The main rules when in combat in another members character, are to be realistic and to know your characters limits. NO POWER-PLAYING is allowed (taking control of another members character) unless given express permission by the member in question before hand.

For instance if you are up against a character with high magic who casts Flare on you, unless you have extremely high protective magic you are not going to come away from the attack unscathed. Nor will you be able to send out a barrage of high level spells (e.g Holy, Flare, Thundara, Ultima, etc.) one after the other, if at all, if you are the character casting the magic.

It is up to your opponent when you attack them, how their character will take it. (i.e. dodge, block or be hit). However remember that no one is perfect and even high level characters will be hit sometimes. There’s no fun if there’s no challenge in the battle.

Even if you are a high-leveled character (i.e. headmasters and instructors) try to limit the way you use your characters abilities, for example if your character is strong at magic, you wouldn’t use Ultima in a normal fight, or until you have no choice but to do so. Remember anyone who shows his or her trump card too early is lost.

Most of all have fun, and try to be as inventive as possible.

Here is an example of a fight between Laurana Ceurr, a character with strong magic and GF abilities as well as agility, and Amiel Serdio, a character with strong combat, agility and protective magic abilities. The posts are going to be shorter than I’d usually make them but for the purpose of this example they’re fine.

AMIEL'S POST

The strong wind of the storm around them whipped his hair and trench coat as he faced his opponent, ignoring the sharp, icy sensation of rain being swept against his cheaks. His deep emerald eyes narrowed as he looked across the ruins that had once been a glorious temple dedicated to the worship of Hyne and was now destined to be the battle field between the two garden heads.

Amiels right hand, donning  a tight black leather fingerless glove, reached up to his shoulder, grasping the grip of his sword, Everlight, strapped against his back, his other, similarly clothed hand reaching up to his forehead, brushing away a lock of soaking wet, long brown hair.

Neither his voice nor his features betrayed any emotion as he spoke.

“So… You came… Laurana.”

LAURANA'S POST

The wet splinters falling from the heavens bounced harmlessly off Laurana's bare shoulders before sliding down her smooth skin until they met her light blue robe, almost resembling water itself as it flowed around her, the wind only adding to the effect, the ends of it whipping gracefully around her smooth bare legs. The frigid conditions had no effect on her, as she held her right hand to her left side, grasping the hilt of her short sword, Monterosa, her slender fingers fitting perfectly around the grip of the weapon. Her dark brown eyes looked past the stray dark brown hair that whipped past her vision, concentrating on the man 20 yards away, knowing that it was crucial to do so. She knew his fighting style - having been on many-a-mission with him in the past - and that he would use his speed to his advantage. From the look of it, he was also wary of her.

She liked the idea of having to fight him as much as he did fighting her: not at all. But she also knew that there was no turning back now for either of them. This battle was inevitable. Therefore she would waste no time. The first move would be hers.

“I’m sorry…”

Her left palm flew out as the Thundaga spell shot from it, the powerful thunder magic racing towards Amiel.

AMIEL'S 2nd POST

Amiel's deep green eyes widened ever so slightly as the magical attack raced towards him. Without thinking his own left hand flew out, fore and middle-fingers extended. The familiar green shimmering of the reflect spell appeared before him as the Thundaga spell hit the protective barrier, doubling back on itself, hurtling back towards its caster.

He had to move, at this distance he was more than vulnerable to her magic. In a blur Serdio leapt upwards and to the right, his hair and coat tails whipping around him as he planted his feet on one of the still upstanding pillars.  He pushed off the vertical surface, his right hand still gripping Everlight, his sword, sheathed behind him. He met the next pillar, one to the left, and above Laurana. His knee-high booted feet came into contact with the ancient stone structure, his right arm pulled upwards, unsheathing the 4 foot long wide blade. His left hand gripped the long handle beneath his right hand as he soared down at the Galbadian headmistress, his weapon swinging down for a severe strike.

LAURANA'S 2nd POST

The Galbadian SeeD commander felt no surprise as Amiel's reflect spell caused her own spell to be used against her. However, no fear registered on her face as she took appropriate action to dodge the spell. Her feet kicked off from the ground as she flipped to the left, her robe tails following her with the same water like effect. The Thundaga spell sped harmlessly past as she was halfway through the air. Her landing was perfect and her sharp eyes caught Serdio's blurred movement. Her right hand brought out Monterosa, bringing the blade up above her as the tall man descended down upon her, sparks flying as the two blades met and grinded against each other. Her free left palm flew out once more, a Fira spell sent across the foot between them both.

AMIEL'S 3rd POST

The Balamb headmaster knew that with both of his hands grasping the Everlight, in the split second before the Fira spell would hit him, he would have no time to block it, he therefore had only enough time to slightly tense himself as the fire magic hit him hard in the chest, sending him hurling back, through the wet air, to slam into the pillar he had pushed down off. The ancient masonry cracked and smashed behind him.

He stumbled slightly but regained his balance, resisting the urge to bring his hand up to his smoking chest, which thankfully hadn’t taken too much damage. His teeth gritted, his right hand now grasping the sword brought the weapon  slamming down into the ground, discharging energy through the blade, ripping up the ground, towards Laurana as the bolt of force was sent through the earth towards the headmistress...

Remember, fights may take many posts and the actions need plenty of description; your opponent will need to know exactly what is going on so they can write their reaction in the best way possible. People do get hurt in fights, so allow your character to be hurt. It adds to the realism of the fights and the enjoyment for both participants.

Happy fighting!
