Maybe they will be kind to the viewer and show it with no commercials. I find them so disruptive. I'm hopeful for Don's future. |

I am too weaver! I am so excited to watch this tonight, and even though I have the DVDs, I've still had the channel turned to AMC for the marathon. |

Be careful! There seems to be an actual real spoiler out there. Use message boards and the web very carefully if you want to be surprised. |

I love the finale episode, but, time was wasted in the final season. Don creates the coke ad, he will OWN McCann. I think (and no one will talk me out of this) that takes him back to NYC, and to his children, who will be slowly but surely weaned away from Henry. I think he'll still see them, and Don wont stand in the way, but neither Betty or Sally is right. They WILL be raised by their father. The orphan will never leave his children with someone else. Some recaps, have to see if anyone else liked it. I'm ready now. There will be 2 dozen more, but here are a few, for those that enjoy them. http://time.com/3860816/mad-men-series-finale-recap/ http://artsbeat.blogs.nytimes.com/2015/05/18/mad-men-series-finale-recap/?_r=0 http://www.forbes.com/sites/davidthier/2015/05/17/review-how-the-last-10-seconds-of-the-mad-men-finale-saved-don-draper/ http://tvline.com/2015/05/17/mad-men-series-finale-recap-don-meditating-coke-commercial/ http://www.vulture.com/2015/05/vulture-live-blogs-the-mad-men-finale.html http://www.rollingstone.com/tv/recaps/mad-men-series-finale-recap-coke-and-a-smile-20150518 http://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/2015/05/mad-men-finale-season-7-recap This isn't Mo's, hopefully she will have one up later. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2015/05/18/mad-men-finale_n_7303196.html Not Alan's, but soon: http://www.hitfix.com/the-fien-print/mad-men-series-finale-offers-happyish-endings-from-person-to-person Edited by Mariah, May 18 2015, 06:40 AM.

Mariah, so far your first two links have failed. Did you copy the whole thing? There's an ellipse in the middle. I like your assessment. I'm going with that. Betty can't dictate after she's gone; sorry, dear. And Sally needs to be free to go to Madrid, IMO. |

I was very disappointed in the show. Too many too pat solutions to everything. I haven't read anyone else's takes. I've always hated Don in California. Somehow Weiner doesn't get those scenes right, IMO. They seem stilted and fake to me. Was that Esalen? I'll have to go look that up to see the time frame. It does leave it open for us to speculate what happens to Don, a la Tony Soprano. I do think he returns, and will take care of his kids. I wish Weiner could have shown that in another way. My thought was that Peggy will write "It's the real thing." I'll have to look up the timing on that too. I'm happy for Peggy. I'm happy for Pete too. I'm sorry its over, but I sure wanted more last night. Edited by weaver, May 18 2015, 06:27 AM.

Nah don thought of it already hat was his smile and the hill. He had an epiphany right after saying to peggy he couldn't do Coke I didn't mind the pat endings I liked the stories brought to n end. Roger was on fire last night. Never change |

Also the Reeptionist who checked him into esalen looked like the braided girl for the song. I also think they were dressed similar as well. |

The only ending I really bought wholeheartedly was Pete and Trudy at Lear. I bought Don too, as I chose to interpret it as his finally finding some self realization and acceptance. I buy Don's ending, just didn't like the endless scenes at the Esalen type place. I know fans wanted Peggy and Stan together, but I didn't care one way or the other. And Joan and bf scenes just didn't work for me. I bought Peggy staying at McCann rather than going with Joan. She knows where her strengths are, and she knows she can fight the system at McCann. Same with Roger/Madame Colvet, too fast. But I did like Roger ordering champagne and lobster, Weiner having a laugh at all of us who thought Roger might die. And nice to know he did care about his son with Joan, which has always been a bit of a puzzle. I felt a bit lost for Sally, but I do have faith in Don's return. |

Here's a bit of the story of the real coke some say wiener started the entire series somewhat based on this guy That Coke ad was born in January, 1971, less than three months after the events depicted in “Person to Person.” It was developed at McCann, the agency Don fled, by an executive named Bill Backer (sounds like Don Draper). He got the idea when his plane was stranded in Ireland en route to meet Coca-Cola music director Billy Davis and Davis’ co-songwriters Roger Cook and Roger Greenaway. Backer saw other stranded passengers killing time by chatting over bottles of Coke. Upon arriving in London, Backer told the music team about his epiphany, and they got out an old tape of a song they’d started working on a year earlier, turned it into the now-famous jingle and shipped it to radio stations in February, and it became so popular that it became a TV spot that fall. |
