Oh, I'm betting she's through it. Remember the pregnancy test on the yacht cruise? She was already missing periods then, and that was what? 2 years ago now?

Ramona really goes for the jugular, there's no slow escalation...she goes from 0-60. I wonder if she realizes through all her preaching to Avery that she perhaps hasn't been the best role model for her daughter. Ramona is always bemoaning her father, I'm betting Avery has seen some interesting examples of behavior from her mother.

I don't think I'll be able to take much of Ramona's drama next week in the woods. Jeez. Take it down a notch.

I just saw part of last night's new Million Dollar Listing New York and who shows up at a soiree but Sonja. She does like to camp it up. Luis of MDLNY said he adores her and she knows "everyone" in New York.

Is it wrong to wish for a mountain lion attack?

I don't think we've heard the story about Ramona's father in total. I wonder if her difficulties in being normal stem from that childhood trauma. She could be on the spectrum, too, but it could just be damage and her coping skills …. which SUCK.

Odd that the avg age of menopause is 51 but none of these HW's seem to experience it ever.

I started full blown menopause at 41 and am still having hot flashes that could power my house at 57. It hasn't been fun and until I think the most horrible part of it was insomnia. Even in my bitchiest, most sleep deprived state, I would never dream of acting the way Ramona does. She's a raging bitch who has no clue how the majority of the world lives. I chose not to go the HRT route but maybe Ramona is a woman who will kill someone if she doesn't.

I laugh every time Sonja says something about her uterus being so young and vital. Menopause happens to every woman and trying to deny it is futile (and makes you look really, really stupid)

Agree with you Shopper, she can take her hormones and whatever, but certain things are inevitable. Most of my friends and I started in late 40's and finished in a couple of years.

Mine is relatively easy- but I've been peri-menopausal for seven YEARS! That's the hard part- that I want to be finished already...

I had hot flashes for exactly six weeks. I woke up at night everything soaked through, the classic symptoms. I always thought people exaggerated that, I thought how could you sweat that much? At work I'd have one and my face would get very very red and my blouses would be all wet, always happened right before a meeting, awful. But as quickly as they started, they stopped, lucky me.

I'm so lucky I sleep through mine, and go right back to sleep evidently, I know I have them because in the morning the T-shirt I wore to bed is balled up on the floor, and I'm wearing a different t-shirt. The ones when I'm awake suck more, but are VERY rare.

I had one night like that, where the bed was soaked, too. Thankfully not again. I asked my doctor about HRT and he said they no longer recommend it. So I don't plan on taking anything. Is there something that argues against that plan? I'm woefully naive about the whole thing.

You sound like you are breezing through it Icy. I agree with your doctor. I took HRT for about a month until the studies came out that scared me silly and I stopped that minute.

Mine was pretty easy, but it's hard to tell for me, because right when it began I also had cancer, it was discovered, and then I had a fairly extensive surgery and recovery. So, which "symptoms" belonged to which issue? I only had two hot flashes, thought I had the flu because I was so very tired too, but soon after my cancer was discovered.

I had my last period in the hospital. Two days out of surgery and suddenly there was a lot of activity around my bed, doctors and nurses both because they found blood all over the place when they were changing sheets. They thought something had gone horribly wrong with the surgery, but no, just little mother nature showing up to embarrass me, in front of a couple of Doogie Hausers. I think the shock to my system of the surgery could have pushed me past "peri" and into "full" faster than usual.

Although my mother didn't even notice hers, and she and her doctor were both surprised that it only came up on routine visit questions. Some women are lucky.

Increased risks of breast cancer, heart disease, stroke, and blood clots were some of the problems associated with HRT. We're supposed to stop the hormone production as we age and it just didn't make sense to me to replace hormones my body was supposed to stop making. When I went to my old doctor desperate for something other than estrogen to help me through not sleeping, it was like she didn't hear a word I said. She handed me a prescription for a years worth of estrogen. I threw the prescription in the garbage can in the exam room and never saw her again. She was in her 30's and I've wondered over the years how she's coping with it. I hope she has militant hot flashes and raging insomnia.

There are tons of herbal things that work well for some people. I spent $$$$ on all sorts of supplements and herbal shit but none of it helped me. I wound up getting xanax from a friend to get some sleep.

I complete my "year of no periods" in July. It seemed like I was in peri-menopause for years, though! The heavy periods, long periods. Can't say I'm missing it, since I started when I was 11 and was almost 53 when I stopped. That's long enough, I think. ;)

Icy, I read about hot flashes and talked to my (female) doctor here about them. I started getting them in Oct. and they were pretty bad until about March. It appears that stress exacerbates them (in case Tamra is reading this, that means "makes them worse", honey ;) ) and I believe it, since our move started in October and it was about March when things calmed down. Some nights I was changing t-shirts 3 times a night. I get them now, but not as bad, just throwing off the blankets/sheets seems to take care of it. It's strange for me, because in the past I was always cold and snuggled up to Mr. Disco to get warm.
I will suffer through hot flashes instead of taking any hormones, no way. uh-huh. Just not worth the concern for me.

I just think there is something so wrong with the younger howives mocking menopause. It's not like something you can avoid and they'll be going through it soon enough. It's a natural part of a woman's life and I'm tired of women not supporting women.

I was a month away from completing my year, last year, when BAM! the mother of all periods. If you had been listening at the time I am sure you could have heard my scream! So the calendar restarted and I am now looking towards making it through June and I will officially be on the other side.

Due to fibroids, I was on the birth control pill forever and I think that took me through most of my perimenopause, therefore I lucked out symptom wise. Would have night sweats something fierce the week I was off the pill in the cycle, but when I stopped taking the pill the night sweats stopped. They started again this past winter, but when I changed to our spring weight blankets this last April I realized the night sweats hadn't been hormone caused, but down comforter caused. I was just too damn hot under the covers! I told my primary care person this and she looked at me like I was a total nut.
Since I turned 40 I have purposefully sought out primary care people who were women of my same age. I have had a fantastic series of nurse practitioners(who were also midwives) and their level of care, compassion and understanding has been outstanding. It has cost me out of pocket at times, since military insurance often wouldn't cover, but it has been worth every penny to be able to see a woman provider who is also going through this journey.
