dropped like hot rocks.

When you strike someone with your car, and injure or even kill them, most insurance premiums are raised less than when you get a ticket going 15 miles or less over the speed limit. They do that because, speeding tickets happen more often.
