This has to be one of the greatest horror prequels of all time. It's gory, brutal, and hard to watch. It has great characters, good acting, and it's incredibly haunting. 10/10 Easily my favorite in the series.

9.5 for me, mainly because I didn't like that Chrissie was the lead lol.

Dean > Bailey > Eric >> Female Biker> Male Biker >>> Chrissie. I <3 all 6 and all but... meh Chrissie was sooo stereotypical.
Dean, Bailey, & Eric are all in my top 5 characters of the series =U I also find Dean the most relateable and, in all honesty, I think he's the best TCM character ever

Just rewatched this with my surround sound hooked up, and it was such a great experience. So intense. This movie does such a great job at delivering different aspects of horror films that make them scary. All four of the lead cast are flawless. There is a lot of suspense, and there is some really great dialogue and monologue. My favorite exchange is between Hoyt and Chrissie at the dinner table. And that ending chase scene... A-FUCKING-MAZING! The scores and music are so great and perfectly placed through out the film. I think this film is so perfect. <3

I don't get why it originally got a NC-17 (I think). I looked up the differences and it was nothing worse than a Saw film.

Watched this last night and it was amazing. <3 I loved all the characters (though I agree Chrissie was stereotypical) I liked how everything was setting up for the original remake, and the ending was really shocking.

This movie has one flaw....
Chrissie had no business outliving Dean.

Other than that I think it's brilliant and basically flawless <3 :)

EDIT: LOLYay! Turns out Dean has a last name too <3 Eric & Dean Hill. More than I can say for Chrissie and Erin :P

So I totally watched this for the 3rd (I think) time last night. I honestly love it more Everytime I see it. I loved all the characters in this movie (Even my homegurl Alex <3 And ofc Luda Mae and Dean are flawless) Another thing I loved was JUST how different the leads were and watching them grow as characters <333 Serioulsy, not one of those 6 characters felt like a clone to me, and though Chrissie felt a little stereotypical, I thought she was insanely realistic as well. And we aaaaaall know how much I love Dean. His death always makes me sad and heartbroken that he dies :( That said, in some ways I do feel like its the perfect send off for him (though I'd have overall preferred for him to bite it in the car)

I think my favorite kill is probably between Dean and Bailey. I know the others were nastier (particularly the male biker's whose name I always forget D: ) But like.... There's something about the simplicity and emotional impact on me that these deaths have. Bailey's is simple yet chillingly brutal and heartbreaking, especially after all the girl had gone through. She had just totally lost it, and it's disturbing how, in some ways, dying was probably the best thing that could happen to her. Even if she lived, Bailey would totally have lost her mind ala Sally from the original :(

Then Dean's always makes me sad because I love his character and the fact he'd have LIVED if he left Chrissie to die =U I'm glad he didn't lol, but it makes me wish he just fled and left her behind. And again I love how simple it is with Leatherface just impaling him with a chainsaw while still being chillingly brutal. No complicated set up like Eric'a and Chrissie's, no over the topness like the Biker's. Just a harsh, brutal, simple, sad (for me anyways) death. That and I think it's one of the very few ones to CLEARLY show the chainsaw going through the person. Eric's and Chrissie's seem to rely on camera trickery.

Oh, and I love that the film takes the time to develop the characters properly before they die <3 I wanted to see them all live.

10/10, flawless as is. I think my only change would be to have Chrissie die in the slaughterhouse with Dean making it to the car. Small gripe though
Maybe I'm crazy, but I honestly don't get how anyone could say the original is better than this =U

And I DON'T get why people slam it for focusing on too much gore. X_______________X

I was surprised at how good this was when I first saw it back in the day. It had some great, gory kills (which surprised me after the remakes fairly tame killings) and I liked most of the characters. I actually agree with Repo in that Dean was the best character and I was rooting for him to get away and survive haha. Oh, and the male biker is named Holden.

No, not that Holden.

Lol.... That was unnecessary
But sorry (to John) today is just... Really sucking O_O
Bad mood since morning
Bombing two tests in a row (that I studied my butt off for)

Blegh. Today sucks

And no. Beginning has flaws, as do the rest
Chrissie surviving over Dean is NOT a flaw. Js.
Actually that's NOT what I meant XD

It isn't terrifying. There's nothing that really is scary. A couple scenes disturbed me an made me uncomfortable though
It lacks the gritty feel of the original. I mean... It's miles better than the remake as far as this goes but it's still not the same
Chrissie's death is nonsensical. How did Leatherface somehow beat her to the car?
Chrissie herself, while solid, WAS a very stereotypical character in an otherwise non stereotypical cast
The fact that some of the characters in the remake family are missing without explanation
The lack of a connection to the remake. It really needed more connection beyond origins. As is, it's a sequel with a couple moments making it a prequel
Not really a flaw I guess, but I'd have liked to see family members beyond Leatherface and Hoyt kill people

There's plenty more too lol. Most of these just don't bug me all thaaaaaaat much XD I'd say, looking back, it and the original are definitely the best two qualitywise in like totally opposite ways if that makes sense. I guess I just don't get why some people act as though the original is on this untouchable pedastals (Moreso on IMDB where I've been on too much lately......)
And you know, I do think making Chrissie the lead counts as a flaw. Super stereotypical lead in modern times=Flaw IMO. I just.... Don't think there's any sort of excuse to not bring anything particularly new to the final girl archetype, especially in this day and age.

Meh, tbh although it is sterotypical, I don't really mind Chrisste making it to the end. It's not like she lasted THAT much longer then Dean anyway, lol :P
