Here kids are going out less however it is only because kids are going out more.... yeah...

In the next town over is a suburb known to my friends as Roseghetto [formally Rosemeadow]. The reason being it is a housing commission estate (homes for the homeless and unemployed), now these people are having children, needless to say unless the kids like playing meth-lab there isn't a lot for them to do at home.

So what we've got on our hands are a bunch of undisciplined kids roaming the streets. Now most parents can realise this is not the kind of environment they want their kids to be playing in, hence it is favourable for them to stay at home.

The best part is that nowadays kids can stay at home without any problem, everybody is happy... until their cars get broken into... but at least your kids are safe.

In defense of childhood, there is a group of around 8 or 10 kids that live around here, they're always outside on their bikes running around screaming, it's hard as hell not to hit them when your driving. The other day I saw a bunch of them on the roof of a house, pretty sure none of them fell though.

I think it really just depends on where you live. And in all honesty, I doubt most 'kids' have the patience to learn how to play a game properly. A good example of this from my childhood was Doom. Doom is quite possibly one of the easiest games ever invented, but I couldn't get past maybe level 2 as a kid, and lost interest.

When I grew up, (born 1889) children had to crawl into machines filled with smoke to remove objects blocking very sharp objects that were still turned on. Poor ventilation, little light, 16-hour working days, a penny a week for payment, no breaks.....

Seriously? Things are made too black and white for children, and definatly way too soft and cuddly.
Deep unspeakable suffering may well be called a baptism, a regeneration, the initiation into a new state.

God forbid that your child actually has to work for something. That is borderline child abuse.

Me too, in the sweat shop making jogging pants and hockey jerseys I've built in my basement.

Granted, whilst the kids may be predisposed to dislike work by their parents, it is still possible for them to be hard workers. It's not completely the parents' fault.

HHmmmm...my child hood...*goes to flash back then comes back*

My child hood was spent playing in the garden going on adventures in the ravine we had and trying to get the neihbor kids out of my yard (I have no idea why but for some reason it was an issue). Nature was the best thing ever to play with. I had a few video games like duck hunt mario bros (nes) harvest moon 64 and legend of zelda (n64) but that was it. Internet was a scary thing and useless to me back then...oh so young so innocent..anyway. The problem with todays youth is there isn't any nature theirs too mutch swearing infront of them, and there just generaly over stupid (I hit a kid over the head with a plank of wood once because he wouldn't stop swearing he was like 10 or somthing. Over swearing is a sign of direspect to me)

I hate the world of today. Kids would rather be mowing down Germans on their X-BOX 360 than getting physical activity. Where is this world going to? I would go outside but I'm paranoid :)

I am 21 so its all fresh in my mind. I was the type to play video games... A LOT of video games. I started at the age of 3 or something really silly with Mario on the Nintendo. My parents were ok with it but they also wanted me to go outside so they looked for something for me to do. In the end it was bikes, i like riding my bike to/from places enough that I don't want a car yet. Also being inside most of the time led to me playing D&D which if played properly requires a lot of imagination. Looking at myself now i have not changed much, i am a computer nerd (although a crappy one due to money issues). But i still enjoy doing the one or two activities outside. I don't think that it has hurt my imagination at all, but just my physical attributes. I am going to let my kids (when i have some) play lots of video games, and i will play with them, but I hope to encourage them to have some outdoor experience too.

Besides all this video gaming lets me have L33T 7YP1NG 5K1LL5, P0W3R 70 7H3 PR0!!!11!111!!
(i am so sorry about that) :P
