She truly has a life force that I would love to have. I would be decimated, and she not only isn't, she shows a mind-boggling degree of loyalty to her husband. Not that that's necessarily good, but there's another I guess latent thing in me that is in awe of people that take those vows really fucking seriously. So many people stop when good times stop.

Who here thinks Melissa would have stepped up to the challenge as well as Teresa has? IMO, poor JoeGo would be left mumbling in a corner smelling the one lone pair of panties she left on her way out.

LOL!

Btw, the twitter wars have started again. Apparently, Teresa wrote open letters to the rest of the ladies in the latest issue of InTouch, apologizing and wanting to mend fences. Jaq took her up on her offer and tweeted for Tre to call her, which she did. Then she tweeted that the convo apparently didn't go well. Also on twitter, a former fan of the hag sisters named MarcoSistersFan, who used tweet up a storm on their behalf and bash Tre, has apparently jumped ship and is now calling the Gorgas out for "being fake."

Mariah that's weird. I can see 4 weeks because dates of conception were harder to detect back then but 8 weeks seems scary. The placenta starts to deteriorate. I know some kids born with teeth also and babies tracking within a couple of weeks. Can't imagine pushing out a 13 pound baby though. OUCH
She's 6 feet tall, in absolutely terrific shape with great abs (Professional Opera Singer) and she has "baby hips."

She really didn't look as pregnant as my shorter friends when they were full term and looked like beach balls, she didn't have the feet swelling thing or any issues at all. Honestly, she didn't even look that big, I'd compare it to your average sized woman at about 7 1/2 months, she didn't really "poke out" because her torso was longer or something. She's also a runner, and she was still doing her runs, at a slower pace, and near the end just doing 2-3 mile walks each day.

As Icy said, I don't think they would allow it today, they would just induce or do a C-section because of liability issues. But yeah, I did think of Velvet here, but I know she knows that won't happen to her! ;)

The OB/GYN did talk to her about both options, and she went in once a week to be checked. I was young and not that terribly interested in the subject at the time, but remember her updating me, and of course the birth, baby's name is Carin. The MD detected a perfectly healthy baby and mom, and each time it was one of those "OK, let's give it one more week." The last time she went in before birth the MD did tell her he would induce her on the weekend if she didn't give birth before that. She went into labor the next day, and as I recall it was a relatively easy labor and "quick" birth, a few hours from water breaking to holding the baby, no drugs.

Here other two kids came right on time, we joke that Carin just wasn't ready for a while.

That won't happen to me because I've already decided I'm going into labor at 38 weeks. 1) because I'm ready to meet her and 2) I don't want a potentially big head to rip apart my girl parts!

I read the what to expect site by the week, and they say by 42 weeks, the decrease of oxygen begins, etc. I don't get how someone could go 11 months, essentially 48 weeks, and not have a severely brain damaged baby.

You go girl!

I dunno either. She is fine though, has a double degree, not brain damaged, beautiful (tall) blond. Also, as I said before, the sweetest girl ever.

Maybe, as someone said, they didn't have the tools to be as accurate about baby age back then? It's also certainly possible that I, she, or the MD had/have some of this wrong. :$ It was a long time ago, I'll ask her about it the next time we talk.

She was obviously "older" though when born, and it was really cool holding a newborn who could see things around the room and was so alert, could reach out and touch you, all of that. She was such a cool baby.

This is so out of my realm of comprehension...I think I've held a newborn once...lol. I don't frequent the baby threads so didn't know you were having a girl Velvet!...congrats again.

On the baby tip - I forget what thread we were talking about Jessica Simpson..did you all hear the new controversy. Folks are saying that she's already had the baby and is holding out for some big magazine offer. She was spotted a few days ago in a car with her foot up on the dash. Imagine as huge as she is, putting your foot up on the dash of the car. I can't even do that w/ my fat ass and I'm not prego!

Ugh can't find the picture, but it's on TMZ as a video link. The car is a big SUV - is it possible for a prego lady to get her foot up on the dashboard Britney Spears style?

I've reached the place in pregnancy that a foot up on a dash would mean unexpected bladder leakage. I did read that JS didn't get any offers for baby pics. I don't get how she's pregnant. I found out the last week of October and she was already well on her way. If I'm due in 10 weeks, she has to be any day now, or as you said, she had the baby already and doesn't look like it.

Mariah - they may have calculated wrong, but if you ask don't say "my housewives friends think you're brain damaged." LOL.

Thanks Shopper!!

LOL, yes, that would not be good.

I think swinging her leg up on the dash is not only possible with a huge belly, it might actually relieve some of the back pressure. Depends on whether the seat back was lowered and if she had some cushion or blanket behind the small of her back ... after all, women are made to put their feet up in stirrups to give birth, right?

Men reporters, thinking something totally female and doable is proof of some hidden situation! I think it's possible she lied about when she was due so they'd be watching her early and she'd get MORE PRESS.

You cracked me up with that first one!

2nd part, no I won't. ;) I'll probably find out I am wrong, not about the baby being over 9 months (because hey, I was there the day after and holding her for most of the first week, she was obviously not at "newborn" level with her motor or vision skills, or even size!) But wrong about how long, as I said, pregnancy was not really my interest, although I loved the actual babies and kids.

calling her now.

back

OK, here is some of what she said. With her first baby, who was also a bit late, the OB lied to her and asked her to come in for a check up. He didn't like that she carried without poking out enough in his mind. (As I said before she carried babies really well, never really poked out that much or did the beach ball look, I think it was her shape and size.) He lied to her and stuck his finger up her rupturing the membrane, and inducing labor that way. She felt horribly betrayed, got a different OB to deliver the baby. Drug free, pretty easy birth. So she was a bit hesitant about the whole inducing thing with Carin because of her earlier bad experience.

She had a great OB for her 2nd and 3rd kids. Carin was still in breech position at 9+ months. They did this thing called external-version or something, kind of like a deep massage to turn the baby. It actually worked, I seem to remember a couple of sessions before it did though. After the baby was finally turned, she went into labor within about a week, she walked for miles every day to help induce the labor. For Carin she did have her cervix numbed because Carin's head was huge and it was painful, but pretty fast/easy birth other than that. She was smaller than I remember 11 pounds 1 ounce. Today they would probably have just done a c-section. I seem to remember the whole thing being a bit controversial or new-agey or something about trying to turn a breech baby that way, but my friend really wanted to avoid a c-section (partially because she had a huge opera coming up, and that takes solid muscles.)

As far as the gestation period, back then they went mostly from menses dates and it was not nearly as accurate to guess a due date. She was quite overdue by their more primitive ways of estimating, mostly by fetus size, date of last period or whatever. My friend said she did show the skin issues of an overdue baby, (no idea) and her alertness/eye stuff and other things caused her doctor to say, "it's like you have a two month old newborn" which is where I probably got that. So, as for HOW overdue? They were mostly guessing from due date, baby size, skin symptoms, but primarily the motor and other skills Carin had at birth.

And now, back to Teresa kicking ass and taking names.

Here's what I've been reading each week, and the last week it's available for is Week 42. It talks about the skin stuff and why that happens.

Interesting reading that! She really was "Hi mommy!" She also had the long beautiful blond hair when born, still does. Maybe she was "late" because she was breech, since after that massage thing finally worked and turned her into head down, labor came on naturally and she was delivered within a week or so of finally being in the correct position.

My neighbor just had her baby and she was 4 or 5 days late, but 10 lbs. I might have mentioned that last week, so sorry for the repeat if I did. Anyway, the baby is so different looking than most newborns - probably because at 10 lbs they decided to do a c-section so her head wasn't crushed LOL.

I heard the massage thing can be hit or miss. it's good it worked for your friend.

Okay I've derailed long enough, I feel bad. I'm ready for more NJ gossip :)

My first was2 1/2 weeks early- he was 21 1/2 inches-6 pounds 1 oz- little blond angel. My second was 10 days late- 21 1/2 inches 8 pounds 7 ounces- c-section- still an angel- but looked like he ATE all of the other babies in the nursery- he had linebacker shoulders and basically a mustache- his first picture looks like a baby Tony Soprano! They grew up to look a lot alike- but it's so funny how they looked SO different at birth! I think the massage thing is a Leopold maneuver- and yes- it doesn't always work. I was only going to be allowed to go 2 weeks late with the second- then went into labor but needed a c-section because he was just too big. I hated the c-section- so much of a harder recovery- though some of my friends LOVED them. Still, all good memories :)

Just chiming in with my .02 worth...
My son will be turning 26 (on July 2, Velvet!) and when I went in for my first appointment, they gave me a due date of June 7. I thought that was a little early, but I was young, and they were the "experts". I am tall, too, and he loved to stretch out.I never had the "basketball" stomach that is supposed to predict a boy. Everyone was positive he was going to be a girl based on that ( other than my dad and me). June 7 came and went, and they began to revise the date. July 1 I went in for an appointment, and they decided to induce me the next morning. I think that the midwife stripped my membranes, because that night my water broke and I had a pretty easy labor (6 hours...which included 2 hours of pushing). These huge hips actually came in handy for something! My son was born with a full head of black hair, but when he was born, the midwife said, "No way is this baby two weeks overdue".. since he still had a fair amount of vernix.Plus, he was just barely 8 pounds (which isn't that big anymore). So, back in the day, they really weren't that accurate with due dates. And they didn't do ultrasounds unless there was a concern/question. (Unlike my nephew's trailer trash wife who has them, i swear every other week). However, Mariah, I can see your friend's situation happening, since if they had stayed with my original due date of June 7, I would have been almost a month overdue when he was born on July 2. Things have changed a lot in 25 years.

I was also late but knew my due date was accurate. I'm tiny and my kid was almost 8 pounds, full head of hair also and since I couldn't push her out I had that horrible emergency c section after all the labor. How I wish I had a scheduled c instead. I had weekly ultrasounds and that baby flipped sunny side the day I went in to get induced She wasn't mushed and looked older too. Funny I almost induced on my birthday which was 2 days later but decided to let her have her own birthday
