Went to the movies today. So that's 46 this year I think so far. Trying to get to 60 and then I'll be done.

Let's see here... February - + Chronicle - Very surprising and enjoyed it despite the needless found footage element + Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance - Not a great movie but not a boring one like I found the first movie. Over the top moments made it one to remember. + Act of Valor - Interesting movie, but nothing too special. Action scenes were intense and real. March - + 21 Jump Street - Great movie. Humor missed the mark on occasion but a fun ride. + The Hunger Games - It was alright. The action scenes sucked, especially the fighting which was like watching a hyperactive 5 year with the camera who isn't sure where to shoot. I suppose that's what we get when we have kids fighting. This was the only book in the series I cared for, so not sure if I'll bother seeing the others. April - + The Avengers - Enjoyable action blockbuster with a worthless story. Probably overhyped but more enjoyable than the Transformers/Battlefield esque blockbusters + Men in Black 3 - Surprisingly really enjoyed this one. Right up their next to the first one and included some fantastic acting from Josh Brolin. Time travel was neat. Didn't care for the second one, glad to see this one top it. June - + Piranha 3DD - Watched VOD. I actually loved it, couldn't stop laughing at moments. Definitely one to watch with friends and it surpassed the original in my opinion but I understand others disagree. + Prometheus - Great sci-fi thriller but pales in comparison to the Ridley's own Alien. Go in with no expectations and you should have a good time. Effects were great and at times it was a gorgeous film + Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter - Did not like. I'm not a huge B movie fan and this one did nothing for me. A few funny moments but it never really grabbed me, like it did a few friends. + Ted - Loved it. Great humor and and interesting take on the talking bear kid's stories. Mark Walberg is at his best when doing comedy, or hilarious horror movies like The Happening. Actually I take that back, he was alright in Departed, Shooter, and The Fighter (underrated). The guy get's a bad rap but does have some nice work under his belt. July - + The Amazing Spider-Man - Good film but not as great as the second Spider-Man in my eyes. Fight scenes were fun but a few plot points were a little stupid and convenient. + The Dark Knight Rises - Great film, but one that was hindered with being a "finale". Came across as a reunion piece at times. What isn't dragged down by the ending is superb and Hardy's performance as Bane was great. Great ending to a spectacular superhero epic. August - + Total Recall - Disappointing. Very few remakes get me excited but there was so many interesting things they could have done with Recall. Evey thing falls flat from acting, story, and futuristic ideas (cell phone hands...really?!). The very definition of a movie that is neither good nor bad, it was just generic and boring. CGI world was impressive, and as much as people hate it...I'm willing to accept it as an artistic style like it was used in this film. +The Bourne Legacy - Good film but not as good as the Damon ones in my opinion. Very dialog heavy at times but I found it all rather interesting with an exception being a few slow scenes. Jeremy Renner gave a great performance, and the opening scenes in the frozen wasteland/cabin were fantastic. + The Expendables 2 - Great 90s love letter. I was not a fan of the first movie but most of my problems were solved in this one. Plot is a little rough but understandable when considering the source material. + Paranorman - Loved it. One of my favorite animated movies now I'd reckon. Love the horror references that were made and felt that they overarching theme of being "shunned" or not accepted was both beautiful and sad. September - + Dredd 3D - A good film but it never got much higher than that it my eyes. Some great moments and some poor moments. Violence was Beautiful Violent and I really enjoyed the use of slow motion personally. Hope they get a sequel but I doubt it. + Looper - Great film, and one that's sort of hard to discuss why without spoiling. An interesting blend of action-scifi-noir-western. Action scenes were a little light and boring from what I recall but the story was very entertaining. October - + Taken 2 - Yeah I didn't ask for it but what I got was creative, intriguing, and most importantly enjoyable. Not as good as the original, but it's hard to top the surprise hit that Taken 1 was. Loved the idea of "revenge" and the idea that these random bad guys from the first movie would have a father just as determined as Liam Neeson. + Sinister - Loved this movie as I'm sure you all know now. Great cinematography and a fantastic story that helps justify a few horror cliches that are never explained in other movies. Ethan Hawke was great and he works as a go between for the found footage films and the audience. Ethan is a very flawed character and one that, while I never agreed with, I immensely enjoyed. + Paranormal Activity 4 - Didn't like it. Only really enjoyed the third movie. I felt this one was more of the same and between the fake jump scares and plot threads that have become to convoluted for its own good with answers that seem to contradict each other. Became more bored by the second. + Silent Hill Revelation 3D - Wasn't a fan of the first but found this one to be a good movie. Generic at times and the acting was less than ideal for just about everyone but the main character whom I found tolerable. Some really interesting scenes but a few more monsters wouldn't of hurt. November - + Wreck-it-Ralph - Loved this one as well, perhaps in part due to my history with video games. A love letter to gaming and one that reached my own frozen and desolate soul. Funny for all ages especially those young at heart. Some really emotional moments (ok maybe just one) that pull enough heart strings to make other movies jealous. The short Paperman was nice as well even if I felt it bordered on cheesy at the end. + Skyfall - Perhaps my favorite this year. 23 films later and James Bond can still pull off an amazing movie. Not much to say. Great action, great visuals, great villain, emotional moments were had, and the theme of no longer needed a "Bond" esque agent was a fantastic premise for Mr. Bond's 50th anniversary. Well, that was fun. If you are still reading this then thank you for being interested in my opinion! But let's face it, you just scrolled to the end didn't you. :P All that's left is maybe The Rise of the Guardians, The Hobbit, and Jack Reacher. Mayyybe. Edited by Bades, Dec 3 2012, 10:31 PM.
