You think M was a wimp? I've never even liked the blond guys- and I thought he was pretty cute :)

Yeah, I think Matthew is a big wimp with blah run of the mill blonde looks. I know I'm in the minority. The rich London publisher was a better match for her, but that part was so poorly written, it never hung together.

Sir Richard was good-looking- but they wrote him like an old woman- you're right- it didn't hold together. I'm never for the blond- but surprisingly am a DS fan. I really love almost ALL of the actors- pretty much all :) on the show.

PS- I HATE the title of this thread and I made it. It makes me sad when I see it- because I love Dame M so much and I was being flippant when I wrote it- wish I could change it to something more respectful. I try to be mean and snarky and it doesn't work :( She is just such an amazing actor- that one sighing sob was just a master class in acting.

I think the title is cute, and I certainly didn't take it as a slam on the actress. I doubt she would either, ranjake! :$

This is kind of cute if you haven't seen it.

I <3 the facebook! But I feel Bad about the title. I met Maggie. I think I was in 11th grade- I stage-doored at NIGHT and DAY on Broadway- and she was lovely to us- let us in her dressingroom! anyway :(

ranjake, I think the title is cute.
The Dowager Countess would just raise her eyebrow at you anyway :) But lucky, lucky you to meet Maggie.

I don't like it. She's too talented and too advanced in age and she's just about the best thing on MY TV. Who's Millie? I will PM her...

Does anyone remember the series she did about 20 years ago about the two eccentric older women? It was a gem. I'll have to look it up, because I've forgotten the name.

No- but I'd love to check it out too. I watched her last night in "Gosford Park" on demand. I loved the movie and she was FAB. Back in my teens, we used to really stage door and meet everyone who did a Broadway show- David Bowie (Elephant Man), Mary Tyler Moore (Who's Life is it anyway?), Richard Gere (Bent), Christopher Reeve(Fifth of July)- and tons more, honestly- I can name drop like Yolanda! But Maggie was lovely- she let a bunch of teenagers IN her dressing room (it was freezing:) and then none of us could say a word :) Good times :)

LOVE the title change- thank you.

Maggie is Toby Stephens Mum! Her wiki is impressive! There's so much work she's done I didn't know about...

I remember she was in The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie. I was a girl (8-9) and I remember I loved the theme song from that movie.

I know I posted a reply here and it isn't here. Frequently I have to hit post twice, and if I don't notice the second post screen, my post gets lost.

Anyway, I looked up Maggie's IMDB and could not find the show, so maybe I'm thinking of another actress, but I swear it was she.

Good interview with her on 60 Minutes last night. I thought she looked great in real life. It seems when someone isn't that attractive to begin with they almost age better.

I understand what you mean about some women aging better weaver. My dad used to call them "handsome women" - those who were never pretty or cute or beautiful, but not really ugly either. I think these sorts of women, not accustomed to getting by on their looks, allow themselves to age gracefully and therefore come out better in the end than those cute girls desperate to stay that way. See Meg Ryan as an example.

And discomom, Jean by Oliver (I think that is who sang it). Great theme song!
