Could it have been better? Sure. But this is Texas Chainsaw, not Anna Karenina. I try to put the issues aside and enjoy it for what it is, which is a popcorn-munching rollercoaster ride of a slashfest.

Officially number one at the USA box office, passing up the Hobbit and Django Unchained. It brought in $23 million, which is nearly 3 times production costs. After this, it's all gravy. Think of it this way. Imagine if you bought a house with the intention of "flipping" it (reselling quickly) and making a profit. Do you think you could get three times what you paid for it? Highly unlikely. And you can't even sniff that kind of return on the stock market. Lionsgate and Millenium are laughing all the way to the bank. Let the sequels...commence.

There are only three or four likeable characters (mainly Heather, Kenny, and the Sheriff) and a couple of the deaths are pretty underwhelming.

Let's not count our chickens (sequels) before they hatch (get filmed) just yet. My Bloody Valentine 3D, the NOES remake, and Friday The 13th (2009) both made more than Texas Chainsaw 3D did and the sequels never happened.

The favorable tax and rebate situation for film companies that has developed in the last couple of years changes the playing field. When you can now expense the entire production budget of a slasher, PLUS get a rebate on sometimes up to half your expenses, it doesn't take much to turn a profit anymore. Lionsgate is flush with cash thanks to "the Hunger Games", and that situation will only increase with the sequels coming out. They are looking to build a profitable "side franchise", and TCM fits that bill.
I may be reading too much into this, but Yahoo Movies is reporting that the "TC3D" sequel will pick up "pretty much where the last one left off". Wondering if that means next day, week, month, a year? How much screen time would you like to see elapse between TC entries?

It all depends, really. For the NEXT film I would like for their to be a gap of at least a few months or so. After that, anything can happen.

I had a feeling Heather and Kenny would be the only likeable ones out of the friends lol. Kenny seems like he will be my favourite, so I hope he lives for at least a while.

I know it's my own fault for posting in the thread for a movie I haven't seen yet, but Kibby, would you be able to use spoiler tags when discussing spoilers, since not everyone has seen the movie yet. If you need help on how to use them, just ask. :)

Lucky Twis!
