Oh yes! But she's semi-normal at least. The kids are remarkably well-adjusted for the odd situation they're in.

They just bought four houses with no visible means of income. And Mariah's house was the only one not ready for Xmas. So Mariah was not amused.

I saw them once. Polygamy as practiced by Mormons makes me physically ill. I have multiple dozens of books on it, researching because it's part of my history (barely, most of my relatives were not polygamous, even though they were some of the first in Utah, and joined the church pre-Illinois.)

This show white washes all of it from the recaps I've read, and it's such bullshit than any of this, or men as Gods and women as chattel to bear children makes me sick. Women can't even get into heaven unless their husbands pull them in, so they are completely under the thumb of their priesthood holder.

/off my soapbox

Yeah, they certainly don't address any of that. You come away from it wondering why in the hell the wan would have agreed to that arrangement.

That's the thing. I know EXACTLY why they agreed, and it's sick as fuck.

That's why I can't watch this show. There are some excellent books out there from women who left polygamy, and lots of other books about the male dominance of the LDS church. These people ARE LDS, the one Joseph Smith and Brigham Young preached. The current LDS church conveniently had "revelations" when the USA was going to seize all of their property.

Anyway, it makes me furious. Big Love was more "real" than this "reality show."

I still watch! Mariah is just like her mama...thinks she's so entitled. What a brat!

I think I watch this show because it makes me appreciated my monogamous relationship and how good my life is!!!!!!

Yes, Cajun! And Meri needs the huge house with the wet bar? And don't get me started on Meri's shade of foundation.

Didn't you think Kody would have the new bed put together before Janelle got there?

New season started. I'm still unsure what Robyn is so busy with that she needs help? Are there that many people who want to buy their crap?

Ha! A description of one of their products on their website.

This here earrings is a work of art. Obviously grammar wasn't part of polygamy.

Hey why a wet bar if they are Mormons? They can't drink can they?

People speculate that Meri has a wee bit of a drinking problem. She goes look pretty rough.

I think Meri also has a sense of entitlement. She lives alone in that big house, and gets the same amount of $$ as the rest of them.

Wonder who they think will buy their products?

Ha! I read a post that said in profile, Robyn looks like a Kitchen Witch.

They're back! Watched half of it last night.

2 of the girls graduated. For some reason, they went to different high schools. We were treated to another Brown Family lip synch performance.

Janelle talked to the therapist about some bad blood between her and Meri. Hopefully more to come on that.

"My Husband's Not Gay" follows four men living in Salt Lake City, Utah, who don't identify themselves as homosexual despite having an attraction to men..
It's on TLC obviously

Preview here:
http://www.tlc.com/tv-shows/my-husbands-not-gay.htm

Suppressed homosexuality, uber defensive wives, and just general mormon antics. I will be tuning in. TLC knows what this country needs to see!
(above is post from Sucks.)

This is the next one coming out.

As far as drinking, it depends on their church. IF they follow the LDS beliefs before polygamy was renounced in 1890, as many of these LDS off shoot groups do, it's a little bit of a grey area. All revelations since polygamy was renounced would be rejected if they do, including the ban on people of color holding the priesthood, or being allowed in the temples (etc.) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1890_Manifesto

The "Word of Wisdom" (which is the part that has to do with drinking/diet) was written more as a guideline to healthy living for a healthy soul, so no caffeine, booze, very little meat except in winter when other foods weren't available, etc. It was more self restraint that "law" back then. A few decades ago the mainstream LDS church changed that, and now you can't enter the temples, etc. if you violate the booze/caffeine stuff, although I've heard no mention of the meat and other stuff in the Word of Wisdom keeping you from being a full member.

So, the original LDS did have coffee and the occasional drink, but drunkenness or excess was strongly discouraged. TLC has deliberately avoided actually talking about what they believe in, other than multiple wives, so who knows?

By the way, the real reason these "off shoot" churches began was many people had wives and kids they were supposed to set aside, once the church avoided war by settling with the US government. Many felt that the leaders of the church had sold out their prophet's revelations for political expediency. Also, the main groups were originally in sparsely settled areas, barely getting by, away from SLC. If they left most of their wives and kids, and only kept the first, most of those wives/kids would have starved to death, been homeless. They barely kept roofs over their heads as it was, and then only because they all lived together.

Richer mormon men were able to keep their families a secret, since they could afford separate houses in SLC, so they really DID continue to practice polygamy, but they could afford to hide it.

TMI?

I was going to tape the Gay husband show, but I was already taping two other shows.

Interesting about the drinking and the hidden other families.

Meri, one of the Sister Wives, insisted on having a wet bar in her living room. People were speculating that she was hitting the sauce.

Meri looks like a closet alkie.

I haven't watched the SW in a long time. Just too frustrating to look at him. Is Janelle the one who looks like she is done with all the shit but realized that TLC is easy money? The acct?
I want to watch the closet gay mormon shows too. Gawker did a review of it too.

Yeah. Janelle is the smart one. He just pissed her off by wanting to visit a "friend" who has been talking trash about their family.
