Isn't most journalism print journalism? I would think that would require a lot of training in writing and editing like you said Disco. Those talking heads like Brian Williams and the Kelly guy on Fox 5 in the morning (who I love to watch because he is so unedited) I don't think of as journalists. The people who write their copy are the journalists/writers? Nonfiction to be sure, but writers nonetheless.

But even with training, it takes a gift to write something that people enjoy.

My favorite class in college was a technical journalism class. I was a science major, so why I took it I do not know, but it served me very well in writing research papers, reports, dissertations, etc. As Disco wrote, it really taught me how to be focused in my writing, to be clear and succinct, to work within an iterative process, and to edit, edit, edit.

Just saw a sneak peak. The chin grab was really much ado about nothing.

I like Holla! She walks up to Aviva and telling her that spreading lies about someone's livelihood is not cool.

For ONCE Ramona grabs her bag and skedaddles when things heated up. She also says that she didn't mean to start this whole hullabaloo. Sure Ramona!

Okay - I did a search on Twitop and it looks like Mozelle wrote it? and must have deleted it because Jextella quoted it and it only comes up in search under Jextella's post in the quote - not under the original quote. So either one of the mods dinged it or the original poster deleted it. Shades of Susan Saunders indeed! But then you look at her other posts and she seems to be criticizing Aviva so maybe she is throwing us off the track.

Lol.
The post is still there on page 1234. The poster is laura31. Howard edited it for being boards on boards.
I love how he chastises her for boards on boards but the whole damn board is using the nickname Veevs! Um no nicknames right? WTF selective moderating

Howard must dislike Veevs. I like the nickname.

Dilbert, my favorite quote about writing is "All good writing is rewriting."

Finally getting around to watching this week's episode.

Does Carole speak a sentence without a mouthful of food?

OMG, the organ donation story was so sad and sweet and touching.

Harry Dubin has been getting "text-es" all day from Sonja.

Kristen and Sonja are fun together.

Millsaps!

Ramona looked nice in the pink striped dress.

Holy crap. Was Heather performing in The Mikado prior to the party?

That food thing bugged me so much, I had to turn away from the screen. And her cheeks are more prominent than before. What did she put in them? And I missed her odd, eccentric wardrobe. Has she gone mainstream?

I think she is going 60s super girl look. The book cover was not typical dress for her.

Yeah, she definitely looks different this year. Cheeks do look more prominent and she needs to do something with her hair. And don't get me started on the yapping with a mouth full of food.

And I was shocked at how awful Heather looked at Aviva's. It was almost like a costume.

Think Ramona's looking better this year. Let's hope the satin dresses are a thing of the past.

I'm finding Kristen thoroughly entertaining so far.

I think Carole stuffs her face more when she's trying not to fight? Like it gives her something to do instead of bitch slapping Aviva? LOL

Kristen cracks me up so far, too, andme. Sonja was really molesting her with her eyes during the spray tan session.

Going back a ways - dilbert, maybe Carole and her publisher should put out a statement - I really think Aviva's nuts and mean as hell and I think it's kind of surreal that this rumor that she started has any legs (hardy har, boo to me).

Aviva's writer augment was completely invalid when she asked Carole if she thought she was John Grisham. Aviva's opinion of Mr. Grisham is nails on a chalkboard to anyone who knows anything about literature. Try John Irving, Aviva. I LOL at the John Grisham comment and totally get why Carole was so exasperated.

Carole does need to get that she's wasting her air on Aviva. She is a far inferior writer but Carole would do better to just humor her.

Aviva's butterscotch mom capris with her fake leg poking out at the cuff looking like a corpse leg. I'm so going to hell I am sorry but it was such a bad angle.

I don't think it's your fault; she's just so unlikable. Anyone else with an artificial limb, I think most everyone would be unbelievably sympathetic too and also cheering for. There's just something about Aviva- it's like acting-especially this year- really bad acting, imo. This is all calculated, I think. I know people have said before- trying to bring the drama, rent a new apartment, do anything to keep her place. And then for all the shit she pulls, in her blogs, she's dismissing it all- trying to be charming- but on twitter she's herself.

I hate the color of the pants - the butterscotch comes across as almost nude and I don't like it. Not from a prude standpoint but from an ugly standpoint. Yuck. IMO of course lol.

On a personal note: I cannot count the number of times as an author I have been casually dismissed and diminished by people. Seems everyone in the world has written a children's book or is planning on writing one someday. Yes, anyone who paid attention in the first through third grades can write. That does not make them a writer or an author. Someone on Twitop pondered if Aviva stood in a garage and declared that made her a car. HA!

Dilbert: I would like to write a children's book someday. I'm not a writer and would certainly need someone to help. That said, it sounds like you're saying that someone like me, with many years of humorous anecdotes about young children under my belt from teaching kindergarten and having children, doesn't/shouldn't have a voice because I haven't studied nor been a journalist for 20 years. Many of the comments at TWOP are the same - that unless you've honed the craft and learned to write beautifully, or spent 5 years agonizing over a memoir - that a fledgling author doesn't deserve a chance.

When I discovered that you are an accomplished author of children's books, I told you I admired that. I believe I even mentioned that I had aspirations some day of trying my hand at writing. I almost feel like I owe you an apology now. I will say, that I genuinely never meant to dismiss or diminish your accomplishments by sharing my dream with you.

You've got me reviewing in my mind, the many times I've shared a funny classroom incident at a party or wherever and someone has said, "you should write a book" and I've responded, "that's my dream when Lil Rye goes away to college". I didn't mean to sound like a Dismissive-to-Real-Authors asshole.

At all.
