Well, I'm just guessing the girl was KGB. Remember in the early part of the show, Phillip told Elizabeth that the KGB was going to put someone on the kids that even they wouldn't be able to spot? Elizabeth asked, "Is that supposed to make us feel better?" The Aunt, who obviously had her full facilities, since she called Phillip to warn him, seemed to be pretending dementia and pretending to think Paige was her long dead daughter. SO, how else would she be ready to do all of that? I think the bus girl called and warned her Paige was on the way. I just love this show, can't believe more people here aren't watching. |

Those are good points. The Aunt thing is still a bit confusing to me, with the different names? There's sooo much going on that I don't always catch it all even watching twice; but I just love it. |

http://www.rollingstone.com/movies/news/the-americans-recap-road-trippin-20140312 Good recap! Better one? http://artsbeat.blogs.nytimes.com/2014/03/12/the-americans-recap-its-all-about-worklife-balance/ So far the best one: http://www.avclub.com/tvclub/americans-walk-202144 No one else seems to think the bus girl was KGB though. I do, and will be pretty shocked if I'm wrong. B) Edited by Mariah, Mar 13 2014, 08:53 PM.

No- I agree now, I remember Phillip saying that and it makes sense. Love the recaps- especially the AV club one, thanks. |

Thanks for the recap links, Mariah! I did PM Icy to ask her to move this thread to TV Dramas. I don't think the bus girl was KGB because she was so young - the parents seem to keep the kids out of it. I do think she'll play some part in Paige's story. Maybe she will make Paige question her parents more, or something. However, I think the "Aunt Helen" story was brilliant! Every post or recap I've read says that Elizabeth was right to burn that letter - it would mess up the boy beyond belief, blow their cover, hurt the KGB etc - but my opinion is that she was wrong to do it. She could have put it away somewhere really safe and had him open it was he was older. (An attorney or bank could handle that if she wasn't around.) He could maybe understand at that point and come to terms with the truth. Oh well. Philip is so great in his different character costumes! I don't know how he keeps the wig from Martha, though! |

Oh, I felt so bad for that Boy :( I'm torn about whether she did the right thing- but he has a right to know eventually, I think... |

Wow. I'm not torn one single bit. Why ruin his life? He's an American, not a Russian, he has ZERO connection with Russia, and undoubtedly participated in Air Raid drills, studied the Cuban Missile Crisis in school, and idolizes his parents, whom he knows as loving, honest, happy, and loyal. So tell him he's been lied to his whole life, his parents are not only dead, but were murdered, probably as traitors? Yeah, good luck living any kind of normal or happy life after that! He'd be even more destroyed, and also probably spill the beans to a counselor or his guardian, endangering other operatives, and probably putting the FBI on his tail for life (if they aren't already!) Not only that, his parent's activities killed his sister! He's with a family that adores him, he's off to college in a year to study engineering, and someday will marry and have his own family, and fond memories of his mom and dad. |

I totally agree on not telling him while he's still reeling and young. But I thought he could find out much later in life, just to know that large part of his history. It was his dead mother's wish for him to know. Elizabeth was right to protect him from it now, and protect the KGB. Elizabeth (as "Jackie") taking the photo of the guy's son was so creepy. I love this show. I wish it would be promoted more. FX has had big hits in the past that ran for 6+ seasons such as Nip/Tuck and The Shield. |

Those scenes with Elizabeth and the crowbar were so wonderful, and tense! I think we saw a real softening of Elizabeth this episode. The old Elizabeth didn't give a damn about kids or anything else other than her mission and devotion to her cause. She WOULD have kept her promise and blindly expected that kid to adjust/be proud of his parents. She WOULD have killed that witness to protect her secrets, and to hell with his kids. It's almost as if she's getting to the place Phillip was last season, when he broached the subject of defecting and just enjoying family and America. That whole crowbar scene felt a bit like the kind of tension Hitchcock could pull out of his hat. So scary, and the actor playing the janitor really deserves a guest star Emmy nom. He took a simple little role, and played it so perfectly, just SO well, not over or under acting, conveying with his eyes/sweat/body his fear and determination to try anything to stay alive, his initial hesitation that maybe, just hopefully, he was misreading the situation, gently scrambling to find a way out. |

Me too! It was a real turning point for Elizabeth. Had Phillip been holding the crowbar, I wouldn't have been so scared for the janitor, he's a softy. Elizabeth just isn't, she's always been all business. I love this show so much. |

My dh couldn't understand the entire episode. He has bad eyesite and me trying to read the subtitles (which are way too quick on the screen) and the back and forth in time he was just 'WHAT?' I hope he continues to watch. I was also scared with the crowbar. Made me really dislike her - oddly even though you see softening. You are right that it was taken right out of a Hitchcock movie. ccc, maybe find one of the excellent blogs about it for him? This was a very visual episode, so I can see why it would be hard for him. Meanwhile, TONIGHT! Can't wait! |

Looks like I may be wrong about the bus girl, unless she's deep undercover and they are letting her explore religion. I feel like I missed stuff, so I'm about to watch it again. Still loving this show. ccc, it must be so hard having to read the Russian subtitles too. Oh, and I've learned I've lost nearly all of my Russian...sigh, I catch several words, but the grammar is gone, as well as some pretty basic simple stuff. 4+ years of Russian down the tubes from lack of practice. sigh |
