http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SUSTAIN_%28military%29 It's essentially a plan to find a way to deploy Marines from orbit, ABOVE a designated country. That technically wouldn't count as dispatching soldiers into a neighbor's country in their airspace. What do guys think of it? |

Sounds like it would suck for the marines. Why don't they just deploy them the conventional way? The other countries would just make it a law that that's 'being in their airspace.' |

Of course the US could decide to stop invading countries willy-nilly, but that's likely not sufficiently violent to suit the bloodlust of the country is it? |

Does this remind anyone else of Starship Troopers(the book, not the movie)? Droping soldiers from orbit sounds cool but making sure they survive the drop is a tough task. Their trajectory is a straight line, they're slower than ballistic missiles and already multiple countries have operational ABM systems. Only for americans resolving all those problems would be easier than establishing friendly relationships with other countries

Yeah, how about we don't do the whole "fire soldiers at enemy countries" option, and then spend the same amount of money helping about war torn countries so that when they decide to get all pissed off in the teenage years of their government, they don't threaten us, and we don't launch into another full blown "military action". |

Why not follow the same idea... but replace marines with explosives, and forget all about the slowing down part. If they are going to all the trouble to invade politically correct then just go all out and blow them up. |

That isn't one of our greatest ideas. Assuming we have good ideas anyway. Most troops would probably just die on the way down. For some reason I'm thinking of Halo 2 at the moment, those little pods the marines used to be deployed from orbit. |

I don't see how this particularly would be effective, unless it was a stealth run. Aircrafts can be easily detected. But drops from orbit? Not so much. - Taslan |

Sucks to be marine, it seems. Hey marine! You have survived a war with Iraq, now we launch you into orbit and drop you in a pod! *shoots himself* |
