Hahaha, if it makes you feel better Dirk, I once read in a book from the 80s that Jupiter was really a planet in the process of becoming a star.

'Tis going to need a hell of a lot more mass for that to happen... they've found planets that are 8 times as heavy and still not even close to becoming a brown dwarf. Anyways, if that's true I wonder what they believed in the 60's. That the Earth was the center of the universe?

I'm guessing it was the lack of comparison with other planets and brown dwarfs, given that the rationale was that Jupiter was putting out more energy than the sun put in it.

White dwarfs emit energy as well, and they're inactive. And the inside of Neptune is dense enough to set off some nuclear fusion in it as well, would that make it a planet becoming a star? Not really, since it's only 13 times as massive as Earth.

Yeah, I'm aware of the physics of it already. Why are you still rattling off this stuff when the point has been made that it's bullshit? It's like kicking a corpse in the hopes it will die.

A radical change in the daily way of life.

Though honestly, that's just something loose left up for the debater to refine himself. ;)
