Roger's daughter for sure, she practically lives there! Sally, and maybe Glenn (is that her friend's name?) They obviously won't show it, so I think it will just be people that get in trouble, or that people are worried about. So, the kids?

Peggy's old boyfriend, and her gay friend will probably go too.

Maybe Stan will go and maybe that girl who left town who Sally knew will reappear. Definitely Roger's daughter. Maybe she'll get Roger to go. He'd be so old there.

I love the way this recapper begins and his overall take on the episode/season so far.

Quote:

There’s been some grumbling—among fans and even a few critics—that this season of Mad Men is boring. But that argument’s only valid if all you know of the show is its salaciousness. If the only reason you tune in every week is to see characters boozing, smoking, getting into explosive arguments and sleeping with people they shouldn’t be sleeping with, then sure, this season’s not going to impress you yet. Personal growth isn’t exactly flashy. But if you’re here for the character development, for the story—not just of Don Draper, but of everyone else within his orbit—that has become more and more compelling over the course of six-plus seasons, you’ve likely been floored a few times this year already. It’s tempting to write off a sexless Don Draper as dull, but if you do the work and stick with the series, reading it as closely as Matt Weiner and the writers intend it to be read, there’s no way you can possibly be doing anything but holding your breath and bracing for that fire we’ve been promised.
I think this guy has a big stick up his butt. He's saying if you don't like Madmen you aren't intellectually up to the challenge. I disagree. Its had very long boring moments.

Then I've found glaring inconsistencies in it that I never found in Sopranos for example, a show I thought was seamless. LIke Bert and Peggy and Joan's treatment of Don for example. Like they bring in the computer, but they don't really know what they are going to be programming or what data they are getting, do they? Who is doing the programming? He was so anxious to get the symbolism of the computer in he forgot the practical details. I agree with Icy that the scene of Roger and Mona going to see Marigold was filler to give screen time to Slattery and Balsam.

I love the show, but I think it does not come close to Sopranos in writing, and even acting. As wonderful as Hamm is, Gandolfini was better. Edie Falco was better than any of Don's wives and gf's. I don't think JJ is very good. And Pare has only recently been plausible. And Sopranos was entertaining except for that odd season where the gay mob guy went to Vermont or something. I think that was a case where network forced Chase into extra epis to stretch out one more season.................. just like they've done to Weiner. JMO.

The rest of that article doesn't read like that though, and as I said, he was responding more to some pretty odd twitter comments.

Meanwhile, here's a short little Q&A with Kiernan Shipka who plays Sally. She's so adorable when she does commentaries, such a positive girl, who adores acting and her cast members and the writers. I hope she goes on to do more things.

There are some other shorties on that site, here's January Jones' http://blogs.amctv.com/mad-men/2014/04/qa-january-jones-betty-francis/ too.

I love Keirnan Shipka, she is so adult. Let's hope she doesn't fall in the trap of other child actors.

Weaver there was a season - can't remember which one that I didn't love on the Sopranos and thought was mediocre. I do love David Chase thought bc he wrote many episodes of the Rockford Files which is one of my favorite shows ever- I am so silly.

I think they all killed it tonight. Peggy made me as queasy as she "was." Loved Sally and Betty as always. I was glad Henry stopped letting Betty walk all over him. She's so STUCK in the fifties, I keep thinking she was just born too late, or too early. Her frustration and not even being able to really understand it is so real to me.

Hated the threesome, but watched it again and noticed that Megan was really after control, keeping Don from Steph, and trying to control what she assumes to be his urges by picking the girl.

Aw Ginsberg. He just broke my heart tonight. I hope there is some future resolve for him, word that he is doing better or something. Born in a concentration camp where his parents were murdered, brilliant but always strange, Peggy, Stan, and Ginsberg just owned it tonight.

And of course, loved, loved, loved seeing Don own Lou and Cutler. I hope it continues.

When I think about it, there were two, the one season that I mentioned that had the gay gangster going up to Vermont. It was so dull and dragged on and on and on......

Then there was another good season, but Tony kept having dreams of Italy that were so dull and never made sense.

I loved Rockford Files too, used to watch repeats all the time. It was way ahead of its time, Rockford respected women.

I loved the show, but I thought too much time was spent in LA on the hippie scene. I didn't buy Don going along with the threesome, he needs control too much and he has swallowed his lack of control in his business life, I think he wouldn't do it with Megan. Loved Megan's Pucci dress, I had a knockoff of that.

That Stephanie actress is gorgeous. Interesting that Megan would be threatened by her because maybe she knows Don/Dick better. But I could have done without that whole plot because I'm not that interested in Megan.

I don't care much about Betty and Henry. Shipka knocked it out of the park again though, she is really a good actress. Loved her scenes with her brother.

As for Ginsburg, it was too much time to spend on a secondary character, IMO. I'd so much rather see how Joan and Roger are adapting to SCP.

Now the office plot, that's where the focus should be. I loved Don walking in on them in the Algonquin. Loved how he hailed the cab in the final scene, his old authority. His scene with Lou about the cartoon character was wonderful.

I think I've found another favorite writer. I'll have to read some of her other stuff now, excellent review of the show (and love the Sinatra tie in that begins it.)

This is from last week, but it's a really in depth analysis of Betty, and I think they really captured her issues, and point out the scenes, small as they may be, that give the glimpses into her dissatisfaction with her role, and how she acts, and why. http://lareviewofbooks.org/essay/mad-men-season-7-field-trip

ETA again. Sorry. This one is my very favorite, starts off slowly, but it's so very good, especially the in depth Ginsberg stuff. http://inthesetimes.com/article/16684/mad_men_season_7_episode_5

One more, a link to some good links about Mad Men (one stop shopping.) It has a Vulture interview with Feldman (Ginzberg) and Don's new Madame Trussard's wax figure and some other good ones.

Just watched. This was an enjoyable episode, IMO. Though with all that time on planes I was expecting a crash, LOL

And hey, Mariah, even I can see the theme here: Family. What is family? Everyone desperate to be in a family or belong OR not be "one of those people" …

So Don is planning on coming out to LA end of July. Manson murders were in June, right? I sort of doubt any of the cast will be involved in that because those were named known people. Like with Burger Chef: real company but who remembers them? They can rewrite history. But Sharon Tate is iconic for that murder. They don't seem like the kind of show to switch names in history when it's so easily checked or so well known.

Manson murders (the big ones, Tate and Folgier,) began Aug 6th. There is no way in hell they won't at least mention them on the show, especially with Megan giving those parties, and living in the canyons. It may send her running back to Don, but will he take her? I've never thought Megan would be killed, just greatly upset and probably know some of those involved, possibly live very close.

I think there were a few themes, but the one that struck me the most was that the whole 50s version of "family" was a myth, none of the people writing or selling those kinds of ads HAVE that kind of family. Those times are gone, but "family" still exists, but you may find it more with close friends than have a Leave it To Beaver household.

I loved this one too, especially the Don/Peggy scenes. They need each other so much...

There are some wonderful reviews already out. Here are some of my favorites, trust me, they are good, and worth reading. I think it was also about not settling for what society thinks it wants. "My way." Be true to yourself, even though it's often painful, follow your own heart, dreams, and don't give up. (Bob Benson and Joan for example)

There should be a bunch of other great ones tomorrow. I love reading the blogs when I can't watch the show anymore, and seeing what everyone else thinks, there, and here, even on twitter. I'm going to be sad when this season ends next week, and even sadder when the series ends. Oh well, there will always be DVD's for my bedtime watching. Sigh, I really love these writers and actors and this show.

Oh! "Joan" really has lost some weight too!

I appreciate all the collecting and gathering you do, Mariah! I read through a lot of the list from that AMC site above and will definitely spend some time on your new post. I like thinkers and what they are willing to commit to. Of course, all these people get advance copies and watch many times before they write their columns -- I wish they would be upfront with that and tell how many times they viewed it. But that's a nit.

Yes, her face looked much thinner.

ETA: I might be wrong -- someone in one of them says he was taking notes. I still think that could have been a few days earlier, but I could be wrong. Tom and Lorenzo probably watch it as it airs. I like that they point out that Stonewall happens the next week in the time of the show. If Bob Benson is still in town, he could get caught up in that. That would be the end of Buick for him, I'd bet, despite that Chevy exec's truth.

I absolutely loved it. It had everything I like, focus on the core characters of the show at work and at home. No Ginsburg type time wasting plot, no minutes showing us a hippie party. Its amazing that the whole season has passed and until last night, we knew so little about where Joan stood these days. Actually I'm still not sure I know. Surely over the years she's met many men. She's a widow, but not really encumbered, so she is a good catch. I think it was around that time that Mary Wells (divorced with kids) married the airline executive, so there is a role model for Joan. I think Joan would be living a much better life by now. BTW, Joan looked unbelievably beautiful.

I never bought that Peggy would ostracize Don for so many weeks but last night made up for it. Those scenes together were perfect.

I didn't get what the steam room guy was trying to imply to Roger but I gather it will be all good in the end for SCP, from what Bob Benson said.

Next week will be sad.
