Never ever, we're incapable of it. Although I guess you can't rule out genetic suppressants, but thats not fair. We build peace on war. |

Possible one day. However, not anytime soon. There're too many morons nursing centuries old grudges, and too many nations that think only of themselves without consideration for the world as a whole (Yes, I implied that it's not just the US. We're not the only nation with our heads firmly up our asses). Of course, something could always come up that brings it about. . . |

Yes, it is possible and I'm certain it will happen (though most likely not in our lifetimes). It has to be achieved through a big war though. The result of that war, or of the diplomacy afterwards, is the unification of nations into a single nation. Another somewhat hard task is the unification of the human race. So long as there are differances among people, people will hate and thus people will fight. |

I agree - our culture, prominent global culture is too far gone, to greedy, proud etc. We have to start over and, as it stands now, the only way to do that is through massive global war. Now, there's the rub - the era of great power-wars is over, ended with WWII. The idea that world peace can be achieved through diplomacy and social change is rather impossible, or at best quixotic- we have Human Nature to thank for that. |

How long is this peace supposed to last? A period of world peace could one day be possible, but i'd imagine it'd be a very short period. |

I think a Sino-American global war that escalates into a small-scale nuclear war would most probably bring about diplomatic change, and at best World Peace. |

World peace is inevitable. When war, nuclear winter, global warming, or whatever is going to do us off comes, there will be a time when only one human is alive, even if for a few moments. Then we have world peace. Lasting world peace? That's going to take a lot of worldwide attitude changes. Even a devastating world war will have militia groups rising up hungry for power. There'd be a great deal of chaos, especially in the major battlefields. It'll take a lot of cooperation to make sure that they're kept from causing trouble. |

Except for your first situation, it is impossible to have true world peace. We could have fake word peace but a utopia is impossible. The Greeks knew it even when the made the word. The stem U means not or something like that. Eu means good. Read Brave New World if you want a good book on a "utopia". |

Sir Thomas More is credited with coining the phrase with his 16th century book, Utopia, meant to be a pun on the greek words "ou" -"no" and "topos" - "place", which mean both "no place" and "good place" . It's not a bad book, I recomend checking it out if anyone's interested. He has slavery in his Utopia. |

I don't reckon we'll ever manage to stop fighting completely. There might be two scenarios where conventional juman war ends: 1) We are united as a race, against some outside force (alien invasion or the like). We'll not fight each other, but we will at least fight against something. 2) In the immediate aftermath of a massive disaster, nations fall apart, and wars are reduced to mob violence and gangs. There's simply no way that humanity would be able to stop fighting. We just haven't got to where we are without having war as second nature to us. |

Once it happens, peace will last forever. It won't be a short time, then it's not true peace. It's just a puase in disagreements. Peace means there are no disagreements. |

Developing a hive mind might be able to prevent people from disagreeing, but the closest semi-plausible thing I can think of is technological singularity. And then there's the issue of getting everyone to go along with it. So unfortunately, the biggest obstacle to world peace is the individual. If we all agreed on everything and worked selflessly towards the furtherment of the race, then we wouldn't have any reason to fight. |

World peace will come when all cultures blend together and everybodies skin is the same color and we all worship the same God. The we won't have anyhting to fight about. So for world peace's sake, go mate with somebody who is the complete opposite of you. |
