Do you remember what you were doing when you found out 9/11 happened?

Waking up, and assuming it would be a normal day just like 9/10, 9/9, and the entire year preceeding it.

Oh, you meant the actual terrorist (not a word, Jim) attacks on 9/11? I get so confused when people simply say the date. It'd be like saying 12/7*. They need to put a name to this so people will stop rattling off the date.

In answer to your actual question, I was in a dual credit Gen. Biology class. Heard it on the radio. Didn't see footage till later.

I was in 3rd grade putting away books. I saw a ton of kids being signed out and i'm like "where is everyone going?" Then my dad came and picked my up and i asked him why. He said we were at war. I thought he was kidding at the time. How wrong i was.

Probably on the way to school in 6th grade. I first heard about it in my 2nd Pd. Reading class from my friend, who thought that a plane had flown into "Sears Tower in New York". I told him Sears Tower was in Chicago, so we both agreed it was Sears Tower in Chicago that was hit.

Do you remember what you were doing when you found out 9/11 happened?

i woke up, got ready for school and decided to check one of the forums i frequented before i went to catch the bus... i saw a few mentions in it, but put it in the back of my mind like i do with all natural or man-made disasters.. when i got to school we basically spent the whole day talking about it and such...

I was in 6th grade, I heard about it at school, but all I heard was a plane hit a building so just assumed it was some dumbass flying a Cessna.

When I got home from school I watched CNN all night and ate chocolate pudding (seriously I remember this).

Frankly I am tired of hearing about 911. Does anybody really care anymore, let's talk about Iraq or Darfur.

Every program has a tribute to 9/11 and it is getting a little annoying.

I was in 8th grade english class when someone walked into the room and started whispering to our teacher. Then the teacher told us someone bombed the World Trade Centers. I didn't really think much about it for the rest of the day (on a serious term, we talked about it to get out of class) because I didn't really understand it at the time.

Half my grade was at a camp in the middle of no where when 9/11 happened and they had to spend 2 days thinking that the US was getting bombed while being stuck at a campsite. I was really glad I was the second group to go and not with them.

I have to agree that it's about time we moved on. We've had 5 years to realize that we aren't invincible and there are perfectly good reasons for foreigners to hate America (hint: It's not our freedoms!). If we haven't used 9/11 for some introspection already, then it's about time we ignorantly stumble on to the next hint.

I wasn't in the US.

Where were you? Was there an immediate reaction?

I was in school, in a Poly Sci class and a news crew came to my classroom - they asked if anyone had anything to say, I said yes and was on TV that night...ah...the exploitaition of an American tragedy for personal gain....

We havent' had time for introspection as an American public - we're too busy hearing how afraid we should be of another attack, how we were attacked for our freedoms, how it was Clinton's fault, how we should vote fucking republican or die... Once the Administration either leaves or eases off, and the patriotic right gives the rest of us room to breathe, we'll be able to have a serious and open dialogue about the reasons behind 9/11.

But if you have fewer freedoms, the terrorists won't hate you as much. Isn't that the idea behind the Patriot Acts?

Clinton's fault? What news do you watch? Everywhere I look people say it was all Bush's fault. Could it be that a tragedy costing 3000+ people their lives was politicized so parties could gain ground in the next few elections? Nah, what sort of heartless, self-absorbed, poll-driven bastiches would trivialize the deaths of thousands by making it a political talking point in their endless assault on the other party.

Oh, wait . . .

I was 9 and being driven home from school by my mum who said something like "a plane crashed into the World Trade Centre in New York" which I later found out to be a sky scraper. I don't remember much else except the feeling of dread the next day and seeing spectulation on tv on who did it and what would be done to bring them to justice.

That's how politics work. I'll admit the Bush administration did a good job on turning a tragedy into something that works for them. There is nothing wrong with that, that is just playing your cards. Going beyond that and using the tragedy where it shouldn't be mentioned for political gain is another story altogother but that is politics.
