Should the word "God" be mentioned in the Pledge of Allegiance? Should we even have to do the Pledge in school?

Since the generic term for the almighty all powerful being in most religions is God, saying it in the pledge shouldn't be offensive to anyone. Saying the Pledge in school is alright, when I went to school I must have said it thousands of times.

I successfully made it through all four years of high school without saying the full pledge once. It wasn't because of the God line, it was just because i didn't care.
Religion is regarded by the common people as true, by the wise as false, and by the rulers as useful.

We used to say the pledge in school, but I didn't participate mostly. I'm more interested in actions, not words, and most people who parrot the words of the pledge don't uphold the ideals that America was created on so the practice is empty.

I agree with you there Falcon, it was an empty practice repeating the same words over and over again without really grasping the meaning.

Half the kids in my class don't even say it. They just stand up and stare dazed like zombies. Do they do pledges in other countries during school?

I don't care. Half the time I just stood up and checked out girls and half the time I sat down and checked out girls.

Up here in Canada we don't have to say a pledge during school, but in elementry school we did sing the national anthym though in elementry school. I had to say the pledge once but it was something to do with the military...

Smurf!, that we did do. At least it was school-wide and only on Mondays, so you could get out of doing it...

Instead of a pledge, how about a course on government and the Constitution that isn't a complete joke.

You seem to be implying that you don't hate commies?

Sure.

It's not as if there is actually separation of Church and State.

We have to do a prayer (uses the word Lord as most of the people in my class are Hindu) but I'm pretty sure practically every other state school in Britain doesn't have one. Instead of amen I just say down with God no one really cares.
