 What happens if as each doomsday scenario plays out, us humans use science/technology to overcome the scenario? For example when sun turns into red giant in 5 Billion years time we'll survive because we'll have escaped to another inhabitable planet in another solar system. If we have billions upon billions of years to perfect science (technology) perhaps one day we'll be able to time travel to the past. Then scientists will be able to transfer the consciousness of every being that ever existed (a few nanoseconds before death) to man-made eternal bodies in a man-made heaven for eternity. In other words, using science we'll overcome all the doomsday scenarios and live for eternity! We just got to make sure a doomsday scenario doesn't get us first, and hope like hell that time travel to the past is possible! Euroman |

Sounds kind of like this. Assuming we don't talk about that.... Is this eternity placed in this universe or are we creating a new one? Edit- How do you link individual pages? It is the farewell page. |

Considering the fact that everything in this universe isn't eternal, the only way we could be is by creating a new universe. -Dirk |

The 'eternity' place is a place that doesn't depend on anything else, so nothing can destroy it and put the inhabitants in danger. Perhaps it could be put inside this universe as long as this universe doesn't get ripped apart, or perhaps it could be external to this universe.....who knows. Euroman

There would come a time when we would get to the point of a Technological Singularity (assuming we keep developing more and more faster). It is impossible for us not to end, as we have all of eternity to reach that end. |

True dat. Even if we go through the Singularity, that doesn't mean we're in another universe. The universe we're in at the moment will still be underlying, and if that ends, so do we. -Dirk |

'Entropy' vs 'Science & Intelligence' Are you so sure that Entropy will win? And when science works out where all the energy in the beginning came from and how it started, science will turn the knowledge into a technology and the 'man-made heaven' will never run down! Euroman  |

Of course entropy wil win. It's the force that regulates time and it's also the force that makes life capable of existence. We can't defy a law of physics that makes us capable of living without dying. -Dirk |

Entropy is the amount of choas in the universe. Say for instence you break a glass. You are contributing to entropy, making the universe more choatic. No matter how hard you try to rearange those glass pieces the glass will never be that exact same glass. The glass I refer to is matter in the universe, it will get used up and eventually due to entropy will be small choatic bunches of matter, which eventually will decay and nothing will be left. And you can't reverse chemical changes (Gr.9 science class...) which is exactly what entropy is... Also I think there is a book on this subject (fiction) by Issav Amioz (don't think I spelt that right, too lazy...) called the Last Question. |

I'm sorta thinking like Dirk and Neo. I do agree entropy will win but I don't think we will be able to create a new universe because according to entropy, we would need more energy in the entire universe to make a new universe, right? |

Related to this is the concept of healthy life extension: M Prize Fight Aging! I think we would have to work this one out first to become even close to immortal although you could argue that we will be able to upload consciousness to a computer one day. However, how would we know that it was in fact your consciousness, I mean would you be aware like you are now? Hope I make a bit of sense here and someone gets what I'm trying to say.

I get what you're trying to say. Can we ever figure out a way to convert a conscious to an electrical pulse? I'm sure someone is trying to figure this out right now as I type. Imagine if you could upload a soldier's conscious when they are fatally wounded and download it back into a new genetically constructed body. Can we say a perfect soldier? And better yet, imagine if you are a multi-billion corporate tycoon and you find out you have a terminal illness...no fear, just go to your local immortal store and pick out a body of your choice. Then, transfer your conscious into it and continue on. Scary stuff. |

That is some crazy stuff, I guess we'd live long enough to figure out which way the world is going to end and see if this site is correct! |
