Finally read all the recaps, interviews, style guides ... okay. So many errors. I think I read twice that Duck was the one who said "Going down?" -- uh-uh, it was the guy from Dancer-Fitz. One reviewer said Peggy ended up sitting in Don's chair. Really? I thought she was standing at the window.

I do love being reminded of some of the great lines, like Pete's "Not great, Bob!" and Roger's secretary's line "Ralph doesn't drink and little Ralphie is spastic ..."

I didn't realize that was Judy Collins' version of "Both Sides Now" ... as my friend, a radio DJ once told me "She had the hit" ... so I guess it was appropriate, but I did long to hear Joni's voice.

I liked reading that Hershey's did sign with an agency that year, going to Ogilvy and Mather and staying with them for DECADES. So Don blew it, big time.

And I appreciate Tom & Lorenzo's perspective that the writers seem to assume we know stuff -- for me it was that Peggy had her child adopted out -- I never heard that, or remembered that information. For T&L it was that Avon did sign with the agency and Joan "won."

One thing that was written compared Don, the man whose mother "gave him up" vs. Peggy as the woman who gives up her son ... problem with that theory is that Don's mother didn't give him up; she died in childbirth. His stepmother also stood by him, if unhappily and unkindly. And Don was there when Peggy was mired in having given birth and what should she do ... he helped her make that choice. So why would he be affected by it? I mean, in the sense of being ... I'm not sure, attracted? Helpless? with Peggy. Just wrong for that idea by that reviewer, I think.

Maureen Ryan ... I can't read her reviews anymore. She's like a teenage girl crying over Beiber. Too much, too "Join my fan club! I'm the President and Treasurer and Secretary!"

Someone wrote that they hope that Pete and Trudy get back together. And there's a whole camp, apparently, that wants Peggy and Stan to be together. Just no. Please no. Not on either camp. I know it'll never happen, but my fantasy is Pete and Peggy together ... but why? I guess I just am sad for that baby who was given up, though he's probably having a good life with some Catholic family somewhere ... unless he's got one of those priests!

She was sitting in his chair, the iconic pose, head tilted, looking out the window.. I know what you mean about recap errors though.

Hmmm, I'm starting to wonder if they show two versions of the show. The first time it airs, the longest, then every time after just a few tweaks, a few cuts. This moment you show I never saw. And I taped it and watched it twice. There was some other moment mentioned more than once that I never saw either and it made me wonder HOW I could have missed it. I do catch details usually.

BTW: I was confused by Stan's rant "What you did to her" -- Peggy? That was just a mite obtuse, IMO. Why would Don moving to CA affect Peggy? -- I mean, enough for Stan to accuse Don of being deliberately mean to her?

He was talking about his secretary, Dawn, who would lose her job if Don splits. "You probably had her type the memo and didn't even give it a thought."

WOW, cutting that scene, which was basically the season ender? The whole arc of Peggy? Unbelievable.

One more shout out for the DVDs--best DVDs I've ever bought, and still under $15 for the first 4 seasons. Last I checked season 5 was $20.

He was talking about Dawn? OMG. How would we know that? Did she walk away just before Stan spoke? How did you get that? My mind is boggled. NEVER thought that.

He said it, or gestured toward Dawn. I think he said "secretary" or something, I got it the first time.

Yeah, he rocked that scene. I love this cast.

It's was basically a total smackdown of Don, and it was beautiful. "I bet you even made her type the memo, not even thinking that this means she lost her job, you fucking asshole, you suck, you stole my idea, want my sandwich too? Work for YOU? Fuck you and the bottle you rode in on." basically. ;)

One thing about this show, I've found I really need to pay attention, it's not spoon fed. They do miss some things that are important, but not that often. (Should have mentioned that Avon called for Joan or something to let us know she did get the account.)

Said it before, I'll say it again: If this episode doesn't win any awards, something ain't right. So many great lines (I loved the one about Ralphie being spastic) the way it ended up... it was just an awesome episode.

Totally agree discomom!

Icy, I think I just figured it out. You tape it. It ALWAYS runs about 5 minutes over. I bet you've been missing the last 3-5 minutes all season long. You can watch them on that site i posted in the spoiler Downton Abby site. It's moved but the link redirects you.

No, I tape it, but it tapes the whole thing. On the schedule where you chose what to record, the bar filling the time runs over the hour mark just a bit. Plus, I always listen to the beginning of the song at the end over the credits, before AMC cuts into it with promos for THE KILLING of something else stupid. I was surprised when I watched it on DVR that they bleeped Jessica Pare's line when she said "Fuck the agency" ... I thought I heard that "fuck" when I watched a few moments live/during the airing. For some reason I recall hearing it from her, so on DVR it was a shock to hear it bleeped/silenced.

They didn't explain that Joan got the Avon account and in my opinion, they never explained that Peggy let her child be adopted. I was listening for that clue during those seasons and never heard a word that said that. In fact, I was confused thinking her sister was raising him because of that scene where she looked in on a child. I don't recall seeing her family before she gave birth -- but we might have, but was her sister pregnant? See, I never read a single recap or review or interview about this show before this current season. Nada. And I haven't gone back either. So it's my theory that all the things like this that people swear they saw they actually read in interviews -- that Weiner answered the questions and the "truth" got added to the show, even though they didn't bother with a line or two to tell it via characters. I guess I could fire up the old Netflix and rewatch those early shows. Might be good.

But I still have the last half of the last season of Dexter to watch -- Mom got sick in the middle of my viewing it (on DVR) and I got a superstition that if I finished it, she would not get better ... so I've put it off as an effort to ward off bad luck. Silly, I know. Considering the last season of it is coming up, I guess I'd better get over myself and watch! So I may get sucked away from the Mad Men vibe and lingering nostalgia before I watch anything from the older days.

missed the killing last night but will watch on demand... I also saw Peggy sitting in the chair and if I remember correctly she got up to look out the window. Stan said goodbye - have a nice weekend prior to her standing. Sad - it showed she was all alone at the top - she worked her way up but also gave a ton up to get there. Very few can be perfect even now 40 years later

Don't think so - think he won the golden globe but never an emmy even though he got a nomination every year. this year I though he was particularly amazing. Didn't even have to say a word to portray his feelings.

Spring 2014 and 2015?! 7 eps per year! That's not enough!

Oh well. I just can't wait to see what happens with Sally, Pete, Roger. Please, please let Megan have less screen time.
