Oh I think Carrie has the chops to sing. I think it's more of a don't remake a classic type of issue. TWOP people love to find anything to whine about. I think Broadwayworld.com may have a commentary going as well.

Interesting CCC - the folks at TWOP are all bitching about the lack of Broadway talent in the kids roles. I figured you'd know the scoop.

I think it will be a hit for the ratings at least b/c everyone tunes in for the curiosity factor of it being live.

Didn't realize how many folks out there hated Carrie. Talks about how 'vacant' her eyes are and how her singing sounds like yodeling. Oh well- I'll be there with bells on..maybe not live, but def DVR at the very least.

I'll probably watch.

I love the original movie though, but I bet they do well, and it's live.

Shopper - it's funny. The youngest one - is a pro but hasn't done b'way. Gretl. She couldn't get an agency appt so she had to go to the open call her. Her mom played an orphan in Annie when she was a child. She has a big manager here in NY and she lives in Westchester. This manager books tons of b'way kids. The eldest I think is a big pro and they brought her in. One of the boys may have come from the open call as well. The rest are all pros but perhaps not from B'way - they all came from agency appts and NOT the open call. So in other words they all did musical theater productions elsewhere. So funny that TWOP is blasting away over there. Most of the kids in Matilda now never did a former b'way production. They are kids and they have to start somewhere. Those ladies know nothing. I started watching the "making of SOM" on youtube this morning. Just got thru the first clip. The man with the beard is the guy I know.

Of the friends that I knew that were called back one was on B'way and one did pro regional theater. One had reddish brown hair and the other light blonde. They picked no light blonds. I have a feeling they didn't want them to look like Carrie since she's not supposed to be the mom so they went with different coloring making up the family. They both had appointments. Besides totally different coloring they have entirely different voices. One is soprano and sweet and the other a big belter. Bet those TWOP ladies think they all came from the open call and were amateurs - lol. I have to go over there. I'll get bashed. I just signed in again.

I'll add more when I finish the clips.

I also think ratings will be big. Every kid in my dds class is watching. They have been promoting it as a family event so that is just what it will probably be. It may run a little late for the kiddos though - I assume it goes from 8-11

Shopper on TWOP is it only that 2 page comment section? I was wondering if there was another discussion.
Thanks

CCC - I can only locate the 2 page comment posts, but I could have sworn there's another thread somewhere. I think mods got it. It had several pages of posts IIR.

Your take is very interesting.

The oldest guy - the CMU student...they played like he was an open call....ditto with the oldest girl. I am terrible w/ the kid's names, but the couple that does 16 going on 17

She could have been at the open call but that doesn't mean she isn't a pro. There were very limited agency appointments. You can look up her resume - Ariane Reinhart (sp) - she's not new to the stage or the business. I didn't get to watch the last 2 segments. I'll watch after Jeopardy. I have an ALL ALONE NIGHT! So I'm ordering in chicken parm and watching trash. Tell me if you find another thread but I couldn't. I spoke to my friend (one who's dd was one of the finalists) and she thinks Carrie will do great on the singing but may not get the acting on point but then again it's one time and on stage. I'm afraid people will expect the movie on stage which is impossible.

Oh I have to watch closely because there was the open call which they crossed over with the call backs which were also filmed! I saw the callbacks were big and everyone including agency callbacks were together. You couldn't tell at that time who was from which. I can find out = my crazy friend - not involved in this knows everything! I swear she's a detective in her past life. She researches so much info so I don't have to.

ccc in that 'alone' night there 'd better be some trash in the form of HOWIVES. LOL

I'm going to try and look for the other thread. Usually a good bet is to google the name of the show + TWOP.

I know you've discussed it before, but your dd - is she with an agency? Do you think she will continue in the backstage world?

I'm waiting for an email back. You can look Ariane up on IMDB - doesn't list her stage credits but she has a movie coming out.

Yes dd is with Abrams Artists. She just signed with them this summer. I don't know if she'll continue. I ask her all the time if she wants to quit. She says no. I figure it's like a soccer mom but I get to stay inside which I prefer. She is with a manager too and the manager hooked her up with the agent.

And yes I get to watch RHOBH but I heard it's really boring this week. Watching judge judy right now.

From the commercials and the little behind the scenes snippets they have been putting out, Carrie Underwood definitely has the singing chops to be Maria. I do not know that I will watch it however, I kinda burned out on the Sound of Music a few years ago. I watch the start of the movie now just to see that gorgeous scenery!

Here are pics of Arianne - she did an Apple commercial - she probably made enough money off that for at least a year at Barnard. She's very talented

In some of those pics it's amazing how old she looks and in others...very believable as a Von Trapp who is 16 going on 17.

I think she's 19 so that's an easy almost 17 especially in Hollywood's eyes.

I found out more info. Ariane is with our agent. The kid who plays Marta was also at the open call - number 80 something. Not sure if she has an agent but performed up in Westchester in a few plays. 2 boys were at the open call but at least one has a big agent. Many of the understudies were from agency calls. They have to be ready at a moment's notice so they probably wanted pros. I can't imagine having that part. A one nighter and all that work and no Hurrah! unless someone screws up, gets nervous or gets sick. Wonder if they are sitting at home hoping they get ill. I probably would be. I know it sounds evil but after all the same rehearsals and not taking the prize home kind of stinks. Of course it goes on their resume and they get paid the same amount of money but for the TV and DVD sales - which could be a lot - it's like 2nd prize with just as much work.

Sophia Caruso went straight to the finals. She plays the 2nd oldest sister - I forget the name. She was in a production in Seattle or SF during the open call. She was in the finals for Matilda and Annie so it was just a matter of time she made it to B'way. She may have outgrow Matilda by now. They are super script on heights on B'way. If you outgrow a range they don't renew your contract. Kids don't want to grow too much!
