I saw it andme, but I didn't see your post until now. I'm watching this season after missing the last few - I honestly didn't know this show was still on until I read this thread.

Bill's greenhorn that was clocked by the crab pot is probably going to make if he still wants to after this trip. Did Bill ever say why he was running a four man deck besides more $$$ for everyone? Seems kind of dumb since his last two trips it's meant going with a three man deck instead.

I only heard Bill talk about the money end of why he's running the boat with minimal crew. That's nice for all the deckhand's paychecks but, we've seen how shitty it becomes when someone decides to quit or gets hurt. That poor kid. I felt so sorry for him and sure hope he got to the clinic when they were offloading.

I just can't with the Cornelia Marie. First off, there is no way in hell Josh had the money to buy that boat on his own. It's owned by 'Harris Productions' or something and there are most likely at least a couple investors. If he'd say something about people having put out a lot of money for him to see if he could make a go of fishing, it would be easier to stomach. His acting like he's single handedly carrying on what Phil started just isn't believable. And, all the Phil flashbacks are just too much. I had to laugh when they dropped pots in Phil's favorite spots and came up with crab too dirty to keep. Now, that would have been a good flashback. Phil saying you have to earn it, it's not just dropped into your lap. The only part of the CM that I found believable was when Josh mentioned that they didn't have much quota and if they proved they could find the crab, they could maybe work out a deal for more.

Thanks lovesnark. I think Bill should re-think that four man deck thing.

On the CM, I completely agree about Josh. I always thought those boys would try and live off Phil's legacy. I do know that just the crabbing/fishing license (forget the boat) is worth a fortune and can be inherited but I don't know if that was in Phil's name or not. The boat is probably worth a million dollars too and Josh and Jake probably inherited Phil's share. It's like saying you own your house - it's really you and the bank but no one says that.

I hate the flashbacks, it just keeps trying to tie Josh to Phil when in reality the contrast between the two is striking. Don't even get me started on Jake.

Here's a link to a 2011 interview with the captain that took over after Phil died. Jake and Josh treated him like shit and ended the season early because of it.

In the article, it states that Josh and Jake own 25% of the CM and that what they own is debt, they have no equity and the boat is in awful shape.

Josh has to have some really deep pockets backing him. The boat underwent a huge overhaul before it went out for salmon last fall.

Someone posted this at PTV. Cracked me up.

Quote:

Phil Harris was spawned from the loins of Poseidon and any of his offspring lucky enough to bear a Y chromosome must fulfill their great crab fishing destiny or we will all be assumed by the Kraken.

I actually really liked Phil, but Discovery is making his legacy a joke.

That quote is awesome lovesnark. Spot on.

Thanks for the article link. Even now, I tend to agree with that captain's assessment that neither one of those boys are fisherman. Or want to be. They wanted to be on TV. I think Josh may feel some sort of self manufactured pressure to be a crab captain and I just hope it goes away before he kills someone. I was so relieved to see a real captain on the CM.

Now Sig's daughter...she looks like a fisherman. Fisherwoman? I'llbet she'd run rings around Phil's sons.

I can't wait until Sigs daughter is actually working on the Northwestern.

Well, that was an interesting episode. No doubt that Mandy got off easy, but she seems to be hanging in there. Jake came across kind of petty. He was given all sorts of chances, wasn't he? I find the Hansen's very endearing.

Yikes....the poor guy on the Wizard could have been killed. Did Monte kind of try to shift the blame on the accident?

The Saga is just a big mess....

No shit! Let's see......Everyone leaves during the offload and the boom is in the way so they can't get the crabs off the boat. The processor has a line of other boats waiting to offload and isn't happy that Elliot didn't make sure his boat was ready for them. New guy tries to help and causes an expensive amount of damage. But, it's not Elliot's fault and he tells the camera the new guy should have been kissing his ass for saving his life and giving him a job.

Please! Crab gods, don't have Discovery ask Elliot back next year!

I just couldn't believe that. The new guy (the Elliot saved from the Bering Sea!!) seemed fairly intelligent. Whatever possessed him to operate the controls? He knows Elliot is going to flip his lid. It just didn't seem true, but I guess it happened. At least Elliot wasn't off drinking. No way this guy deserves a boat.

They went easy on Mandy, but she was pretty good.

Elliott brings his girlfriend on the boat to replace the guy he fired! And develops a mysterious illness.

Elliot is gross. There probably aren't even enough antibiotics in Dutch Harbor for that guy. I feel sorry for his crew.

I was both distracted and amused by Sid's consistent bed-head hair in the wheelhouse. I thought it was so sweet when he went down on the deck with Mandy. I always liked that guy and even more now. I bet he is a really good dad.

ETA the word enough. I know Dutch Harbor is big enough to have antibiotics. Ooops.

Mysterious? STD's come to mind. I haven't seen the show yet.

Sig and Edgar have always been my favorites.

Wild Bill is nuts, Keith goes up close to Russia, why? Ok, he got a lot of crab, but so did Sig (as usual). Why take those chances so far north?

Lenny was unbelievable with broken ribs. Why is it that I think there are loads of uppers on those boats?

The only boat I'd step foot on for one minute is the Northwestern. And maybe Elliot's. They are the only ones who always take safety first. Plus Sig is one handsome Nordic dude.

Elliot is the biggest, disgusting pig on TV. He didn't fool me for one second with his complaint of bloody urine and back pain. It's the oldest trick in the book to try to get pain meds because it's classic kidney stone symptoms. I laughed my ass off when the doctor/medic guy gave him a bottle of antibiotics and I was really hoping he'd make him do a UA. I'll bet my TV that next week we see him complaining of increasing back pain and more bloody urine.

Him not being able to stay off his phone to the idiot women who'll have anything to do with him was bad enough. How distracted is he going to be knowing his latest stupid girl is waiting to service him in in bunk? Barf! Please, Discovery, get rid of him. I wish his crew would all walk away and leave him at the dock.

I felt bad for the guys on the Northwestern. Mandy isn't getting treated like a greenhorn because Sig's scared to death and they're having to pick up the slack. I hope Sig tells her that he loves her but he can't handle her being on the boat because it's just too dangerous and he can't do his job the way he needs to. I like her and the kid has a lot of guts but having her on the boat just isn't good for the rest of the crew, including Sig.
