It's not her name from childhood. She never mispronounces Gorga, does she? They went on that trip to Italy, saw all the places where Juicy lived and met some of his family. I think it possibly arose from that trip, a discussion and an attempt to connect to his heritage. Possibly before the girls get too used to pronouncing their last name the inauthentic way. |

Sorry Icy, I'm not buying it. I think it came from her handlers thinking it would go well with her "off the boat Italian" schtick. Tree and Juicy are not known for their deep introspective thoughts. I'd be curious to see how Juicy's parents and brother pronounce the last name. |

But they pronounce their first names inauthentically. Ter-EE-sah, should be Ted-ee-SAH. Mill-AHN-ee-yah should be MEE-lahn-yah. |

I think the parents probably pronounce it the "Italian" way. I bet all of their relatives and Italian friends do. I guess I'm just used to this because when we get around the Greeks, they change the way our names are said. I had a super Greek bf once who said, "You know you pronounce your last name wrong." Americans will typically botch a name with any sort of pronounciation that isn't familiar to them so they probably just went with the Jew-dice. I think it's some of what Finestra said about being more authentic when trying to hawk a cookbook and also probably the Senior Juicy's saying something to them like "hey! If you're gonna parade our last name all over tv at least say it right." I looked up the words thing, it seems that it's a dialect thing, and common in the NJ NY CT area, but there are dialects in Italy and the dropping of the last syllable in some words is a dialect. http://www.nytimes.com/2004/09/20/nyregion/20italian.html?_r=0 I've never head some of these words said the other way. We all always said pro-shuuut and left the last syllable off. Truth be told, people saying Jai-ro makes me nuts. Even when my stepsons do it, I'm like, "you're half Greek, cut that out!" |

I think it is funny that when Teresa and Juicy speak in Italian, that he uses an Italian pronunciation (bastardized or not) of her name, yet when he speaks in English, he only says Tre.

You know regarding M and P. It's primarily in American Italian. It's not correct. They made me think I was saying in incorrectly. It always sounds like an episode out of the Soprano's and that's why others try to do the same thing. Here I found this regarding Italian dialect and how it became what it is like when people want to show off their Italian that is not correct in most regions of Italy. They say all their vowels whether you hear them or not. http://www.nytimes.com/2004/09/20/nyregion/20italian.html?_r=0 lol Velvet I posted the same thing. Missed your link. I need to read more carefully but mind is out there these days. Edited by cccharley, Oct 23 2012, 01:38 PM.

In my head I always pronounced their name the Italian way. I was shocked when I finally heard someone say "JEW-dice" The hell? If they decided to go back to the authentic pronunciation, good for them, whatever caused it. JEWdice sounds stupid. Agree though that the trip to Italy, and the cookbooks probably prompted them to get real, and the ease/American stuff at schools probably prompted the whole JEWdice thing to begin with. That whole fitting in and assimilation thing. This is reminding me of Jackie Kennedy. She was raised as Zhaqleen, and couldn't stand people calling her Jack-a-lynn. |

I can't even count the number of ways that this disgusts me. It's crap like this that keeps me from being a Tree hugger. I don't care what anyone thinks of Melissa or Teresa, none of Teresa's girls should even know what a stripper pole is at their ages, much less what one does on one or whether or not their aunt might have ever danced on one. Disgusting. |

There is another scene where Melissa dresses up like a hooker (I know it is hard to tell the difference with this crew) and "dances" and says to Joe G that she wanted to give Teresa a taste of her own medicine and he is pissed bc his parents see it? Not sure, but that is what it looked like. Really not interested in another season of whether or not Melissa was a DANCER. Kathy looks like she is sticking her nose into the drama. And does Big Al tell Caroline he is sick of her ball busting ways? Willy I think this whole crew talks in front of the kids about all of this shit. I'd bet a dollar that it was Milania that little devil who did it. I am sure she watches RHBH and has seen Brandi's stripper pole lessons! |
