Too funny- TWOP said to discuss if you want whilst it's live. They say they rarely do this. So permission was given to get NBC more press? What do you think? |

The older boy in the SOM is a "cranford kid" from my "town" (where we moved from 6 years ago). I don't know him, but Cranford-ites are excited-LOL. |

Ccc I don't think it is to give the network a pass. They have that policy on all live events...award shows...the Olympics...etc etc regardless of network. Only one they refuse to take that stanse on is home shopping...they can't get that it is freaking live. Dumbasses |

Jake and I are liking it :) It's perfect for my corny fa-la-la-la-la-ing :) Carrie is in good voice, imo- but a LITTLE stiff and nervous, so far. |

yep Ranjake. I can't get on the Audra band wagon. I'm sorry but I don't like her version of My favorite things. |

ok I'm 33 minutes and I don't think I can take much more. Just isn't interesting me and I'm basically only watching for a catastrophe....which I'm pretty sure won't happen. |

I hope it's not a catastrophe - it's kind of like opening night of a musical in previews but you only have one shot. No way it can be perfect. I'm glad you're enjoying it RJ. If I were alone like you Shopper I couldn't watch it which I'm not. I'll till I have to. Worse for me - I'm catching up on old Castles. I missed most of the season and then I'll watch Scandal which if you read the thread I pretty much can't decide if I like it or hate it but I keep watching it. |

Even the play is making me cry. Beautiful, beautiful music. |

Oh my, Carrie was so, so bad. Good singer, bad actress. Lots of wrong in this production, but I applaud the attempt. At least it wasn't another reality show. |

Her acting was good while she was singing, doing lines though, not so much. The kids were adorable. I've never seen the play, and doing this live really captured that "play" feel. I see all the things wrong with it, but I kind of loved it anyway. |

That was my take too dilbert. I feel an affinity for Carrie since I was an AI watcher for a couple years (including hers) but she needs to stick to singing and forget about the acting. Plus, I'm not so sure she should be inviting comparisons to the great Julie Andrews. I've seen the stage production of TSOM a few times and most were better. Cool sets though. |

I did like it, flaws and all. There are so many times I see Broadway shows and they're phenomenal and I wish they were taped and preserved; I do like the idea that they did it, they tried it. Carrie had highs and lows imo- but overall; I give her credit for trying and in parts she was far better than I expected. I enjoyed it for what it was. |

One thing that I did like was that Carrie seemed so much more age-appropriate. There were a few moments where I appreciated her youth, and it gave it something, and going down the aisle was one of those moments. Julie was 30 when she played that ingenue part, and while I'll always love the movie, I kind of liked the age difference bump Carrie added. I loved almost all of the singing of Audra as Mother Superior! Although as a black nun in Nazi Germany she should have run away with the Von Trapps. She would have been in far more danger than Maria. Posted Image http://www.archives.gov/publications/prologue/2005/winter/von-trapps.html This is very interesting, no escape, and Maria screamed and yelled a lot. Mariah, Carrie Underwood is 30 too. I think 30 looks younger now than in 1965.
ranjake, that's a great point and I didn't mean to make my post as negative as it sounded. I liked that they did it and tried it too and for what it was. It's hard to believe but true that there is at least one whole generation probably not familiar with TSOM. |

I think they probably would have been better served if they had just flat out done the stage version with a live audience instead of this weird hybrid production. That way the performers would have had the audience reaction to play off of and not been forced to perform live on that huge lot of "stages". Does anyone remember, way back in the day, Cinderella with Leslie Ann Warren? It was a stage production done for TV. I LOVED it as a child. Heck, they also used to do Mary Martin in Peter Pan on TV too. Now I am really feeling old. I guess we have all become too sophisticated to watch a stage play on TV, i.e. the attention span of the average viewer requires flash and special effects. |
