Deus Ex comes from the latin phrase Deus Ex Machina (a god from a machine). A new civilisation, addressing the flaws in human nature, all beings truely equal in both body performance and mind performance. How will this be possible? The machine, if a machine (this is where the Deus Ex part comes into it) can read the minds of human beings making for a perfect democracy. This isn't freedom. - Is it freedom that a child born into poverty with a chance of never making it in life, compared to the wealthy child that is shaped every day of his life, trained, educated with the best chances in his life? Is human nature perfect? no, changes need to be welcomed, improvements are always needed. This won't be possible (at least, not anytime soon), but imagine that it was, how it would completely change the world, to have a machine reading the thoughts in your mind, no privacy, but every thought you have would be read and action would be made on it. |

But what if Bob Page won? Which in reality he almost certainly would. Such a system would have to be created, and methinks it wouldn't be created by a libertarian. |

In reality yes, he would of won, but in the game there are nano - augmentations which in reality i don't think exist on a huge scale, maybe drugs like steroids could be classed as minor augmentations for a limited time. And the reason Bob Page wanted the whole "new democracy" was because of nano - augmentations. I did get this idea from the game Deus Ex, but it's not what i'm talking about, i'm talking about what would happen if this truely did happen, how it would completely re-shape our world, our beliefs, our lifes. |

I don't think human perfection would come from making a machine to do it for us. I think it's more of a morality/greed thing.....also if we really were to make a god from a machine it would like..take control of the human race in about *rolls hand* a week. |

Let's just hope that Microsoft aren't working on Windows Deus, the version that finally unifies the world into a super-hive-mind. And then has 6 billion driver conflicts. |

I like that analogy. Microsoft Deus: we control you and then don't boot. I do hope that humans keep themselves in control of humans

It's possible. Everything you think of is nothing more than bioelectricity, and nature has proven you can read the mind. Sharks can sense electricity, they know what your thinking if your in the water. Why can't we? |

Not LITERALLY. In fact, not at all. A shark's reaction to a swimming person is at best obliviousness, and at worst confusion and mild hostility. It has no idea what we're doing in there, and very occasionally they even take a quick bite to test us out. Unfortunately we happen to be fleshy and soft. Also, the reason we can't sense electricity is because we don't have the relevant sensory equipment. But you never know - maybe it could be synthesised. Finally, I firmly believe that mind-reading and psychic powers are a load of baloney. At best it's cold-reading. |

Shame that humans can't keep control of humans, wars, poverty, discrimination, polution. This isn't keeping control of ourselfs, well, i wouldn't say it is. |
