Show was brilliant tonight. When I saw Don in the blue shirt, I realized how much I'd missed him. When I saw Rachel in what I first thought was a real scene, I gasped. I loved her character so much. But it wouldn't be possible to have a happy ending with Rachel, that wouldn't be Don and it wouldn't be smart to waste a whole season on Don building up a relationship with her only to see it come to its usual end. When Don learned she died, Jon Hamm was pitch perfect, as was he when he went to the apartment. What an actor he is. I was really in both those scenes. I can't figure out Roger yet. Two years ago he was a falling down drunk, having heart attacks and in the last two seasons he has looked healthy and seems to be controlling his drinking. Not too realistic, I think. Same with Don, he is still drinking, but seems to be able to produce copy and do good ad work. I though Peggy and Joan's scene with the Topaz guys was a bit heavy handed. Overkill on the part of the Topaz guys, or were they the Macy's guys? They would have said all those things behind the women's backs, but not in a meeting to their faces. Let Megan be gone for good, please, it is so much better without her. I've always preferred the scenes with the office charaters and this show was no exception. I want to see Sally, but no Betty is fine with me. The moustaches on Ted (???) and Roger were funny. Why hasn't Peggy moved from her dump with all the money they got from McCann? By the way, the Irish jokes re McCann brought back memories. Very common things to say in those days. I'm not sure Don is going to change much this season. I think it might have a Sopranos type ending; things and people are changing around Don, but he isn't changing much himself, so the downhill slide will be inevitable but won't really be shown. It will leave you wondering. Who knows? |

Peggy's not a partner, so she didn't get any extra money from the sale. Joan did though, hence Peggy's snipe "You're filthy rich, you don't have to do this." Those weren't the Topaz or Macy's guys, those were the McCann guys. I found it very realistic that coworkers would act just that way. Actually, without they huge boobs? Been there, done that back in the day, I was even chased around a desk once, for real. At the time I kept thinking "this is like a cartoon" but it wasn't funny. Being out with my cousin, who is actually built like Joan, only with naturally blond hair? OMG, the things men would say and do, from the time she was 13...and that was in conservative SLC Utah. Don really cut down on his drinking last year, remember him measuring the bottle? Peggy's dump, IIRC cost a fortune, since it's a whole building, not just her apartment. She should hold on to it, as you guys told me, it will be worth a freaking fortune in 10 more years. Ha. I hope we see Sally and Betty next week! I want Hamm to finally win an Oscar, but Odenkirk is killing it on Better Call Saul, so I dunno. |

Oh, forgot Peggy didn't cash in on McCann. I thought it the comments of the McCann guys were ham fisted. I too was around in those days, but comments like that were not said in groups in meetings, in my experience. Sure a lot of sexual innuendo, but not blatant outright remarks like the ones they said to Joan. Sometimes I think Weiner goes overboard in order to make a point, where a bit more subtlety would be welcome. Out on the street was a different story, but it happens a whole lot now too. I see it on the construction site on my corner. I was interviewed at Honeywell once, a very large mainstream company at the time, and the guy asked if I was an ICV, an expression I'd never heard. I asked what was that, and he said "Irish Catholic Virgin." Yep, I know those things happened. Gee, if it happened now I could collect and be a gazillionaire. Yes, I remember Don cutting down, but that's what I don't buy. Don't believe such a heavy drinker cut cut down so much. Hamm deserves an Emmy, or else a leading role in a movie worth his talent. I'm not worried about Jon Hamm getting parts. He GOT THE PART already. History will remember him for MAD MEN. And look at all the focus … no, he already got the golden ticket. I didn't think last night's show was much to jump around about, but I often don't "get it" at first and come back later to see all the stuff. Gotta agree with Weaver, that was too much. Those guys were blatant and childish … however, if this is Weiner saying McCann doesn't take Sterling, et al seriously, then I get it. I don't particularly think Rachel was the love of Don's life who slipped away, so bringing her back as a ghost … he hasn't thought about her that we know since they broke up. He had that hot and heavy with the upstairs neighbor. He had Megan. He had that freakout in LA. He cried in the same way when his San Diego "wife" died. Unless it turns out one of Rachel's kids is HIS kid, I just didn't need the walk down memory lane. So I guess it must lead to something. Loved Kenny's storyline. ESPECIALLY him coming in at the end to piss all over their smugness. Whiner Pete. Life is so hard when you have millions. LOL |

I finally figured out where I'd seen the waitress. She was Will Gardner's girlfriend on The Good Wife for quite a few episodes. I think she resembled the doctor's wife (from zDon's apartment building) as well as Rachel. |

I just loved, seeing Don. Man I missed him. I think they will be putting in most of the primary characters in the last few episodes I seems like forever since it's been on. I did love the scene with Joan going on a spending spree. Peggy may not be filthy rich but she must be super upper middle class by now I was surprised she let her jealousy show so openly. She will never mbe happy if she continues on this path. It's a shame

She's also the Vampire "mom" in the Twilight movies. Hee. Also, from reading at PTV, apparently she had a face replacement on Grey's Anatomy. Edited by Mariah, Apr 7 2015, 07:32 PM.

I'm sure Peggy can shop at Bonwit's too. Maybe not as high end as Joan's wardrobe, but that's where I did a lot of my shopping. Joan takes the designer dress over the $59 dress even though they look the same, loved that. Bonwit's was a great store. Peggy can move, too. Apartments were much cheaper then relative to salaries. Two of my friends in this building were secretaries who moved in here in the mid 70's. One was at IBM and one was at CitiBank. Both companies paid relatively high salaries, but no secretary could move in here now. Investment bankers move in here now. I didn't realize how much I missed Don until the first scene came on. And then when I saw the blue shirt, I died and went to heaven. I too hope they don't waste time on any but the major characters. Alas, I read Megan will be on. Christina Hendricks looked gorgeous. What skin she has. Edited by weaver, Apr 8 2015, 05:33 AM.

Peggy doesn't have Joan's kind of money, and she owns that place. I think it would be pretty hard for her to just move, but let's hope she doesn't sell right now, because before too long it will be worth a LOT of money. ;) |

Love Tom and lorenZo I looked up the song. Really interesting info on it. Here is the meaning of the lyrics so perfect The lyrics of this song are written from the point of view of a person who is disillusioned with events in life that are supposedly unique experiences. The singer tells of witnessing her family's house on fire when she was a little girl, seeing the circus, and falling in love for the first time. After each recital she expresses her disappointment in the experience. She suggests that we "break out the booze and have a ball — if that's all there is", instead of worrying about life. She explains that she'll never kill herself either because she knows that death will be a disappointment as well. The verses of the song are spoken, rather than sung. Only the refrain of the song is sung. |

I've known this song for years … I'm trying to recall if it was included in SMOKEY JOE'S CAFE, the Broadway review, because it was written by Lieber and Stoller, who wrote those songs. Peggy Lee is a perfect singer/performer for it, but IIRC, Liza recorded it, too. |
