I have a pair of fingerless gloves too, they are very handy for keeping warm but still being able to use your fingers. I had no idea they were trendy though. I'm enjoying Carole on the show. If nothing else, she is an example of a woman that isn't completely insulting to watch. All of the petty crap these wives do and say just isn't a realistic example of what I know women to be. It's nice to finally see someone act like a grown up on a HW show. I don't mind her looks at all, and her clothes work well for her body type. Then again, I am no fashionista. She's petite and kind of casual, and while I kind of see the point about the pleated skirt and boots, I honestly thought she looked good in that. She's not attractive, but I'd rather see a real face and real body than yet another caps wearing, blindingly white bleached smile, inflated boobs and ass, and botoxed to a mask face, and a nose picked out of a catalog. I do think those are her own cheekbones. She doesn't look to me like she's trying to dress young, or even trying to hit the latest trends, just that she is comfortable in her own skin and doesn't really care to be "trendy." Oh and about the TV show, the book is almost done, I'm sure they've seen the bulk of it already. From what I understand though, and from my brief time in the whole Hollywood/TV/movie scene? Shows have been green-lighted on much less than a nearly complete book from a known author. Like, a scant paragraph of a pitch, for example: 35 yr old male widow who works in television, but inherited millions when his wife died, has 2 precocious kids hires an Irish nanny with magical powers, and lives next door to 4 stewardesses with a pet parrot who randomly shouts out embarrassing sayings. |

That's true weaver - no doubt about it. But I meant that she didn't just whip up something to sell since being on the show ala Luann's etiquette book/songs or Ramona's wine and Jill's knock-off spanx. She started the book long before the show - isn't it really just a compliation of her columns? |

I just finished Carole's book -- weeping through the last 1/3 -- a few hours ago. What some of the posts here have supposed about her fashion sense is supported throughout the book. She talks about having no idea how to apply makeup and about always wearing the wrong clothes. Her best friend was Carolyn Bessette Kennedy, from the time they met the first time John John was dating her, and Carolyn called her "Lamb" and often chastised her for what she was wearing, saying "I won't be seen with you until you throw away those Gap shoes" or giving her clothes from her own closet, telling her "you'll have to take it in, but it'll look better on you" ... but Carole mostly dressed to stay warm. She's very tiny -- naturally, based on the center of the book pix from her childhood -- and is always cold. I think the gloves could be to keep her hands warm, plus to give them a bit more support since she uses her hands to type in her career. I know I have a lot of trouble with my hands due to arthritis, but using the keyboard for a long time when I'm writing or doing Photoshop causes them to ache more and more as I get older. Carole and I are the same age, BTW. Sonja, too. Anyway, I'll write the rest of my review in the BravoTV books thread, but wanted to say that those are also her own teeth, though she might have had some issues with the front ones and gotten them capped, which would have made her look even more like a horse/chipmunk/rat. But after reading this very well written book, my impression of her (which was already good) is even more glowing. I think she took a right turn instead of a left and wound up on RH by accident. Lucky for us! |

Mine's still not here, but I'm really looking forward to reading it. I'm so glad Ramona wasn't on that trip. Sonja seems to bring out the interesting with Luann, I almost feel that if we could have some more private Luann and Sonja time, along with booze, we could find out more than just Luann fucking on a ping pong table. She's almost 6 feet tall, and those things are so flimsy, she must be very careful when she does the deed. I remember that measurement thing from years ago. As usual, Heather wasn't listening, only talking. It's not about how fertile you are, it's about APPEARING fertile to males, and that .7 ratio between hips and waist being the most universally attractive feature to men. |

Oh, yes, that ratio discussion was in Carole's book. She reveals that she is a .7 ratio, too. |

Mr. Ryebread wore fingerless gloves long before they became fashionable. He snipped the tips off some gloves one winter while stringing up the outdoor Christmas lights. I have a pair of gloves that have all the fingertips but have a special little patch on the thumb and index finger which somehow makes it possible to operate an I pod, dial a phone, etc. Here's a pair similar to mine. Great if you walk, run, hike outside when it's cold. http://www.rei.com/product/821182/manzella-powerstretch-touchtip-gloves |

I'm sorry guys, I am just not buying that her black leather motorcycle/driving gloves minus the finger tips are for any other reason then trying to be hip an cool. I don't buy they are for some writers injury, or for keeping her hands warm or for texting. Just.don't.buy.it. This is the same woman who wears bright orange beannies at the age of 50+ inside while also wearing short sleeve shirts, who wears short catholic girl skirts with thigh high boots. She jacked some poor football player for that fugly letterman's jacket. Lemme see what else? I think she was also wearing Chuck Taylors and/or saddle shoes during on of her "i'm so cool I'm going to sit down in the middle of the street and take a phone" scenes. Her fashion choices just scream trying too hard to be hip or cool so for me to say that those fugly gloves were for anything but trying to be trendy and hip. As someone upthread mentioned - her clothing choices are what teenagers are wearing these days. Moving on - I've beaten that horse to death. I thought about posting this on the 'In the News Thread' but since it's about this episode - I've been DVRing that crap fest of GMA in the Afternoon - Jill was on today. They showed the clip of Ramona bitching at learning annex and Jill said Ramona is delusional and she isn't a business woman and that she is enjoying seeing her squirm. Claims she has a 'source' that was there that night and that they were preparing for 500 people and at the last minute had to remove 'hundreds and hundreds' of chairs. Says Ramona should have been less worried about the table and more worried about passing out chocolate chip cookies on the street to get people into them into the lecture. I don't believe Jill. We've seen a few LA segments over the years and Ramona's attendance seemed normal. You are lucky to get 50-60 die hards. Anyways- Jill was on to comment on "reality bites" segment and Cameron Mathison was on. He's a frequent contributor on the morning show - they both got about 3 minutes to talk and then they cut to commercial break. Jill of course jumped all over his 3 minute spiel on the Bachelorette. |

ha ha andme. If you look hard enough there is a picture of her in a beanie on the website :) I am not a total hater - she looks great in 95% of those photos. But again with the trying too hard to be hip thing. |

Oh me either. She's better than most of the housewives combined, but it's so much fun to make fun of them. |

You've just nailed the one problem I have with Carole. The whole "I'm so cool I'm going to sit down in the middle of the street and take a phone" scene is on par, imo, with her putting her bare feet up on the dash board in RockStarBoyFriend's car. She's trying too hard to be casual and cool. That said, I like her. She probably was very cool and still can be but she needs to tweak her method. No one says you have to act or dress a certain way once you reach a certain age. However, if she doesn't evolve her style, when she's 60, she's just going to appear eccentric. When *IS* it time to retire your thigh high boots and catholic school girl skirts? Edited by ryebread, Jul 12 2012, 12:09 PM.

I think I'd actually snark less about the clothes and the "i'm so cool vibe" if she was 60 an eccentric. It's hard to explain. I think the fact that she thinks it's cute is what bugs me. Oh and the date she had with the younger guy - she sure as shit knew his age before going out with him - yet still did it to prove to us that she's still got it. And that belies her 'casual cool' vibe she so desperately wants to give off. Totally forgot about the bare feet up on the dash. Ditto with the flirting with the 20 something at the vintage store. |

You guys may be right, but honestly, some of us just don't care that much about spending a fortune on the latest trends, or having the right hair cut for "our age." She may be pretentious, but I think she's just comfortable in her clothes and doesn't really care that much. She knows they work for her body, doesn't really care if they work for fashion? Her house is the same way really, a perfect, nice little place for a writer who spends a lot of time alone at the typewriter. She could obviously afford more, but doesn't really give a shit about impressing people. It's comfy. I much prefer her "dated" look more than Ramona's perpetual somewhat trashy mother of the bride low cut sparkles. Or Luann's chunky jewelry. Or many other wives Malibu Barbie ensembles. As for hats? Who knows? I wear quite a few of them too, for one thing, my hair needs to be washed every single day, and if I throw a hat on I can pull off an extra day sometimes. Ditto the gloves, they may be an affectation, or she may have some issues from typing all the time, and/or simply prefer to keep them warm, but not like the fingers because they are clumsy. Icy said that in her book Carole mentions that Caroline was horrified by her clothing choices too. Maybe she just doesn't give a shit? She's what, 50? I kind of like that she's not a slave to trends, and I see "don't really care" far more than, "oooh, look at me trying to be a young hipster." Or maybe that IS that way she sees herself, and if so? Go on with your bad self, be your own person, and screw it. (I thought the skirt and boots and long jacket looked good though, so I must share her bad taste.) :D Edited by Mariah, Jul 11 2012, 11:47 PM.
