discuss which one you think is better and why? i personally think 80's horror is better, less cgi, better characters, better story, better atmosphere and of coarse better blood and guts in most of the movies. |

Yea it took me a lot of inner struggling (especially since I hated the entire look/fads/styles of the 80's) but when I boiled it down, 80's all the way. Even the cheap-o, no budget/actor or effects of most of the films made up with it with blood, sex, rock and roll, and more blood and guts, lol. Today's CGI and over payed actors, even of the shit movies, totally ruin a lot of creative, great story lined/plot movies. Obviously some movies get it to work out, but the majority are shitty. |

Overall, I have to go with 80s horror versus today. For one thing, there was more of it. For another, the effects had to be inventive, simply because the technology wasn't there for anything else. No CGI meant that creative folks had to use their noggins to figure out a way to do something, and that led to much inovation within the films. Also by and large, the movies had more coherent scripts than the horror of today/ I can't imagine someone in the 80s not saying, "Stop! If your heroine is 20 years old, then the latest this film can take place in is Year X, not year X + 18 (TC3D example). Now, havign said all that, I will always be able to point out exceptions to the rule. There will always be some movies that stand out versus their 80s counterparts, but usually that is not because of technology or innovation, but simply because the script, stars and production are simply superior. |

Honestly I think they are tied. The 80's had so many great franchises and standalone films, but recently we have seen such great films. I feel like the 80's were more successful for slashers, and in recent years we have seen many great remakes, and human horror films. |
