Not to mention that transistors are becoming obsolete (supplanted by microchips).

98% of the internet population has a Myspace. If you're part of the 2% that isn't an emo bastard, copy and paste this into your sig.

What we should do is throw all of man's inventions into a large pit and see what survives.

So, I guess we're just throwing the transistor out of this then.

Yes

Compared to the majesty that is the pointy stick the feeble transistor becomes somewhat superfluous.

Is it too late to throw in sliced bread then?

fire is obviously the biggest technological advancement mankind has ever made

We didn't create fire, though. We learned to harness it. So, to be more specific, it would have to be learning to harness fire is man's biggest technological advancement.

everything is important! dammit this isn't an argument anymore

Depends on how you look at it... The farther back you go in time, the bigger the ripple effect the invention will have in modern day. Without some of earlier inventions, we wouldn't have fared as well.

Otherwise, you could look at it as the invention that completely revolutionized life. Or just one that bridged the widest gap between understanding and application.

its like in history saying "which one of those many events caused this event to become inevitable?"

the answer is that they're all important, you can't miss any of them out, otherwise things wont be as they are.

i hate arguments about fate, past, present or future

Thus why I offered the two other criteria for deciding which one is the best...

well, even a little invention can change a lot, for example it could lead to a bigger invention. would you now say the little invention is more important or the one that was caused by it?

Causing a bigger invention does not revolutionize life. The bigger invention does.

That or the spear, you cant imagine the trouble it saved our ancient ancestors.

In fact, tools (no, I'm not talking emo's or internet trolls) are the reason we walk upright unlike the great apes.

-Dirk

Where did you get that?

The biggest reason apparently was because walking upright is more efficient.

If tools are the reason we walk upright then we can attribute walking upright to our thumbs.....without our opposable thumbs, we would have zero tools.
