So something really big just came up and I think it's really important that all three judges and mentors talk about this @.@
I don't mean to stick my head where it doesn't belong, but I just heard something that has me incredibly concerned BTW, I spoke with Billy and (While originally I was going to wait for Challenge 3), I decided to go ahead and post two sample characters ~
Sample 1
Spoiler: click to toggle Age: 21 Picture: Posted Image-Joshua Bowman Personality: Cocky, flirty, and definitely a lilies bit on the selfish side. Travis naturally comes off as a preppy rich boy douchebag. Now Travis more than openly admits that this is definitely a part of him that he has NO intention to totally remove, feeling it's part of what helped him survive for so long, but he tries to counteract it somewhat with a nice side too. He doesn't want to be a complete douchebag or just the nice guy, Travis tries his best to find a good balance between the two instead. It may not always be easy for him, but he likes it a whole lot more than just having one side to him. Travis loves meeting new people. Partially to show off his stuff (well his DAD'S stuff), partially to show what he's good it, and partially in hopes that he'll meet someone who actually cares about him. Travis pretty much gets that most of his friends, if not all of them, couldn't care less about him. They like his stuff. They like the benefits that come with being Travis's friend. He doesn't mind though. In his mind it's better to feel lonely with people around rather than be lonely with no one at all. So he hangs around them, gives them nice stuff for free, pays for nice trips that they can go on, etc. He flaunts all his wealth to make more friends. It's the only way he knows how. Travis gets they don't really care about him (despite the fact he legitimately DOES like to see them happy), but he feels a little better having people to be with. Sure, he'd like to have real friends that care about more than just his money, but it could be worse. At least that's how Travis sees things. That said Travis understands that people have different views, and more importantly that his views are heavily influenced by his father's wealth. Travis lived a very privileged life, getting anything he ever wanted. He's more than sure this impacts his view of the world. As hard as he might try, Travis has a really difficult time relating to some of his friends problems. He doesn't have to worry about money or working or any of that stuff. He tries to be somewhat sympathetic, but in general be can't relate to it much; just like plenty of Travis's friends don't relate to his problems. They don't really see (and some don't even care) what could make him unhappy. They look at his life as the perfect life. Plenty of money, smart, attractive, and people constantly hanging around him. What more could he want? Well, for a start Travis feels alone. Surrounded by people that don't care about him. He'd give it all up to find someone who actually cared about him and his well being. He wishes he had a better family, real friends, that he would accomplish something more than being known to be a fun person to hang around. Travis wants to be looked at like he's a REAL person, not some rich boy who parties all day and sleeps with tons of girls. He wants to be treated like a human being, not a stereotype. History: Travis has never worked a day in his life. His dad, Adam, pays for everything of his, sort of a way to make up for not actually spending time with him. Travis's mom, Isabella, is at who know where. They divorced pretty shortly after she gave birth, and she's never really been interested in finding him. So Travis would grow up with his dad. Always too busy to spend any time bonding with his son, Adam pretty much hired babysitters to to take care of him. As Travis got older he started to treat it like a game. How long does it take to drive a baby sitter off? Will his dad finally get the message that Travis wants to know him? Will the next one be any better? Finally when he was around 9 or 10, his dad hired some highschool boy, Roman. He would not leave no matter what Travis tried. Roman would generally just shrug off whatever Travis did unless it was truly bad. He would not leave, and it was driving Travis nuts. How can he down time with his dad if this guy won't leave? Finally Travis gave up and settled to coexist with Roman. When Roman caught this, he took his chance to help Travis as much as he could. Roman would actually try to spend more time with Travis and get how he felt. The two boys developed a strong friendship that has long since faded. Roman was the one person Travis thought even remotely cared about him. When he left for college and the two fell out of touch it was a major blow for Travis, one he swore to himself he'd NEVER go through again. He still made "friends" but was always careful when it came to developing a true friendship, and Travis actually hasn't found anyone he felt comfortable being friends with yet. By the time he hit highschool, Travis decided he needed to try something different. He wasn't making friends and his family was ignoring him. So he began to act out. Travis would party, get drunk, do some drugs (though he'd be VERY careful on what ones he used. Travis didn't want to destroy his life with them) Travis would even break a few laws, nothing huge, but enough to get some news notice. He didn't care if it would harm his or his father's reputations. If Travis got his dad's attention, that was enough. And oh boy did he succeed. His dad finally put his foot down, laying down some severe punishments and restrictions on Travis, and then Adam went right back to ignoring his son for work. That's when it sunk in for Travis. His dad didn't care about him at all. No one did. He had everything a teenager could ask for but no one to really share it with. He felt completely alone. He tried to be strong (at least in his perception) an fight through it. Just keep doing what he needs to and accept what his life was, but each day got harder and harder. He felt worse about himself and his life each day. Finally Travis had enough. One night, when he was 18 just after graduation, Travis tried to kill himself. In his mind, Travis was ending all the pain he'd ever felt with one act. It didn't work. Travis isn't really sure of all the details, but he remembers his dad walking into Travis's room to give him something when Adam saw his son's suicide attempt. Adam called 911 immediately while doing everything he possibly could to make sure his son would stay alive. Travis made it. Thinking he finally got his father's attention, Travis cheered up. Only to be disappointed that while his dad spent a little more time with Travis, Adam still didn't really spend much time with his son. That's when it really sunk in for Travis. It didn't matter what he did, his dad was never ever ever going to take a true notice of him. Travis didn't really mind dealing with the hospital or institution or wherever he was kept at while they tried to help him. They certainly gave him more attention than anyone else had in a long time. It took some time, but Travis did begin to make some progress and he was allowed to leave, though he didn't earn back his dad's trust. But at this point Travis didn't even care. He just wanted to leave for college. He was sick of trying to get his dad's attention; he just wanted to get away from all the painful memories he had of home. Travis left for college when he was 19. It really wasn't that much better. Almost the same deal. Lots of people liked his money, hardly any cared about him. At least that's how he perceived everything. He'd finally just made peace with it though. At least he got plenty of attention. Travis just sort of went through college how he did highschool: Good Straight A Student, give people stuff and throw cool parties to make friends. The biggest difference Was basically that he joined a frat. Other wise he felt they were almost the same thing. Same good grades, same shallow friends, same nice stuff. It wasn't much, but it got him by. Strenghts: Outgoing, talkative, athletic, plenty of money, keeps a level head in a crisis, intelligent, good sense of humor, brave Weaknesses: Has a hard time really trusting people, definitely comes off as a complete asshole at times, extreme perfectionist, doesn't always take something to seriously when he should, Travis can feel really depressed at times, definitely a little self centered Extra (Optional): Loves cracking jokes. Seeing his friends happy really does make him feel a little better. He's absolutely clueless on what he wants to do with his life. Loves horror movies, but he really hates how obvious they've become. (He also dislikes most of the final girls) Loves animals and has a pet dog. Doesn't seem like the type, but he'd be willing to risk his life to save another (even if he barely knows them) Couldn't care less about finding his mom. Has an iPhone 4 he takes everywhere. Listens to music he likes when he gets really stressed, it helps him calm down. Sleeps around a lot when single, but very faithful in a relationship. He feels like it only really matters if he likes himself for who he is, Travis stopped caring about others' opinions on him a long time ago.
Sample 2
Spoiler: click to toggle Name: Natalie Rhianna Hanson Age: 17 Occupation: High School Student Role At The Wedding: Maid of Honor Personality: Natalie's THE bitch. She knows what she wants, and she is GOING to get it. Manipulative, cunning, clever, ruthless: all words Natalie uses to describe herself. She likes to look like the cruel bitch who'd truly do anything to get whatever she wants. It makes her feel powerful, like she's the one in control. Natalie likes being in control. In fact, she's a control FREAK. She'd do ANYTHING to stay in control. She can't take it when she loses control. She freaks out. The only thing she could never, ever do is let true harm come to others. She's a bitch, not a sociopath. Natalie wasn't born a bitch though. In fact, she was really, really sweet until she turned about 6. Then her mom died. The one person she was truly close to was gone to NEVER return. Her dad was never really a dad to Natalie, more focused on her foster siblings. Natalie had no mom, and might as well of had no dad. She feels alone, isolated, uncared for. Like life is almost too much for her altogether sometimes. Of course, he'll would freeze over before Natalie shared that with ANYONE. She is soooooo not gonna risk looking like a weak, foolish moron. No. She'll won't tell anyone. Not till she finds the person she trusts. History: Natalie had a really happy early childhood. Her father never noticed her, but that was ok back then. She had her mom and sister, Liz. Then her mom died in a car accident that Natalie had barely survived. She couldn't believe it, and what made it worse was that her mom, Cassidy, was pregnant with her younger sibling. Her REAL younger sibling. Natalie felt like her whole life was falling apart. Even after Cassidy's death, her father, Jeff, still didn't pay much attention to her. Instead placing all of his focus on Liz and Michael. Liz tried to comfort Natalie, but she (Natalie) pulled away. Bitter and angry, Natalie tried to avoid Liz and went out of her way to make Michael's life a living HELL. Her dad cared more about Michael then her, his very own daughter! She hated Michael for it especially. Her mom died 1 year after knowing him and HE NEEDS COMFORT!? No fucking way. She'd come up with all sorts of cruel pranks to play on him. For her sister Liz, however, Natalie had a soft spot. She liked Liz, she trusted Liz. She pulled away from her, but Natalie couldn't bring herself totally hurt or sabotage Liz's life, as much as she wanted to at times. And oh boy would she want to. When Natalie heard Liz was getting married, she was both happy and sad. Happy her sister was going to get married, but sad that the closest thing she had to a friend would leave. However, Natalie's been trying her very best to reconnect with Liz before the wedding, even if they only know each other for a short while. Cassidy's death didn't just impact Liz's family life, it basically obliterated her school life for years. She never was really talkative with others, and when she hit 6th grade she went through this whole awkward goth-phase thing. Natalie doesn't like to talk about it much. Especially since it's hurt her chances for friends However, when Natalie arrived at highschool that ALL changed. She walked in confident, bitchy, sexy, and fully in control. She wanted to be popular, to be the "IT" girl. She wanted adoring fans, even if she wouldn't make friends. Better to be alone surrounded by adoring fans then alone with no one. Or at least Natalie thought so. Either way, she climbed and climbed to the top. Eliminating any competition in her path. Natalie wasn't the type to backdown, but being at the top doesn't make her feel a ton better. Sure, she's Queen Bee and has maybe 1-2 more friends, but they aren't close, bestfriends or anything like that. Just friends. In fact, the person Natalie is closest to is her boyfriend, Zach, whom she invited to the wedding with her. He's the only person she feels even remotely gets her, if anything happened to him that she could have stopped, she'd NEVER forgive herself. Interests: She loves True Blood and Veronica Mars. Fav show, however, is Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Denies being a horror movie fan, even though she watches them pretty regularly (That said, they scare the HELL out of her) Massive reader, she loves books. Fav series is A Song of Ice an Fire. She keeps her love of books secret though, only Liz and Zach know. No need to look like a nerd. Listens to a ton of Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears, Rihanna, etc. DEATH TO JUSTIN BEIBER, HANMAH MONTANNA, AND REBECCA BLACK. Just her PoV  Strengths: Manipulative, clever, thinks outside the box, determined, NEVER gives up (at anything), pretty quick to accept reality, popular Weaknesses: Insecure, feels alone, practically dependent on Zach (Like mega-breakdown if he dies), really bad at swimming, never feels safe to show her true self Fears: Looking weak, being all alone, water, fire, harm coming to Zach or Liz Relationships With Other: Hates her father with a bitter passion. She doesn't actually HATE Michael, but she enjoys terrorizing him. Hoping to be friends with Liz again. Extras: She picked out her own maid of honor dress. She knows the rules, the bride picks shitty dresses for the bridesmaids to look better. Natalie plays by her own rules though. Her dress is amazing and she looks hot as he'll in it. Attending the wedding with Zach. None of her friends are planned to come. Heard a rumor that Zach is going to propose to her the night she graduates and really, really hopes it's true.
