I liked it too, CajunMama!
It still had all the old plot twists. And I wish Bobby wasn't always so damn honorable.

I just googled Southfork (I visited it back in '89, never thinking I'd live in the Dallas area) and apparently I live only 11 miles from Southfork.

Dallas: TNT Series Premiere Sets Ratings Record

Published:June 15, 2012

TNT ratings for DallasThe Ewings are back — in a big way. The two-hour premiere of TNT’s new Dallas TV series drew big numbers — an average of 6.86 million total viewers with a 1.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic. It was the most-watched program of the night — beating everything else on cable and the broadcast networks.

Dallas had the best demo ratings on cable and was tied for second place with some of the broadcast network fare. FOX’s So You Think You can Dance drew a 2.5 rating and a repeat of CSI on CBS also drew a 1.5 rating.

Ok so I didn't watch the original....Bobby is Patrick Duffy right? And Jon Ross's mother is his sister right? So Jon Ross broke up Jesse Metcalfe's relationship with the cook's daughter?

Why is Bobby so vehemently against oil?

And JR Ewing (Larry Hagman) - is the head of it all? He came back from the brink to take down Bobby?

Oh an looks like the conservator is in cahoots with JR? Lots of twists indeed.

I wonder how much they had to pay to use Adele's song in the end of the premier episode? LoL. I think I'm in for the summer.

Wait - I'm watching the 2nd episode and Jon Ross is calling JR his dad? WTF? Can someone tell me who's who?

ETA - JH Christ I have it all screwed up. At least TNT was good enough to put a family tree up on the website.

Family Tree

Soap channel is defunct I thought?

JR is just so old that I can't see him having a son Jon Ross' age.

Does Hulu have old episodes of Dallas? I know they have old ones of other shows.

Shopper, here ya go:
JR is John Ross' dad. His mom is Sue Ellen. Sue Ellen had serious issues with alcohol in the original, and JR was a cheatin' man, but they always had chemistry. Sue Ellen was supposed to have been a beauty queen when she met JR.

Bobby is Christopher's dad. His wife is Christopher's step mom. Word is Victoria Principal (who played Pam ... Bobby's wife...on Dallas and drove Andy Gibb to drugs in real life) may be coming back, since Pam "isn't dead".

Cliff Barnes is Pamela's sister, and JR's arch enemy. Goes back to a land dispute between the Barnes and Ewing family. Cliff was a DA and always trying to get the Ewings through the legal system. When he couldn't, he slept with Sue Ellen.

Ray Krebs is the Ewing boys' half brother... illegit son of Jock Ewing (JR and Bobby's dad). He handles the ranch work.

Shopper, does this give you some background? There are lots of plots twists. It started in 77-78 and was on Friday nights. I tried to keep up, but I was young, going out on Friday nights, and then busy with a young family. But I still remember some highlights. The interesting thing is our economy sucked when Dallas started, and everyone loved to see rich JR get his. Kind of like now... shows like Revenge love to show the rich suffer like we are. (Except it's so much easier to suffer when you have money!)

disco - thanks for the Dallas Primer.

I just did a little googling - they reported SoapNet was going to go dark March 23rd - to make room for yet another 24 hour Disney show. But I guess those reports were premature according to about.com.

All these old men have TERRIBLE teeth. So damn yellow. It's really distracting.

Oh, the original Dallas was so good. I think everyone loved JR. Yes he was rich, but he had earned his money through being cagey and beating everyone at the game. Bobby was gorgeous then. And Barbara Bel Geddes played the matriarch, mother to Bobby and Jr. She was fabulous. Her husband Jock was also a good actor and quite a presence.

The rich didn't live then like they do now. After all, Southfork was a cottage by modern standards, he didn't fly off to the south of France, Sue Ellen didn't go to Fashion Week. They didn't summer in the Hamptons. Southfork was a working ranch and JR had oil.

I think everyone liked to see JR win against Ray Krebs the incompetent, and the others. He was so devious and clever, you had to root for him.

True, true and true, weaver.
And as I was saying to Mr. Disco, times have changed soooo much since then.
The cost of oil has skyrocketed, the drug cartels are more powerful, Al Queda, Homeland Security... lots of plot lines they could go with now.
And it was amazing how JR ALWAYS came out smelling like a rose.
And yes! Bobby was HOT back in the day!

ETA: Just watching Wendy Williams and she reports that Victoria Principal doesn't feel she needs to come back to Dallas, since she is pulling in lots of money from her skin care system (reportedly 200 million/yr) and doesn't need to act anymore. Frankly, Pam was one of my least favorite characters, anyway.

I can't believe she's making that much money. She did so much plastic surgery last time I saw her on Tv I barely recognized her. Did she marry a derm or plastic surgeon IRL?

For some reason I remember she married, or had a long time boyfriend that was a derm... or a plastic surgeon. Isn't it sad how I remember useless trivia?
I haven't seen pictures of her, or seen her on TV for a long time.
