Best live tweet from the Golden Globes, hands down, is from someone named Ultragrrrl: I want a man to look at me the way George Clooney looks at Brad Pitt. |

I'm not a huge fan of Meryl Streep as an actress. I do enjoy her tremendously as a personality -- so totally comfortable with herself, completely lacking in pomp and circumstance. But what is up with her sense of style, or more accurately the lack thereof????? Mark my words, the Fashion Police will be all over Maryl Streep and her dress tomorrow night. There's a song called "Cowboy's Sweetheart." She looks like she ought to be singing it in that get-up. |

Forgot it was on until nearly the end. My mom was thrilled Meryl won -- I was hoping Rooney would win, because that role took BALLS. George seemed OVER IT when he accepted his award, having time to look at Brad, not mentioning Anjelica (ha). I missed Michelle Williams' win, read about it on Facebook. And I guess now I must see THE ARTIST. |

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo got very little attention. It got rave reviews. Maybe because it was so dark and it came out around Christmas that people got turned off. Some reviewers said Rooney Mara was closer to the book's character than the Swedish actress was. I felt a bit sorry for her, she seemed forlorn at the globes. Anyway, I saw the original three movies and don't think I need to see this version. |

Weaver, I saw the Swedish films and still enjoyed the American one tremendously. In the Swedish one, I felt removed. Perhaps because of the subtitles, not sure, since we read subtitles all the time so that's not new to me (closed captions, actually). But with the American one, I actually was moved emotionally -- which almost NEVER happens in movies. Oh, I cry when they cry, but with this movie, I actually was screaming inside my head "Stop! Stop it!" when a certain violent event was shown. Very well done. Rooney Mara was great. But so was the Swedish actress*. I wouldn't compare them, they both did phenomenal jobs. I read online they've already given the green light to making the next two films, too, though the director is not on board yet. But Daniel Craig and Rooney will be back, per contracts that locked them in from the start. Hurray! *Noomi Rapace? |

Somehow certain characters stay stuck in my mind, and I don't like to see other versions. Like Mildred Pierce, that is Joan Crawford, not Kate Winslet in my mind. I'm glad the film did well enough to make the next two though. Maybe Rooney will get more buzz for the Oscars. I don't really want to see Meryl's acceptance routine again, much as I love Meryl Streep. I watched the Swedish ones on my PC and somehow being so close to the screen made me less aware of having to read subtitles. |

I searched for the elusive SAG Awards show tonight. The red carpet pre-show was splattered all over the E network. But the show itself? Not on any of the major networks. Not on Fox. Not on E. What up??? |

It's possible some network will be airing those award shows, but not live tonight, VF. You could check via the SAG site itself, I think. |

I enjoyed The Grammy's tonight. I thought it was well put together. The only thing that disappointed me was so much emphasis on the passing of Whitney Houston. To met, Etta James contributed more to the world of music as did others who passed this year. Yes, Whitney has a beautiful voice but had a f'd up adult life. She didn't live up to her full potential. She could have done so much more if it weren't for the drugs and alcohol. I thought it was pretty funny and ironic that right after that hideous set by Nicki Minaj that Adele with her simplicity won record of the year. Oh and Lady GaGa looked pretty stupid in that outfit she had on. I wonder if she was embarrassed to be seen in that. She really needs a new stylist! lol |

Adele restores my faith in music. A musician with actual, real, pure talent is such a rare, rare thing these days. It's even more obvious when they come right after the monstrosity of Nicki Minaj. Jesus. That woman is.. beyond. And not in a good way. |

Oh. kay. If y'all are gonna start in on the Grammys, I have a terrible, awful confession. I really enjoyed Taylor Swift. Like, I watched it twice. WHEW! What a relief to have that out in the open!! |

OK who's watching the Oscars? Did anybody watch the big pre-show with all the fashions? I liked Stacy Keebler and Octavia Spencer. I WOULD have liked Gwyneth Paltrow's dress except Gwyneth Paltrow was wearing it. I despise her. lolol Watching the opening scenes with Billy Crystal right now. So nice to see him back. Nice to have a grown-up hosting, with pop culture references that are relevant to 40 and 50-somethings as opposed to the two fetuses who hosted last year. "But how do you really feel, VanderFabulous? lolol" |

I watched all the E! pre-show and saw the dresses. Many of them were fabulous. Nobody looks really lousy anymore. Then I watched the Billy Crystal opening; I love Billy and his old time schtick. So much better than that James Franco/Anne Hathaway thing they did last year. I think Michelle Williams wore my favorite dress, although I wish she'd do a little something different with her hair. Sasha Baron Cohen was just a jerk. Now I've got to rent "The Help" because I want to see Viola Davis' performance. I was rooting for her even though I had not seen the movie, because she was so good in that movie with Meryl Streep. And Meryl has won enough. Did anybody see the J'Adore commercial with Charize Theron with clips from the real Grace Kelly and the real Marilyn Monroe in it? Forgot how gorgeous Grace Kelly was. |

I always thought Grace Kelly was divine. My dad never liked her ( which is strange, since he was very old school traditional). I loved Sandra Bullock's dress. I thought it was gorgeous with the back. Because, let's face it, while she looks good, she's not a spring chicken anymore. So in my humble opinion it was nice to see someone covered up, but still showing a sexy back. And I can't stand Angelina. She had to show off that skinny leg, didn't she. It's funny,Mr. Disco commented he didn't like her "anymore".I never knew he liked her in the first place! He then revealed he liked her in her Lara Croft days. Guess I need to start bringing it a la Lara Croft! ;) |

We watched the whole day, it seems. Started with the E! channel and their stupid fashion expectations show. I mean, WE ARE STUPID to watch so much, LOL. I was very happy that Meryl won, even though I like Rooney Mara a lot and think she was great in GWTDT. Glenn Close ... gak, I hate her. If she'd won, I'd be pissed today. Viola would have been okay. But anyway, yeah! The guys ... has Brad ever won? I thought Billy's schtick was tired and old. A little comforting, though, and trustworthy that it wasn't going to be too mean-spirited. But some of it was just not good. And he looked .... like a plastic Ken doll version of himself. His skin was very unwrinkled and his hair was newly colored (would have been better to have a little gray, IMO) and too dark and the edge of it was too defined ... he's not a spring chicken and I didn't think he needed to act like one. Compare him to Johnny Carson and you can see what I mean. BTW: we were watching on HD and when Meryl was up presenting, I was SHOCKED at how smooth and unwrinkled her neck was ... then they had a side shot of her -- a profile -- and I realized she's got the proper neck, there's loose skin. So I'm wondering if they've improved HD or if the Oscar presentation was presented via some filter. Usually HD makes everyone's makeup really visible. Anyone else notice how her skin almost glowed? |
