I agree. Why can't we just be people? We create our own racial tension by having to call ourselves "caucasian" or "Africian-American". Does race mean different species? Simple answer: No. Study your cultural or racial background, embrace it, but don't make what defines you as a person.

I agree fully, except with the last part of studying our cultural and racial background... I mean, you can feel free to do so at any time you want, but to study it for the sake of studying it just breeds blind nationality. Quite honestly, I've always found the whole study your roots and see if you're German/Irish/Polish, etcetera thing to be quite American.

People from other countries or with such experience illustrate me, if you will.

That's my whole point. If you want to learn about your cultural background, then do study it. Just don't let it define you or use it to judge those who are different around you.

Studying your cultural background is American. Think about it, America is nothing more than many different races, nationalities, cultures forming into one single nation.

Shhh. He has strange 'pods' growing out of his head. It's an unfortunate medical condition.

Yeah, Most people just use the term african american because they never really thought about what it implies...

Personally I just think of them as "black" "white" etc...

The actual terms (learned in my cultural geography class), for several of the "original" or "early" races

Negroid (black skin)
Caucasion (white skin)
Mongoloid (asian looking)

and the fourth one i don't actually recall, but it refers to the aboriginals of Austrailia...

And yeah, i like the thought of refering to someone as "Bill" or "Jane"... rather than "that black guy"
