I'm with Kibby and Keon on this one. We do NOT need anymore standalone sequels, reboots, and so on to further confuse mainstream audiences (and even some fans). The series has become super sloppy as it is. No need to further complicate things. |

Seriously TCM and Halloween both have several different timelines and universes its almost like a comic book franchise. I'm hoping this forms at least a new trilogy or even if they end it at the next one and have The original, 3D, and the sequel all be a little trilogy- thats fine. But no more stand alones for this series. |

If Leatherface were to die in this universe, then we've always got Leatherface from that alternate dimension on "Fringe". Leatherface chases Anna Torv? I'm there! |

I'm 99% sure we aren't getting a sequel even if it makes 100 mill. Big studios only use slashers like these to make a nice chunk of change and thats about it then they let the series stay dead until they want that little extra again 8 or so years later. Lionsgate is trying to get away from horror anyway. To be frank- we're being used. Mark my words they'll make their millions and give us nothing in return. Its no longer the 80s. They don't want a series that has an 80% drop off second week of release representing them and when you think about it...can you blame them? |

I'd agree with the last post except for one thing: the changed film business climate. Let's say you ran a business and were doing a project that you hoped to turn a profit. Now suppose the federal government came up to you and said, "As long as you perform your project in area X or area Y, you can deduct up to $15 million right off your taxes." And then suppose the state government said, "Do your project in our state and we'll give you a check for up to 50 percent of the production costs of your project." Suddenly a $15 million project becomes not only a complete tax write off, but also you get a check for $7.5 million. That's what filming in a "distressed" are of a state will get you. Let's look at a sequel to TC3D. Assuming these rules apply, and it made $30 million in its first nine days of release and cost $15 million, to the governemnt you'd only owe taxes on $15 million of that (ther rest is written off). Oh, and you've got a check in your pocket for $7.5 million dollars to cover those taxes. So the whole project really cost you $7.5 million net, but you've made four times that already. Show me any other business that can pull that off, and I'll be astonished. It's like a license to print money. As for why horror benefits from this more than other genres, the secret is budget. The federal write-off cuts off at $15 million. That's often more than a horror film's budget. An action adventure movie might cost $100 Million+, a romantic comedy maybe $50 million, but they only get a write-off of $15 million. A (compared to other genres) horror movie can proceed to take a tax write-off on the whole amount of money. Which looks better to you? All of this has come about in just the last couple of years, so that's what different compared to, saying, making another TCM movie in 2007 compared to 2013. |

But you dont think a direct sequel to this, would be....kind of stupid? I mean, whats gonna happen? She helps him kill people? Sorry, but watching Alexandra Daddario wack people with sledgehammers is silly :P |

Eh, I kinda agree. I would like references to this film, but I don't want to just see Heather killing people, lol. |

Who said anything about her wacking people with sledgehammers? There's lots of story left to tell here. Lets not forget all the family drama what with Burt's son most likely seeking revenge. To be frank Leatherface(and Heather) killing sexy twenty somethings is the least thing I want them to focus on if a sequel did happen. Heck they could even make it to where Heather isn't helping him kill but is trying to get him to stop and Leatherface rebells and goes on a rampage leaving everyone unsafe including Heather. Or they can do all of the above. Point is there's lots of places we can go with the sequel instead of what you keep bringing up lol. I mean seriously I'd understand your opinion more if you felt like there was no where to go and the whole series should end but to completely ignore a game changer like this in favor of another reboot is silly. Having Heather become the new "Mother Sawyer" of sorts would be nice. Have the next film take place directly after TC3D, then everything after that can come sometime later with an older, matured Heather in her 40s+ played by someone else. I don't know, I just like the idea. I've always preferred older females in the family to the younger ones. :P |
