Cloning dinosaurs is a bad idea. Even if you just want to do it just to look at them Just imagine if one escapes a local zoo and goes on a rampage in New York City.

If we cloned a dinosaur we would make sure that didn't happen.

We have lions in our zoos that break out from time to time. Would we need to have machine gun towers overlooking our dino exhibits?

If we cloned a dinosaur I would do everything in my power to ensure that it did.

You can't clone memories. As a result the knowledge of the dinosaurs has been lost forever, if we clone one we won't be able to use it to learn things like behaviours because these are learned, usually from the parents or other society members, both of which fail to exist today.

ALL living beings have genetic memories; insticts. Recently Discovery Channel did a special called 'In the Womb', talking about how animals learn a lot of things before ever even being born, such as a dog learning to pant.

Human children actually have some understanding of the concepts of speech upon birth, now this isn't instinct or any other DNA-encoded memory, it is merely the fact that they can hear us in there.
We do not know how much dinosaurs learned while in the egg, but it is safe to assume there is at least something significant we can't replicate.

All in all we could effectively learn something from them, but the question still remains as to is this is something it learned from us, something it came up with by itself, or something hidden within its DNA, and in turn we can't really attain any form of reliable result.

And; 'other society members' ? Just what does that mean?

Now I don't mean something like a human society, but there would still have been a society of some kind. In this case it would be the other dinosaurs it sees during its life, now this can lead to it learning things like to not walk off a cliff or that eating vegetarians is alright.

Well it depends if the dinosaur has to be parented or not. While most I think were raised, some might not have and that would be the best kind to clone because they don't need others of their kind to learn how to live.

Why would an escaped dinosaur be any more dangerous than an escaped grizzly bear. Grizzly bears are tougher than dinosaurs.

Maybe, maybe not. But I guarantee that an escaped dinosaur would cause more panic than an escaped Grizzly Bear.

I would think the size of the dino would be of more importance really.

I would be more scared of a deinonychus than any other dinosur and they are only the size of a human. They are the "velociraptor" in Jurrasic Park.

Size doesn't have much to do with it. Some of the biggest dinosaurs were hervibores, if I recall correctly.

doesn't matter what they eat, its the fear factor of there size that would scare everyone away... just so happens there would only be squished people on the list of killed.

I don't know...Ol' Yeller sure kicked that Bear's ass, and he was just an old lop-eared mutt.
