Many folks forget that the original, aside from the chainsaw chase and the dinner table scene onward, was gritty and sick but had lulls of intensity. Now, of course the original made up for that with the wildest dinner table scene of them all, IMHO, but TCM: TB could have even ramped up the intensity even more with regards to Bailey.

I...actually couldn't agree with you more, Kib. O_O
I love Bailey to death and she was probably my favorite of this film but it definitely could have shown a lot more. Maybe not the rape, but other things. Instead, she goes from being tied up and screaming to being at the table and severely injured. We don't need to be shown EVERYTHING but being shown SOMETHING while leaving the rest up to our minds goes a long way.

I'm not sure. I kinda liked how we didn't actually see what happened to her, and just saw her looking all fucked up at the table. Kinda leaves more to the mind.

You wouldn't have to "show" all the torture and such. One way filmamkers used to do was to shoot a scene in silhouette. All we could see were shadows, but we could still get the gist of what was going on, and we could still here Bailey scream and moan in anguish. That way, your imagination can still work visually, while your mind can imagine based on her screams the pain and terror she is going through.

Just like my villains as mean as possible, and like my heroines to truly go through hell. Makes you cheer for them more, or be more saddened when they eventually die. Horror films are, at their essence, about feeling and emotion and experience, and the more heightened the experience, the better, IMHO.

I really, really like this idea. I also totally agree with the second paragraph!

I agree Tay. It was smart how they did it. The movie was disturbing and open enough. Somethings you do leave to the imagination otherwise it'll be redundant and unneeded. We know she was tortured- I don't have to be spoonfed everything.

Imagination is a fine line to walk when dealing with a visual medium. I have no problem with what they did with Bailey. Guess sometimes when it comes to horror, I can be a greedy jerk. But I also draw the line, I do have limits. I think Hostel II was just, in some parts, just too too much.

If you ever want to see a way to do a horrifying torture scene without ever really showing a ton of the torture, but showing just enough to make you squirm, watch the movie "Marathon Man". It makes "Is It Safe?" one of he creepiest lines ever in cinema history, IMHO.
