Do you think my daughter could watch Flowers in the Attic? She watches American Horror Story.
I'd say yes. She might even think it's lame by todays standards. I know I did.

And if she watches AHS she can handle this for sure. The plot holes are huge and it's pretty sanitized from the book - or maybe that's just the 30+ years since I read it. There is the incest thing of course but is that really worse than children killing children in The Hunger Games?

I watched it- and I watch AHS- 'Flowers in the Attic' should definitely be fine for her if she's ok with AHS, it's much tamer. It was a good movie. And next Saturday "Lizzie Borden Took an Axe" looks good, too.

ccc, Lifetime reruns their original movies a lot. Check your guide.

andme, a couple years ago Brian Bointano had a cooking show on the Food Network and now he has a home improvement show? A man of many interests.

What Would Brian Boitano Do?

Lol, he's certainly staying busy! With his new show, he travels to Itsly and renovates a home that has been in his family for years.

I can't remember where it was mentioned, but I DVR'd that Rich Kid Show and OMG it was TERRIBLE. They made the Kardashians look like they had substance. Oddly though I do believe these folks have some smarts, vs. the Kardashians who are steps above mouth breathing amoebas.

Did you like it andme? I thought it fell flat. The reviews certainly seemed mixed too.

I agree with you Cosmo.

The acting was generally fine, but the adaptation and writing was pretty poor. I loved watching Keirnan Shipka in a different role though, and I thought the mother and grandmother were perfectly cast.

It made me a bit frustrated though, as I remember those books, and I ended up going to wiki to read the synopsis of the complete series, book by book. It's quite nicely done and made me remember quite a bit.

I'm not sure that it came through that the mother was the one trying to poison/kill her kids, and it wasn't until a later book that they found the boy twin's body in the house, obviously she never took him to the doctor. Such a creepy tale, supposedly based on a true story. (sans incest I believe_)

I guess I just thought in comparison to the original "Flowers in the Attic" all of the performances were so much better and less campy; but I have a soft spot for those books. Wacky fun!

Sadly, Cosmo, I didn't see it. I do remember reading the books and wondering why the hell the dad didn't have life insurance.

Did anyone watch that "Rich Kids of Beverly Hills" show? Where are we talking about it, here, or in the BH threads somewhere?

I finally caught a tiny bit of it. I saw that one brat charge $488,000 or something in one store and nearly threw up. Another saying that she'd just buy a new purse and shoes when a friend spilled drinks on hers. (Total cost somewhere in the thousands.) Oh, and another brat talking about $60,000 Birkins.

So many people I know are struggling right now, really struggling. Honestly, it made me sick in a way the RH's shows have mostly avoided doing. The distance between the "haves" and "have nots" with all of the minimum wage jobs out there now, and the middle class struggling hard just to hold on, but mostly disappearing is making me feel political. One of the "cheap" Birkin bags these assholes buy could pay off crippling cancer debt for someone very close to me. I felt nauseous watching them.

Maybe it was because the entire show was about spending massive amounts of money? At least the RH go through the motions of distracting fights or something?

I haven't watched 'Rich Kids' - but I saw an ad, with Magic and Cookie Johnson's kid on the show. Was he on?

I watched 'Flowers in the Attic' - I never read anything by V.C. Andrews, so my whole memory of the story is 'EAT THE COOKIE!' etc. I didn't like that too much, but I also didn't like the remake. It felt like they were stuffing every obligatory plot point into an hour and a half, and I thought it was a bit boring. I do like Ellen Burstyn, but...eh.

Well, he WAS living under an assumed name, so maybe that's why? ;)

Aside from that, the mother was a sickening, horrible woman who missed being VERY rich, so she would have done the same thing anyway, tried to kill her children in order to fly to Paris whenever she felt like it, and shop.

These are pretty good recaps. At the top there are links for the other 4 books. I remember when the last one came out, my best friend said not to bother buying it because it was obviously not written by the same person. It's wiki page kinda/sorta backs that up. I'd forgotten "what happens next" and the misery just continues. It was kind of fun to read the synopsis (what is the proper way to pluralize that word?) of each subsequent book though, and learn what happens to them all.

The Grandmother actually gets a more sympathetic story in a later book. ?? That may be the one most think VCA didn't write though.
