me too - just watched. I really hope Don doesn't end up at AA - so sick of that on every show. Hope he just controls his drinking. |

I hope not Cosmo. We've also seen Don evolve, and actually try to reconcile things from his past self and present self, to try to be honest, limit his drinking, stay faithful. I think Don pulling that off to completion is a 50/50 proposition. He had a big slip back, but Freddie (I think) got through to him. For now. I agree cc, if he does go to AA, I don't want it on the show. Right now the battle I'm most interested in is the one at SC&P. That one I want Don (and Peggy! and Pete!) to win. The next most important battle for me is the one for Don to really keep connecting with his kids, mostly with Sally, but also with his sons. Don's followed along behind Roger, making quite a few of the same mistakes (including marrying his secretary!) but I hope there is a Sally/Don solid connection by the end of this, instead of Marigold and Roger, who are both Roger-like, and as far apart as ever. There are so many great reviews/articles out there this week. I've been binge reading today, and enjoying every minute of it. |

I'm not hoping for a terrible outcome but I guess I just thought that's where it was going. Otherwise, I'm at a complete loss as to what that is on the opening. Any ideas? Mariah, you've read a lot of interviews etc. with Weiner - has he ever addressed the Don falling graphics? |

Weiner lies when it comes to possible spoilers. Ha. He really keeps control of anything spoilerish. I dunno. Don HAS fallen, his life has been in free fall for a while now. He might catch himself though. He is trying, and after last episode, may try even harder. On one of the DVDs someone said that one of the boys, Pete maybe? was supposed to fall or jump out a window during the first season, but they liked him too much/changed the story. Weiner kind of plays it all off as just an opening, but as I said, he lies when it comes to spoilers. The scariest thing I read in one of the dozens of reviews I've read today was about Roger's kid running around with that toy gun possibly foreshadowing a gunshot death. NO! Hee, maybe Lou will try to push Don out a window, but he'll fall instead? I'm hoping it's simply a metaphorical fall. I think we'll get at least one death this season though. Maybe Bert, maybe Roger really will die in the office like his lover Mrs. Blankenship. ;) Maybe Cutler! Although if it's too easy for Don to rise back to the top, he won't learn anything, or value it. He still has amends to make though. |

Thanks for your post Mariah. I think I will just go back to thinking the falling man isn't anything more than an opening. And you're right, Don has fallen before - almost all last season was him falling. I listened to the NPR interview with Weiner linked above and I liked how at the end he wondered what would have happened if he hadn't cast Jon Hamm; and his answer was he wouldn't have a show. I totally agree. Hamm is an amazing actor - at least as Don Draper (I don't think I've seen him do anything else but guest walk ons etc.) He is the show for me. Well, him and the girl that plays Sally, Kiren something. They have some really good chemistry. I love this show and these characters so much. I might have to schedule a series rewatch before the last few episodes next year. |

I'm telling you the DVDs are SO worth it, except for last season's because they didn't do all the commentaries. They are relatively cheap too, nothing like HBO show prices. I think the casting and acting and writing/directing on this show is stellar. I have such affection for all of them, except Lou and Cutler (although I certainly can't fault their acting, and I've worked for assholes just like both of them.) |

I want Don to make it back to the top. Yes, he's been an asshole, but he's also been more supportive of the underdog than any of the privileged pricks in charge of that agency, including Joan. Joan redeemed herself, in my eyes, by promoting Dawn to head of HR, but she sort of did that to spite Lou and Bert, I thought. Peggy is just heart-broken and taking it all out on Don because whatzisname is out in LA. As far as the guys hassling her, who is to stop them? I think that was typical. Geez, I experienced that in the mid-90s! Every time I look at Talia Balsam I think "she was married to George Clooney" … |

And now she's married to Slattery. I guess she goes for the Irish types. I'm thinking the Mets won the World Series in 1969 and man landed on the moon, so maybe this season will end on an up note. Don back on the carousel. I wonder if Weiner will ever tell what his original intentions for the year were when all episodes were scheduled for this year. I hate whoever made the decision to spread it out. |

I was thinking the same thing - as always perfect ending song. I also thought about the Mets and the Moon. Lots still to come this year. What month was the moon landing? I hope Don rises up. So not liking Peggy this year. Guess we aren't supposed to. Liked her dress yesterday but always hated those collars. Like that length. Good for short people. |

Moon, Mets, Woodstock & Manson are all summer events. (July/August) The only really huge event I could find near the end of the year is the Draft Lottery begins. Oh wait! Altamont is in December. Possibly a Woodstock end to this 6, and Altamont involved in the end of the series? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1969 Edited by Mariah, May 6 2014, 03:35 PM.

Yep, the Moon definintely was a summer event. I can see the ending being tied up in that, being a metaphor and all... I remember the Moon landing. I left the neighborhood swimming pool early so I could bathe and get into my jammies to be set to watch it. My aunt made a cake and brought it over, and we all sat around and watched it. It certainly was *the event* and took away some of the angst of everything that was going on in 1969. ETA: My second oldest brother graduated HS in 69 and I also seem to remember a lot of Jimmy Hendrix records being played in his room. Edited by discomom, May 7 2014, 02:37 PM.

I love the way this recapper begins and his overall take on the episode/season so far. http://www.pastemagazine.com/articles/2014/05/mad-men-review-the-monolith.html

Wah, wah, wha -- you're all wrong and I'm right and you suck and I shine. Geez. I don't like the boozing and the bedding and the divorcing etc. at all! But it's all extremes. I was thinking about this earlier today. The kid Ellery comes in with a gun toy and suddenly it's a hint that someone's gonna die by gun violence. WHY? In real life everything doesn't mean something. I could use more realism, where small moments that this guy LOVES actually have more weight because they stand out from the ordinary. There is no ordinary on Mad Men. It's over-thought. |

Ha Icy! I only read one recapper say that, and even I thought it was a stretch. Although, perhaps there to add to an ominous "what is going to happen?" feel. On twitter the people who were saying it's boring now pretty much also said that they wanted dapper Don back seducing women and charming clients. I think this reviewer was responding to that, and I agree when he says this slow rebuilding (or not) of a life is just as interesting. |

So let's have some fun. Who do you think would go to Woodstock? I assume Roger's daughter will be she isn't a main player....... |
