HISTORY:

Growing up, Michael Octavius Anders never really had prolonged encounters with demons, nor A.N.G.E.L. until his adolescent years. He had been raised in a relatively peaceful part of New Haven to a loving mother and father. Andrew and Felicia Anders took great care in raising their son to be the best he could be, and thus, he had excelled at most school-related things, and had a strong sense of justice and kindness drilled into him.

This would culminate in an unfortunate incident when he was 12, where he came upon a group of human teenagers ganging up on a demon in a seedy part of the city. With the demon's help, they managed to beat the teenagers back and drive them away. The two remained friends for a few months, until, while waiting for his demon friend at an arcade, Anders saw him be attacked by members of A.N.G.E.L., the members subduing the demon and taking him away. He would never see the demon again after that, and he could only guess what happened to him.

Despite this, he didn't think much of A.N.G.E.L.'s activities, even though he heard the stories about them and what they did. He was in the mindset that if not all demons were evil, not all of A.N.G.E.L were evil as well. As such, he continued to remain neutral on the matter of demons and A.N.G.E.L.

At 20, he joined the New Haven Police Department. He became an exceptional officer, receiving several commendations, although refusing any position other than corporal. It was at this time that he became extremely interested with firearms and weaponry. By the time he was 23, he was able to take apart, clean, and repair various firearms, including any handguns, shotguns, assault and sniper rifles, and sub-machine guns quickly and efficiently.

It was at this time that he became involved in a skirmish between A.N.G.E.L. and some demons. Initially called upon to help oversee a protest in the city, Michael and several other officers eventually were witness to an assault by A.N.G.E.L. elements mixed in the crowd against several nearby demons. With the innocent protestors caught in the crossfire, Michael and the rest of the responding NHPD officers took initiative and escorted the survivors away while the battle raged. Several survivors had to be left behind due to their being unable to run alongside the full squad cars, so Michael doubled back to help them. Grabbing a dead A.N.G.E.L. member's rifle, he covered the remaining survivors, attacking anyone who attacked the fleeing humans. Singlehandedly, he managed to take down nearly a dozen A.N.G.E.L. members, and some demons too. At one point of the battle, his clothes were set on fire from a demon's attack, but he continued the attack. People would later say that he himself seemed like a demon, engulfed in fire and spewing lead death from the gun.

The battle ended with the rest of the combatants killing each other. Human casualties were minimal, though Michael was hospitalized for two weeks due to his injuries, which included bullet wounds and burns. His friends and fellow officers started calling him Gunblazer, and he developed a fascination for fire, though never to the point where he could be considered a pyromaniac.

He swore to himself that as long as he was able, he would do everything in his power to make sure the city was a safe place for anyone, demon, human, or otherwise, who wished for peace. He wouldn't tolerate anyone who would deliberately hurt those who didn't deserve it. When A.N.G.E.L. started garnering support from the city, Michael was wary of changes to police policy, but with the help of anti-A.N.G.E.L. supporters within the department, he was able to help prevent any major changes, wanting to keep the law from being corrupt.

Regardless, he is still a bit wary of demons, mainly for their destructive power. he had seen and felt firsthand what even the minor ones were capable of. but given that humanity hasn't been erased from existence yet, demons couldn't be as evil as the stories A.N.G.E.L. spread made them out to be. As for A.N.G.E.L., he hasn't declared himself anti-A.N.G.E.L., but he is keeping a close eye on their public doings, knowing that A.N.G.E.L., like the powerful demons, were capable of enormous evil.
