So my Uncle is looking to get a new computer sometime soon, and the other day I suggested building his own, however his biggest issue was not knowing what to get, as most people have problems with as well, so I said I'd pick out a few things, and this is what I've come up with:

- Case.

- CPU

- Motherboard

- Power Supply

- RAM

- HDD

- Optical Drive

Price range is around $1000, the computer itself is somewhere between $800 I believe.

What do you guys think?

He's in his 30s-40s I believe, and doesn't care for a GTX580 like most of us, so that's why I left out a graphics card. He just wants something that's fast, as his current computer is getting slower.

Few questions. One, are you going to get some sort of low end graphics card at least, please don't do on-board. Every time someone uses on-board video God punches a pony.

Seriously, have you taken into account the cost of an OS, Mouse/Keyboard, and Display, or even speakers/headphones. Not sure if any of those items are being salvaged from a previous PC or not.

Compare to what you can configure here though... http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/system/Mega_Special_III

Ponies better watch out.

As for the graphics card, he doesn't use his PC for gaming. So instead of including a dedicated one, the on board graphics from Intel are more than enough to suit his needs.

I have thought about the OS, and he has told me he wants a new monitor as well. If you add those things to the above, it totals up to around $1029.90 on Newegg. He didn't mention needing anything else other than a new monitor.

I just checked out that site you linked, and it seemed to me that a similar setup is around the same price as what I'd be getting from Newegg.

I'm sure I could put together a similar setup that might not be as good, albeit save a $100 or so for a graphics card and whatnot, but with the way I shop, I prefer to get the best possible parts, and not cheap out whenever possible.

This is for my Uncle as well, so he can always get a graphics card if he ever plans to do some hardcore gaming on his PC.

well if it is for just for gaming then yea that is a good set but your missing a few things
for one you will need a DVI VGA cable for the monitor

DVI cable
VGA cable

and if this is your first time or if you uncle is putting it together i recommend a anti-static wrist cable

anti-static wrist strap
that will help ground you to the computer to make shure you don't damage the electonical parts like cpu,ram,etc...

you will also need a couple e-sata cables for your optical drive and one for just incase the harddrive does not come with one
e sata cable

so yea just a few things but overall a good choice you have choosen so far
