For book readers only, this is a really, REALLY interesting theory about partial end games, and motivations. It's also backed up by a HUGE mistake made by HBO, which is spoiler tagged. TOTAL SPOILERS at this link, and under the tags, about future events, so beware.

Wow, that was a good episode. I was shocked an hour had passed when it was over.

So, Theon is that brainwashed that he'd stay with the guy who cut his dick off?

Tyrion's trial by battle involves him dueling with someone? I know Shea was pissed, but she really sold him up the river.

Khaleesi seems to have her hands full.

Ugh, Mariah. That was so sad. His sister came to rescue him and he refused to go. Then the creepy guy gave him a bath.

Oh damn, the creepy sex guy is going to be Tyrion's champion!

And Littlefinger just chucked Liza in a hole.

Great episode.

Lysa flew! Through the Moon Door, where she tried to send Tyrion.

Well, damn. That sucked. I was liking Oberyn. And Tyrion's going to need lots of help to survive now.

Thanks, Mariah. I can't believe there are only two episodes left.

Geez, the bad guys always seem to win.

You should really read the books. But wait until he finally finishes them, if he ever does.

The books are huge. I don't recommend them to anyone because he STILL hasn't finished the series, two more (at least) to go. He had to tell HBO the broad strokes, and some minor strokes of the ending before he got his payoff though, so at least HBO WILL end the damn saga.

It's hard to actually describe his writing. At times it's just so brilliant it takes your breath away. I kind of feel that, if he had a strong editor, he would be truly great. Then he goes off on these boring, time wasting tangents about various histories of various families and introduces entirely NEW characters who probably have nothing to do with much of anything that has impact on the ending...

So it's a love/hate thing. Reading about the show gives me clues about what will happen, since if they include it in the show, it's likely it will eventually have a pay off. Or who knows, maybe it just made for interesting show scenes. I will say the sex is very much overblown on the show, a lingering look at a partially bared breast in the books becomes a full out orgy when HBO is done.

However, you may wait chapters or even entire books to hear about some of the "lead" characters, and by the time he gets back to them, you've probably completely forgotten where they were when he left off a thousand pages ago. Westeros.com was a life saver to me. I could just type in the name of someone I ignored because we'd probably never see him again and remember who he was because SUDDENLY! there he is again, doing something important.

Such detail...and some really compelling writing.

The show, of course, can't simply ignore someone like Arya for hundreds of pages, she's pretty much on each week, ditto the other characters, but in the books characters disappear from the pages frequently, and reappear many, many hours of reading later.

One of the issues I first had with the show was not being able to figure out who anyone was. And then a new character would appear!

Westeros.com is good for that. They tend to arrange characters by book, so you can read as much or as little as you want. (It's REALLY hard to not just keep reading though!)

Also, the show has changed some of the character's names, and certainly many of their actions. Some to simplify the story, many to add tons of sex, and some to act as information dumps for the audience.
