Role Playing (RPing) is the most important part of the Final Fantasy VIII-2 forums, and so having the knowledge of role play is essential.

Role Playing is like writing a book, but with other people, and you only controlling one of the characters.

You use your character to make a story with the other members' characters, only controlling your own. This way, you cannot control the character another person has created, and make it do as you please - this is called God-moding.

The same rules of the English language apply in role playing as any other writing - there are paragraphs, punctuation, speech marks for characters, and descriptions.

However, there are some new rules:

Your characters thoughts are shown in italics. To use this, put your character's thoughts in between the italics code.
E.g.
Code:

[i]And if he doesn't come back by his own accord, I'm going to Esthar to get him myself![/i]

Any comments you wish to make out of character, not to do with the roleplay, you must use "OOC" to signify. (OOC stands for out of character.)
E.g.
Quote:

OOC: By the way, my character has now left the storyline.

There are different ways to show OOC, such as [OOC: (comment)], ((OOC: (comment))), -OOC: (comment)-. You can use whichever you like, just make sure it's clear that your comment is out of character by using the term "OOC".

Here is a good example of role playing:

Quote:

It was a beautiful day for a day-trip to the beach: the sun was out and beating heavily on the golden sands, the sky was blue, and the ocean clear and calm.

Many people had already flocked to the shore and had set up their deck-chairs. Others were swimming in the crisp sea. It seemed like everyone had stopped the hassle of their daily routine to get outside and relax.

One man on a deck chair particularly stood out from the crowd - he was wearing a tuxedo and kept his shoes on while lying down on his chair. He was monitoring unknowing people through his dark sunglasses, seemingly trying to pick out someone in particular.

It was clear when the man found this person, as this man got up to meet a woman, who had been looking back for a moment before. She was also dressed in a suit and sunglasses. She shook his hand and they walked off the beach, to the nearest street, in the shade.

"Did you find him?" the woman asked. She sounded very stern - the kind of voice you recognize immediately as being from someone not to mess with. "Did you?"

The man grunted and looked down at the ground. He murmured something inaudible, and promptly received a hard slap on the side of his face from the woman, receiving a bold red mark.

The woman shook her head disapprovingly and walked away. "Find him."

So now you know how to role play at FFVIII-2! Please stick to the rules! If you forget how it's done, you can always look at the other members' posts, or check back at this example. Please don't hesitate to talk to a member of administration.
