I think that we aren't getting the whole Carole/Aviva interaction. Like supposedly Aviva asked Carole to help her pick a ghost writer.

Carole isn't my favorite HW. I do think she was too cool for school last year.

But I don't blame her for confronting Aviva. Aviva at the party was telling people that Carole used a ghost, and Carole rightly approached her about it and said initially nothing inflammatory and Aviva asked if she could respond. And Carole said yes, but that she wasn't going to give her a lot of wiggle room because this was her career. So Aviva IMO basically says because Carole was condescending and rude (which I don't doubt Carole can be) that Aviva thought it was okay to spread those rumors about her.

But Carole basically lost her shit and stooped to Aviva's level. I think that was reality right there. I wish Carole had handled it better. But that was what I watch the show for. Real reactions.

How crazy is Aviva to insult Carole for being 50? And Carole came across as petty to go up to Aviva's family and friends and say, "Goodnight, thank you and your wife is a mean person." Lol. Love it. Not such a cool hipster there. But I don't blame her for doing it.

And Aviva is like a psycho predator.

Agree completely, Fin. Aviva was really accurate describing herself last year - as 'relentless' when she's in conflict. After Carole got sharp and her voice rose, Aviva repeatedly said, "You're yelling. You're yelling. You're yelling." -- even as Carole lowered her volume, right away.

How does Aviva not see her attempted burns vis-a-vis age as pathetic?

I think that Aviva truly thinks that since Carole wrote a book and she wrote book that somehow they are equals in the book writing world. What Aviva can't seem to comprehend is that there is a world of difference between someone making their living as a writer for years and some reality star "writing" a book. I think that due to the loss of her leg years ago she was always catered to and told how great she is and she has come to expect it from everyone now. It's like last season when she said she expected a banner saying "Welcome Aviva!"

I think Melissa Gorga and Aviva used the same ghost writer. I think that Aviva probably assumes that it was as easy for Carole as it was for her to slap out a book in a few weeks. It is probably maddening to Carole. But I think that would have mainly gotten an eye roll. But the ghost writer claim really struck a huge nerve. Huge. As in Pretty Woman HUGE.

I think if I were a writer and spent years writing a book only to have someone be dismissive and insist that I'd used a ghostwriter I'd probably be livid too.

The whole book thing got me curious so I requested Carole's book from the library and picked it up today.

Dilbert: I would like to write a children's book someday. I'm not a writer and would certainly need someone to help. That said, it sounds like you're saying that someone like me, with many years of humorous anecdotes about young children under my belt from teaching kindergarten and having children, doesn't/shouldn't have a voice because I haven't studied nor been a journalist for 20 years. Many of the comments at TWOP are the same - that unless you've honed the craft and learned to write beautifully, or spent 5 years agonizing over a memoir - that a fledgling author doesn't deserve a chance.

When I discovered that you are an accomplished author of children's books, I told you I admired that. I believe I even mentioned that I had aspirations some day of trying my hand at writing. I almost feel like I owe you an apology now. I will say, that I genuinely never meant to dismiss or diminish your accomplishments by sharing my dream with you.

You've got me reviewing in my mind, the many times I've shared a funny classroom incident at a party or wherever and someone has said, "you should write a book" and I've responded, "that's my dream when Lil Rye goes away to college". I didn't mean to sound like a Dismissive-to-Real-Authors asshole.

Oh rye, please don't feel that way and please don't make me make you feel that way. My sincerest apologies to you that I have made you think/feel that.
I have helped dozens of people along their path to authorship over the past eight years. I am always happy to when the person is sincere and respectful, as I know you are. I once was that person with a dream too. What gets my goat are the people who brush it off as something anyone can do, and they literally say that right to an author. "Oh anyone can write a children's book! What does it take, a few words aimed at a five year old and cute drawings?!" This I have been told. To my face. At a book signing.
I have two science degrees and a teaching degree; I have no writing or English degree. I have an agile imagination and a gift for putting it into words. I encourage anyone who wants to write to do so, even if just for their own pleasure. Just be aware that to write something that others want to read, will pay for to read, is not something everyone can do. It takes a bit of the undefinable, but I guess we can call it talent.

It comes down to this: everyone regardless of what they do for a living deserves respect and the acknowledgement that what they do cannot be done by just anyone.
And here's a helpful tip for all if you ever go to a book signing: don't tell the author what to write in the inscription, other than your name if you want it personalized. Authors really, really hate to be told what to write.

Some people write like they try to impress on these forums and it cracks me up because inevitably they can't keep it up. Thesaurus dot com only goes so far. All synonyms don't always work. Now I make typos and use the wrong words a lot, but I don't purport to be a writer! I think over at twitop this whole ghost writer thing is bringing out the thesauruseseses.

I went over to that other site to read posts after Finestra's post above. There it was, the first one I read, THE perfect example! I laughed. Truly a prime example of using $10 words when a 5 cent word would do. I should have copied it and brought it over, but didn't want to cause anyone grief.

Lol Dilbert - It's obvious. Right? She/he's not punking people either. I noticed that poster last year on the BH thread when Brandi first went after Joyce or when her tampon string first appeared and that fancy, highfalutin talk first came out. It was striking because it was so "up here" in such a "down there" subject matter/forum!
