Just reading up on the debate about racism and I remembered something i saw discussed a while back. How does society treat women now, is there still a biased against them and how bad is it? Also is there a bias for them and how bad is it? Now for the discussion, it was regarding women in domestic abuse cases, but not the ones we hear about. Women who abuse men, and how men are afraid to come out (because they think if they cant deal with a women, then they are not a man), or how it simply wont be believed. I have seen videos that show its true (A man got jumped by 3 women because he said something rude, he never hit them, and only he was arrested) Also there was a convention for men who were abused by women and a group of women showed up and started causing a problem. Now I am not saying it biased for or against, just pointed out some things in the for category because its less talked about. Also came to mind with some women joining the site, and their opinion would be greatly appreciated! Anyway your turn... unless nobody else posts, then i will just get Rhas to quadruple post this topic to destruction. |

Anybody in the UK not sure if anywhere else would have probably seen that weird Shelia's wheels advert... Well other than the fact that they seem to drive in reverse all the time i have noticed that well its a WOMEN ONLY INSURANCE COMPANY! Now one little problem is its rather sexist so why don't the men make a males only advert? Because who would be up in arms? Probably the women... But that brings up the problem that men didn't complain about there females only advert. But the women would feel obliged to complain about a advert thats sexist against women. I'm just saying it isn't always one sided with the subject about being bias. Feel free to shove me onto the pavement and have my brains (If there is any) smashed to oblivion by a pissed off persons foot. |

As Charlie Brooker has said, we COULD complain that adverts targeted at women feature a sexist portrayal of men as complete imbeciles, but on the other hand the men in adverts aimed at men are all utter blokey cocks. (This was an episode of Screen Wipe. He went on to name his No. 1 Cock in Advertising as everyone from the Coca Cola Zero ad in which they wish things in life would come without downsides, like "girlfriends without the five year plan." Shudder.) |

I have a feeling that the debate on sexism is the same as the debate on race but just not as extreme. Most discrimination is against women but all the attention goes to the fewer discriminations against men. This is a little different debate since men and women are different but they should be treated equally except in a few situations. |

Umm...how? When was the last time you heard a guy win an abuse case over a woman? I don't understand how one gender, race, or class can be viewed more negative or better than the other. Pierce its the individual that makes the choice not the race/gender that he/she was born to... |

Now that I look at it more it is probably more equal. For example there was a controversy about 3 guys raping a girl. Some people said we should have more sympathy to the girl and others said we should have more sympathy to the three guys since there wasn't a conviction yet. All perspective. |

I know someone who's (female) friend abuse her husband, and when it was taken to the police, they laughed. Unfortunately, that's not at all uncommon. I read an article about it in which the abuse man claimed to have told the police she often threw ash trays at him, to which the police replied "So why didn't you duck?" |

That's some scary shit. I have a friend who's girlfriend turned out to be bi-polar. It was all fun and games until he woke up one night to her holding a knife to his throat threatening to kill him. I would like to hope that if he would've gone to the police, they would have at least spoken with her. Needless to say, they were a short lived item. |
