"I was told when I grew up I could be anything I wanted: a fireman, a policeman, a doctor - even President, it seemed. And for the first time in the history of mankind, something new, called an astronaut. But like so many kids brought up on a steady diet of Westerns, I always wanted to be the avenging cowboy hero—that lone voice in the wilderness, fighting corruption and evil wherever I found it, and standing for freedom, truth and justice. And in my heart of hearts I still track the remnants of that dream wherever I go, in my endless ride into the setting sun."
- Bill Hicks (1961-1994)

Against my better judgment, I am an idealist. I cleave firm to the hope that humanity will better itself, in spite of all the evidence to the contrary. I have found that I cannot force myself to abandon this position, no matter how bad an idea I think it is.

I have my own moral code which I try my best to follow. Basically, it is do whatever you want as long as you don't hurt anyone else. There are major exceptions but I won't get into the details.

By applying it to the world around me, I will spread my morals in a non offensive way and will accept other peoples morals as long as they don't hurt anyone else.

I also hope that humanity will get better with ideals and ethics, but as Necro said, I doubt it.

I'm an idealist. I believe that despite how terrible the world seems, humans have the potential, the capacity to better itself.

I have my own moral code, but I'm not entirely clear in what you mean by applying it to the world around me.

The problem with this is that generally every one of the options in the poll contributes to my 'moral compass,' but I stuck with #1 because it was the most accurate under the terms of one choice only. I keep my moral code and follow it, and generally say something when someone does something I consider to be against it, so for example "why are you raping that person?"

vote I obey the laws of the land, to avoid the consequences of breaking them
this is mostly correct, but of course i DO have a moral code, such as "killing is bad", that i was raised to believe in... breaking the MAJOR "programmed morals" we are given as children is nearly impossible to do, and i don't really care to try... i guess you could say apathy is MY moral code...

also, i tend not to project my morals onto other people, the concept of "should" doesn't really interest me...

I am an Idealist, but I don't expect others to abide to most of the same ideals.

I only obey rules if they make logical sence or if I have no other choice. I apply my own moral code to rules that are just f**king stupid.

I obey rules that are just and shit on ones that aren't. My way of life is respect first and foremost, respect for my body and mind, then respect for my loved ones, respect for my habitat, respect for the critters that share my habitat, then finally respect for humans that earn it. If any of these aspects get disrespected, I lay down a superhighway of unholy revenge that only ceases when I am tired.

I pride myself in the ability to conceal my true objectives/ideals. Aside from myself, there isn't anyone who can interpret my motives in compliance with the future. Which is why I chose "I have my own moral code, and I keep it to myself".

On topic: Humans have far too many flaws, it overrides their innate potential. We're not consummate. Flaws are synonymous with humanity.

Pushing my own code on others never works, and so I stick to it myself. When that code comes into conflict with others, for example my having been arrested a while ago, I just have to conform whilst gently explaining why I am correct.
...Matt was no exception to this. When he stood in the street and noticed his chest started to really hurt again, he made the decision to look down. He screamed like a grown man would scream when that grown man sees a laser burning his chest, and that is like a little girl...
