Everyone has heard of the conflict in Darfur but does anyone know about the situation in Congo?

Supposedly 4 million people have died and the UN declared the conflict "too big to handle". Is this just like Darfur when recieving little media attention or is there a different reason?

The situation is Africa. Millions of people have died over the last 50 years in hundreds of religious conflicts, civil wars, coups, you name it. Hundreds of millions including disease and famine. It's nothing new.

But Africa doesn't sell papers, and it doesn't get people watching.

And the fact that helping them doesn't help us in any way except for that warm fuzzy feeling no one is looking for anyways.

It's sad how the people overlook the sitiuation in Africa. The only reason people are caught up with Iraq is because they want to fire back on Bush.

There is only diamonds and gold in Africa, and they are hard to get at what with all the war lords, and slave trade. It would get messy, and the only reward is gold. pshh <_< Why waste soldiers there when we can spend them in Iraq, paying for oil. If the US got back into the slave trade, we might go someday.

I speak for everyone in the United States when I say, "Is Darfur that country by Iraq that has nuclear weapons?"
...Matt was no exception to this. When he stood in the street and noticed his chest started to really hurt again, he made the decision to look down. He screamed like a grown man would scream when that grown man sees a laser burning his chest, and that is like a little girl...

Africa will soon be remembered if China and America engage in a cold war. China is already gaining as much influence there as possible.
The developed world really needs to do something drastic with Africa it seems to be going backwards.
