I've had mothers call my office asking if we're hiring and say they're calling for their adult son or daughter. Um, even if we were we wouldn't be hiring anyone who has to have Mommy call to ask about job openings for them.

Wow. I have no words. I think I would just start laughing in the phone.

The dumb thing is that all they'd have to do is act like they were calling for themselves and if I said yes say "Oh great, I will send in my resume right away." Like I'd know that was their mother calling when the resume came in. So 2 negatives right there...have to have Mommy call and Mommy ain't the brightest.

LOL Willy.

We just went through this with my stepson, I was harassing him for weeks/months to get a job and finally almost literally kicked his ass out of bed to file applications, then made him go back the next day to follow up and ask if they reviewed his apps. Then, voila! He gets a job!!!!!! And he freaking loves it, and you know what, he got it himself and that really makes him feel proud. So so valuable.

I'm really glad to hear that, Velvet!

Yes, I always ask my nephew "what did the teacher say when you told her?" and if he says (and often he says) "I didn't tell her" then I say "You have to tell someone."

Season 1, epi 1 on now. So strange how much younger everyone looks. NJ has got to be the most stress-causing franchise because of all of the financial issues, even more than the merciless sun of the OC. Caroline was very different looking - that very short hair, the very big boobs. Memories.

I'm going to turn it on. I actually thought Tre was really cute back then. Look at her now with that bun pasted on her head

There was a freeze frame pic from a video on my local newspaper website and it had Joe walking along with Tre next to him, but the camera angle obscured her body and all you saw was Joe with a bun on his head! Cracked me up! He looked like a sumo wrestler.

Teresa was so pretty with little make-up- and it's fun seeing her kids little again. Funny, first season, Teresa says "Jew- DICE", no dee-chay. I'm having fun watching this.

We had a bunch of summer interns here. Most of them get their jobs thru our local government officials, they work on their campaigns, distributing fliers and making calls to voters. In return they get a summer job that looks good on the college app.

Got a call from one boy's mom... it seems he cannot possibly eat his lunch in the half hour allotted. He needs at least an hour to eat, digest and have a nice walk and rest before returning to his duties. She wanted to know how this could be arranged WITHOUT him being aware of her meddling, she didn't want to embarrass him. It was explained to her that unless he had a medical condition that required an exception be made, we couldn't accommodate her request.

I guess the good news is that the boy obviously was fine with the 30 minute lunch. It was also a good sign that Mommy knew it wouldn't be good for her for him to find out she'd called.

Too funny. My just turned 7 yo kid never has time to eat lunch - but I never would go down to the school. She says she get 10 minutes! That I understand but I still wouldn't intervene over something so nonsensical. It is a schoolwide problem but I'm not getting involved.

School lunch times have gotten progressively shorter over the years. I recall having a full hour in grammer school. 30/30 split between the actual cafeteria time and time spent outdoors in the playground. By the time I got to high school it was 25 minutes to eat and back to class. My niece is a junior in HS and she gets 18 minutes. She says sometimes she spends more time on the line to purchase lunch than she does eating, or eats her sandwich on the way to the next class.
